Awakening: I Became a Legendary Spirit Summoner-Chapter 24 - : Celeste’s Mana Missiles, Empire Announcement
Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Celeste's Mana Missiles, Empire Announcement
Karl sat on the bench beside Celeste, his expression unreadable.
The [Frenzied Rabbit] that had been resting on his head suddenly leaped onto Celeste's lap, making itself comfortable.
Karl didn't even glance at it.
He had an EX-Rank profession, which put him at the top, but that didn't mean SSS-Rank professions were any less dangerous.
If someone stronger than the [Sovereign Wolf] existed, they could wipe out all of his summons, and then him.
Celeste tilted her head.
"What do you mean, how?"
"How did you clear the first floor so fast?" Karl asked, "Is there a secret way?"
Celeste had chosen Hell-Difficulty, just like him.
Anyone who wanted to enter [Starlight Academy] was forced to pick the hardest setting.
"I mean..." She scratched the back of her head, "I just used [Mana Missiles]."
"Huh."
"It ranked up to D-Rank, so it got an upgrade!"
Skills didn't just get stronger when they ranked up.
Sometimes, they gained completely new effects or perks.
Celeste smirked.
"I'll just show you."
She snapped her fingers, and a system panel appeared in front of Karl.
[Mana Missiles (D-Rank)]
[Effect: Spend 1 Mana to summon a small missile in the shape of an orb that explodes on impact; maximum of 10 missiles; no cooldown.]
Karl raised an eyebrow.
This was an overpowered skill.
Celeste had an SSS-Rank profession, meaning her mana regeneration was absurdly high.
Her mana pool also grew faster with each level as she gained [Mana] points.
Point distribution wasn't the same for everyone.
A mage could gain 10 mana per level but barely anything in other stats.
A warrior could gain a massive amount of Strength but little else.
Karl, on the other hand, got +2 in every attribute per level.
That made him balanced, but slightly below average in total stat gains.
Still, the real problem was Celeste.
With 10 missiles per 10 mana and her increasing reserves, she was essentially a rapid-fire turret.
She could wipe out entire hordes of monsters before they even got close.
"Every [Mana Missile] can one-shot a goblin," Celeste laughed, "So clearing the floor took less than 10 minutes.
"And I think the Goblin King just gave up after seeing me again."
"...Right."
It made sense.
But Karl hadn't expected her to be this broken.
Could she destroy his summons just as easily?
He shook his head.
No point in thinking about that.
Celeste stroked the [Frenzied Rabbit] resting on her lap.
"Let's just wait here. We'll get an announcement when it's time to return to our school."
The entrance exam wasn't held at school, but they would be teleported to it from there.
Every other school followed the same process.
Karl nodded.
"Alright. Let's wait."
They sat in silence for a bit, though Karl found himself chatting with Celeste more than usual.
It wasn't that he disliked talking or showing emotion, he just never needed to.
At first, when he regained his memories of Earth and realized he had transmigrated, he had been excited.
Who wouldn't be?
A new world, a new life, and incredible power.
But something always felt off.
How had he even transmigrated in the first place?
And what was the source of all this?
No one knew.
And he had no way of finding out.
Still, sitting here, talking with Celeste, he felt at ease.
Time passed.
More and more people finished the first floor, their voices filling the plaza.
"Let's go! Level 15! I have a shot!"
"Damn, I need another dungeon."
"I'm about to level up!"
"Level 16, losers! I'm the king!"
Karl barely reacted to the chatter.
There were thousands of people in this world, all trying to enter a decent academy.
Even those with A-Rank and S-Rank professions weren't guaranteed a spot at [Starlight Academy].
Only the best made it in.
The sun dipped below the horizon.
The moon rose.
Then—
Ding!
[Announcement to all students throughout the Empire!]
[Return to your respective high schools.]
[There, the principals will inform you about your next steps.]
[Good luck!]
The message echoed through the plaza.
Even those still inside the tower would hear it.
Celeste stretched, "Alright, time to go."
The [Frenzied Rabbit] instinctively hopped onto her head, snuggling into her white hair.
Karl stood up, "Yeah."
They left the plaza along with everyone else.
Waiting for them outside was a sleek, black luxury car.
Celeste gestured toward it.
"That's my driver. Want a ride? It'll be faster."
Karl considered it.
He had everything in his inventory already.
No reason to refuse.
"Sure."
They got into the car.
The driver, a middle-aged man with a professional air, chuckled.
"The young lady finally found someone? How surprising."
Celeste ignored him.
"Take us to [Seabright Highschool]."
"Understood."
The car smoothly pulled away from the curb, gliding through the streets.
It took about 20 minutes to reach the school.
Because of traffic, they stopped a few streets away.
And instead of waiting, Celeste and Karl got out and walked the rest of the way.
This was it.
One of the most important nights of their lives as new awakeners.
At the entrance of [Seabright Highschool], Principal Victor stood waiting.
His sharp eyes scanned the returning students.
[Level 13.]
[Level 12.]
[Level 14.]
Not bad.
But not impressive either.
If they wanted to get into [Starlight Academy], they'd need to do better.
Only a handful of students from each school ever made it into that prestigious academy.
When it happened, the principals would brag endlessly about it.
A single student making it in was enough to boost a school's reputation for years.
Especially knowing all other empires were holding an examination of their own as well.
Victor greeted each student as they entered, nodding at their levels.
But something was off.
Where are Karl and Celeste?
Everyone knew the [Novice Trial] and [First Floor] were dangerous.
Death was common.
But with how strong those two were, it was strange they hadn't returned yet.
Did something happen?

But just as he was about to worry, he saw them.
Two figures walking toward the school.
Victor's eyes widened.
Then his lips curled into a huge grin.
[Celeste Frost, Level 16.]
[Karl Bloodborne, Level 16.]
He laughed.
"There they are. I knew they could do it."
