Awakening of the Scheming Wife-Chapter 134: Helena flirted? Yes!
Vernon looked at Helena’s expression. He gave a slight nod at her. Then he spoke into the phone, "I don’t know either. I am on my way to the airport right now. I have to catch up with my flight. So, I can’t ask them either. Do you know what exactly happened?"
"To the airport? When your sister-in-law is kidnapped? Where are you going? How could you leave the city when your family is in such a situation?" Ethan’s ’concerned’ voice suddenly turned into one of an agitated one.
Vernon smirked. (So easy to get this man to lose his composure? I thought he would be a harder nut to crack.)
He smiled and replied slowly as if he did not care about his sister-in-law’s kidnapping at all, "Oh? I am going on my honeymoon. Don’t you know that I am recently married? Our trip is already postponed for our anniversary party. We can’t postpone it anymore, right?"
"What? Honeymoon?" Ethan raised his voice and screamed.
Vernon moved his phone away and slowly dug his ear using his pinkie. Helena stepped away as well and only continued to frown.
This man’s reaction was getting weirder and weirder. She couldn’t understand what he was trying to say or do at all.
"Why are you shouting like that?" Vernon asked in a draggy voice. "It’s just a honeymoon. It is common for all newlywed couples, right?"
"Huh? Yeah. You are right. It is just a honeymoon. It is common." Ethan spoke in a daze as if trying to understand what was happening after coming out of a huge shock.
"Yeah." Vernon nodded casually.
"I mean... That wasn’t what I meant," Ethan’s ’smile’ returned as he tried to speak calmly once again.
"Oh? What did you mean?" Vernon asked.
"With what was happening in your family, if you went on your honeymoon, wouldn’t everyone say something bad about Helena as a new daughter–in-law? That was why I was shocked that you are going now. That’s all," Ethan justified his shocked reaction.
"Oh, I see. I understand. Neither Helena nor I know anything about any kidnapping. That was why we planned for this trip. Now that you told me, I will call my brother and ask him about what happened." Vernon said slowly.
"Okay. That’s good." Ethan sounded happy at the thought that Vernon would first make the call before boarding the flight for his honeymoon. Once he finds that his dear sister-in-law was kidnapped, he would obviously cancel the trip.
Helena and Vernon immediately understood his thoughts through his voice.
"Yeah. I will call him. But can you tell me more about what you know about this matter? You know, since my brother already hid things from me, I don’t know how much he will reveal it to me even if I call him. You understand what I am saying, right?" Vernon threw a bait at the man.
Helena slowly raised her hand and showed her husband a thumbs-up.
[I never knew he had the talent to throw a bait. Impressive.]
Vernon smiled at her and even straightened his back, looking like a proud peacock.
"Yes, yes, I understand. Your brother loves you so much. So, obviously, he wants to hide these matters from you. But you are a good brother. So, you should try to help your brother as well. That’s what we should do," Ethan smiled and said energetically.
"Yes, yes. You are right. I should be a good brother to a great brother like mine. So, whatever you know, please tell me." Vernon responded with equal energy and asked again, throwing not just a bait but an entire net this time.
"Umm..." Ethan pretended to hesitate to speak.
"Please, Ethan. My good friend. My family had hidden the matter from me already. You, my friend, should tell me everything, right?" Vernon said.
Listening to his pleading voice, Ethan felt happy and started to speak, "I will tell you whatever I know, okay? The thing is, I heard that the Seventh Prince was the one who kidnapped your sister-in-law. Also..."
He hesitated to speak once again.
"What is it? Tell me everything, my good brother," Vernon nudged and played along with his stupid game.
"Actually, I don’t know how I should tell you this. But as your good friend, I don’t want you to be kept in the dark. This matter... Actually, if I had not seen everything with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have even believed it." Ethan said with ’hesitation’.
Vernon raised an eyebrow. He knows what he wants to say. He had heard these words in his previous life as well.
He looked at Helena and gestured for her to listen to his next words carefully.
Helena looked at him in confusion, but came a little closer to the phone anyway to listen carefully.
"What is it? Just tell me whatever it is that you saw." Vernon said.
"Hmm. Actually, I saw... I mean, at the Jeffery’s anniversary party, I saw... I saw Helena..." Ethan started, but looked like he couldn’t bring himself to speak at all.
Helena frowned. She pointed her finger at herself and mouthed to Vernon, ’Me?’
Vernon placed his finger on his lips and shushed her. He then pointed it at his phone, gesturing to calmly continue listening to whatever he had to say.
"What happened to Helena? What did you see?" Vernon probed once again, going along.
"I saw Helena flirting with the Seventh prince. But that’s not all..." Ethan said.
Vernon looked at Helena and gave her an amused smile.
Helena blinked her eyes. She then froze. Actually, she really couldn’t say that she didn’t flirt with the Seventh Prince.
But from where did Ethan see that?
She flirted, yes. But that was to get rid of the Seventh Prince’s advances. After knowing his personality, she was sure that the more one tries to stay away from him, the more he would be interested in them.
In the long run, it really is better to flirt for a couple of seconds so that she wouldn’t have to deal with his mad perverseness.
After hearing about what almost happened to Sister Jemma and what had happened to her sister, she was even more thankful for ’flirting’ with that psychotic prince.
Vernon felt amused by listening to her thoughts. In fact, she really was right about that.
But Helena’s thoughts did not stop there.
[No matter what, I flirted with that creep. Would Vernon blame me for that? Damn it. Everything became a mess for no reason. Even though my intentions were pure, it looks like my actions weren’t. What should I do now? My reputation! My image! Everything is at stake for a small action now?]
Vernon sighed. He understood Helena’s concerns.
He raised his hand and placed it on her head. She looked back at him. He calmly smiled and gave a nod, saying everything is fine and she doesn’t have to worry too much about anything.
"Flirted? Helena?" Vernon asked in fake shock. "And there is more? What is it?"
He wrapped his arm around Helena’s shoulder to both comfort her and also let her get closer to the phone to hear Ethan’s next words.
"Yes. I am sorry, but that wasn’t all. I heard her... I heard her talking about Sister Jemma with him. She was clearly instigating him against her. I did not hear their complete conversation clearly, but from whatever I heard, it was the truth. At first, I was shocked that she could talk such things about Sister Jemma like that. I never knew she was so jealous of Sister Jemma before I heard those words with my own ears. I know it is hard to trust my words right now. If someone else said these words to me, I wouldn’t have trusted that person either. But I heard those words clearly, and I don’t want to keep you in the dark anymore. When I heard about Sister Jemma’s kidnapping, I immediately understood that Helena might be involved in this matter. So, please be careful and use this information to find Sister Jemma." Ethan said too much without giving Vernon a chance to interrupt.
Vernon did not want to interrupt either. He wanted to hear everything that Ethan wanted to say as well.
Helena’s face turned red in anger. [What nonsense is he talking about? I am jealous of Sister Jemma? About what? Also, I am involved in her kidnapping? I talked about her with that creepy Prince? When did that happen? Why don’t I remember any of such bull crap?]
Vernon could understand her anger. She even swore in her thoughts, and he understood how angry she really was.
She opened her lips to speak, but Vernon stretched his arm further from his hug and closed her mouth. She looked at him, and he shook his head.
He removed his hand from her mouth and tightly squeezed her shoulders. Helena sighed and gave a slight nod, not saying anything, standing there calmly while controlling her anger.
