Baby System: I'm the Beast World's Only Hope!-Chapter 242: Episode 240: Another Boar for Fun?
Roxy stood up. Her legs wobbled, unused to the land, but she locked her knees and stood tall. The wind caught her silk dress, whipping it around her like a flag of victory.
She took the first step only to realize that her dress was ruined.
Roxy didn’t care. She hitched the priceless fabric up to her knees, tied a knot in the excess material to keep it from tripping her, and kept marching.
"fifteen kilometers," she muttered to the rhythm of her bare feet hitting the earth. "That’s just... what? Ten miles? I can do ten miles. I walked more than that before, even ran more than that when I arrived in the beastworld."
She started humming. The tune was off-key, breathless, and punctuated by the occasional grunt of effort as she climbed a small dune, but it kept the silence at bay.
"I’m coming home... tell the world I’m coming home..."
Her face would bloom with joy once in a while when she remembered she was going back to her favorite hubby, and her cute wolf, and Syris her twin dick, Torian the trouble maker, and Ren the one who shared her soul.
She was going to squeeze all of them until they couldn’t breathe.
And maybe we can all fuck together!
Roxy was grateful for one thing, if this was earth it would be impossible to have sex a few days after giving birth, but she is Roxy, the one blessed with a greedy system that always wants more children.
[And a fiction world, emphasis on that. Don’t blame it all on me.]
Roxy rolled her eyes.
You should be glad I am in a good mode right now.
[Don’t you miss Caspian?]
...
Let’s not bring that up for now, he will be fine, I am sure.
For now, Roxy wanted to get home to her cute babies.
"I’m going to hug them so hard they’ll need a healer," Roxy promised the empty forest. "I’m going to be a menace. A clinging, suffocating menace."
Now that she thought about it, she hoped her baby boy could grow up quick so they could reunite, and maybe she could love Caspian comfortably.
[Do not panic. General Kaia has 99 Strength. She can burp the heir with extreme efficiency.]
"That’s what I’m afraid of," Roxy muttered. "She might pat him through a wall."
She stopped walking, leaning against a birch tree to catch her breath. The air here was sweet, filled with pollen and sun-warmed resin, something she had missed and something her soul craved for.
Is there... is there any way? I can get to him before he grows up?
[Possible.]
Roxy gasped. "Possible?"
[The ’Mirror of Tides’ artifact allows for one-way viewing. It is a Legendary Item located in the Dragon Ruins to the North. If obtained, you may view the Heir once per lunar cycle.]
"The Dragon Ruins," Roxy repeated, memorizing the location. "North. Okay. New goal. Find Zarek, hug Zarek, make Zarek fly me to the North."
[Global Event Detected.]
The blue screen turned a flashing, ominous red.
[WARNING: The Beast World is entering a ’Calamity Cycle’.]
[Mission: Survive the Plaque. Protect the Iron-Wood Pack. Find the Cure.]
That didn’t seem so hard to do.
So what does this plaque mean? Grains or sickness? Which one is it?
[Information cannot be disclosed yet.]
What do you fucking mean by information cannot be disclosed? How do I fix something if I don’t even know what it is?
[That’s your issue, do something about it.]
Roxy gritted her teeth, the system was becoming insufferabel the more she venture deeper into obeying all it’s missions, and it was not like she had a choice, every mission had a risky punishment.
She decided to ignore the system.
She started walking again, faster this time. That is until a branch snapped loudly and Roxy froze, familiar to the feeling of being cornered by a predator.
She was standing in a small clearing, surrounded by dense undergrowth. The sound had come from directly ahead of her, right on the path she needed to take.
A low, guttural snort echoed from the bushes.
Snort-huff.
Roxy’s eyes narrowed. She knew that sound. She had heard that sound on her very first day in this world. It was the sound of her nightmares before the dragons and the politics took over.
The bushes parted.
A massive, hairy shape stepped out.
It was a Wild Boar. But not just any boar. It was a monstrosity. Its tusks were the size of scimitars, yellow and jagged. Its eyes were small, red, and burning with a mindless aggression. Its coarse fur was matted with mud and dried blood.
What did I expect? They were always lurking around as if they were the grim reaper always waiting for your soul.
But this time, they were out for my flesh, and there was no way I am going to give it to them!
It pawed the ground, lowering its head.
It looked exactly like the one that had chased her into Zarek’s cave. The one that had nearly gored her before she even knew what a Beastman was.
But She was no longer the Roxy from Chapter 1.
This was Roxy from Chapter 238.
This was Queen Roxy of the Beastworld. Why should she be afraid of a mere pig? When she knew perfectly that she could finish off the pig with her bare hands.
She had little patience, and she was looking at grilled pork right in front of her, she was getting greedy to kill her and the boar didn’t sense this, he just wanted to fight and kill Roxy not knowing that this was the worst mistake he could ever make.
She stood there in her ruined, priceless gown, barefoot on the dirt.
She didn’t run. She didn’t scream. She didn’t look for a cave to hide in.
She looked at the boar.
The System window popped up next to the beast.
[Wild Boar (Common Mob). Level: 3.]
[Threat Level: Low.]
Roxy felt a bubble of laughter rise in her chest. It was absurd. It was poetic. The boar squealed, sensing prey. It tensed its massive hind legs, muscles bunching for the charge.
Roxy calmly reached into her inventory.
She didn’t pull out a sword. She didn’t pull out a spear.
She pulled out the Pearl-Handled Bone Dagger that Kaia had given her for "trimming seaweed." In the ocean, it was a utility tool. On land, in the hands of a woman who had spent months watching generals spar, it was a razor-sharp fang.
She flipped the dagger in her hand, the movement smooth and practiced.
She planted her feet, adopting the defensive stance Kaia had drilled into her during the long, boring afternoons in the palace.
The boar snorted again, confused by the lack of fear-scent. It scraped the earth, challenging her.
Roxy scoffed, a cold, sharp sound that cut through the forest air.
She looked the beast dead in the eye, a cruel, satisfied smirk curling her lips.
"Do you have no shame?" Roxy asked, her voice dripping with the arrogance of a Queen. "Showing up in front of me, when you know you are going to die?"
