Back to 1984: Let's Work Hard Together to Raise The Kids!-Chapter 289: Regret Won’t Help
Lin Qin and Lin Ying eagerly leaned in to take a look.
Lin Ying couldn’t help but click her tongue at all the jewelry, "How much is this going to cost?"
Chen Xinyue pursed her lips and whispered, "It’s going to be a few hundred million."
"How much?" Lin Ying’s voice suddenly went up a few octaves, clearly shocked.
Lin Qin quickly grabbed her, "Sis, calm down! After all, Jinlin is the CEO of a multinational corporation; he does have this capability."
Lin Ying’s mind was spinning; she never dared to imagine that marrying a wife would cost so much.
In the following days, Xiao Jinlin was either taking the Chen family to see the new house in the villa or taking them shopping.
Lin Ying, who had never left An City in her life, finally saw the world and kept saying she could brag to the neighbors when she got back.
To give her more bragging rights, Chen Xinyue took them around all the major sights of the capital, not missing out on any variety of snacks.
They played right up until the day before the wedding.
He Xue even tagged along for two days. She didn’t hide her schedule, and through He Xue, Mu Qinglian learned all about the Chen family’s itinerary during this time. Knowing He Xue spent two days with the Chen family without greeting her made her chest feel stuffed with a wad of cotton, uncomfortable.
Xiao Jincheng moved to the apartment allocated by his work in a fit of anger on February 1st.
Guo Lingyue hadn’t entirely recovered from her leg injury, and with a sick and demanding daughter at home to care for, she hadn’t moved out yet.
Mu Qinglian thought about how her conflict with her youngest son was mainly because of Guo Lingyue, but she couldn’t complain to her, so she waited for Xiao Bai to get off work and nagged him.
"What do you think my sister-in-law means? Does she really plan to attend the wedding in our place tomorrow?"
Mu Qinglian bit her lip unwillingly, her gaze falling on the room where she had prepared her dress and jewelry in advance.
Xiao Bai, feeling weary, rubbed his brow, "You should be asking what Mom and Dad mean, not what my sister-in-law means. Do you really think the second brother and his wife can control Jinlin’s wedding?"
Mu Qinglian instantly fell silent, her eyes gradually filling with tears, "Xiao Bai, I carried him for ten months and gave birth to him through hard work. I’ve long regretted it, why can’t he understand me?"
Xiao Bai sighed silently, not wanting to say much more, "As long as Mom and Dad don’t say anything, we’ll just stay home. Has Yuanyuan been any better these past few days?"
Thinking of his granddaughter, who was like a fragile porcelain doll, Xiao Bai felt even more stressed but couldn’t just leave her be.
Mu Qinglian looked vacant, "She’s been okay today, since I got back from work she’s been fine, hasn’t cried much. That doctor seems to be somewhat capable; after finishing the first course of medicine, we’ll take her back for a follow-up."
Xiao Bai finally felt a bit relieved.
The couple waited and waited, and by midnight they still hadn’t received a call from the old house, so they had to go to bed, unable to hold on any longer.
Meanwhile, Guo Lingyue wasn’t sleeping either; she was waiting for news, waiting for the old house to call her parents-in-law to attend the wedding tomorrow, hoping for a chance to meet Old Madam Xiao and Old Master Xiao and make a good impression.
But she waited and waited, and nothing came, everything was calm and quiet.
So that whole night, Guo Lingyue lay awake in anxious unrest.
The next morning at breakfast, Mu Qinglian noticed Guo Lingyue’s particularly bad face and frowned, asking a question.
Guo Lingyue quickly covered it with a smile, and casually asked, "Mom, are you and Dad really not going to Uncle’s wedding today?"
Before, she had been so against having her parents-in-law show up, and now she wanted them to attend as much as possible.
Mu Qinglian gave a blank nod without saying more.
With Xiao Jincheng not around, Guo Lingyue lost her confidence and didn’t dare to test Mu Qinglian, so she had to hold back the words that came to her mouth.
After breakfast, Mu Qinglian went to work with Xiao Bai, without any surprises.
Meanwhile, at the hotel, a grand and majestic wedding of the century was unfolding.
The sun had just cast its rays on the lawn, and the various roses flown in from Dian Nan adorned this bleak early spring like a dream.
Staff buzzed about in an orderly fashion, with photographers and MCs ready to go.
Almost all of SY’s executives were present, with the entire secretarial and assistant departments turning out.
Lin Fei looked at the dreamlike and luxurious wedding site, gasping with astonishment, "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god... I’ve lived half my life and it’s my first time seeing such a grand wedding, those TV dramas are nothing compared to this, our CEO really has what it takes."
Cao Hui nodded in agreement, proudly puffing his chest, "I heard these roses were airlifted by Assistant Tang from Dian Nan, cut just at dawn, each one outrageously beautiful and exquisite."
The two of them strolled along, nodding as if they were touring a garden.
Elsewhere, Zhao Jia was closely following Tang Ming, staying very near, clearly indicating something was up.
She wore the dress Tang Ming had specially prepared for her, feeling a bit uneasy, "Tang Ming, weren’t you saying we’d go public after getting the marriage certificate? Why suddenly have me dress like this and come over? Now everyone knows..."
She and Tang Ming had been in a secret relationship for a long time, and she thought it’d still be a while before they went public, not expecting such a big "surprise" from Tang Ming.
Tang Ming openly held her hand, "I didn’t dare say anything before because of the CEO; the CEO didn’t have a partner, so it wouldn’t be appropriate for me as the assistant to reveal my relationship first. Now that the CEO is getting married, it’s perfectly normal for me to have a girlfriend!"
Zhao Jia was suddenly enlightened, pulling Tang Ming aside to whisper, "We’ve saved up enough, we can look at houses by the end of the year."
Tang Ming nodded, "That’s what I think too. Previously, when I helped the CEO renovate the quadrangle, I noticed that houses around there can be expensive or cheap, a smaller quadrangle is affordable for us, but an apartment will be pricier. We can buy whatever you like."
Zhao Jia’s cheeks blushed red, and as she looked up, she saw a group of handsome men and beautiful women walking towards them.
She immediately covered her mouth excitedly, "Tang Ming, is that the trending star Xue Lingxue?"
Xue Lingxue rose to fame rapidly with that New Year’s film; though not a massive hit, anyone who’d seen the film would surely know her.
Tang Ming was equally surprised and stepped forward to entertain them with Zhao Jia, "Excuse me, are you here as guests for the wedding?"
Although he asked that, doubts crept up in Tang Ming’s mind—when did the boss invite celebrities, and actors at that? Were they supposed to perform? Why wasn’t there any advance notice? Where was the stage?
The more he thought about it, the more anxious he became, though he showed no sign of it on the surface.
Qu Zhiyang, standing beside Xue Lingxue, stepped forward and handed over an invitation.
Tang Ming opened it and saw it was indeed issued by their own boss.
Zhao Jia automatically stepped forward to guide them while discreetly eyeing Xue Lingxue, suppressing her urge to ask for an autograph.
Once Xue Lingxue and her group were seated in the lounge area, she immediately shared a snapped photo of Xue Lingxue in the company chat, "Comrades, look who’s come to the boss’s wedding!"
"Isn’t this that newly famous female star? Invited by the boss?"
