Back to 1984: Let's Work Hard Together to Raise The Kids!-Chapter 304: Going Into Labor
Zhu Fugen gave him a stern warning, glaring, "It’s none of your business what’s going on with adults, remember that. Don’t go running around shouting you’re a kid, or else we’ll all be out of a job together!"
Zhu Laigui kept his mouth shut.
Lin Yi waited until the family had left before he strolled out of the house, locked the door, and left.
Once back, he immediately started complaining to Lin Qin and Chen Wenjun.
"I’ve never seen such shameless people, three daughters! They gave away all three! They kept this one around, with such long hair dyed in all sorts of colors, neither male nor female, doesn’t stand properly, doesn’t sit properly, no respect in front of elders, and particularly snobbish.
As soon as they came in, they looked down on my housing. Luckily, I didn’t bring them home, or they’d never leave once they saw our villa."
Both Lin Qin and Chen Wenjun quickly gave Lin Yi a thumbs up, "Dad! You’re so farsighted."
Lin Yi smugly folded his arms, "Of course! I’m telling you, now there are no boats operating on Nanxi, only our family has a tin boat that can go back and forth. Even if they wanted to come over, they wouldn’t have a way unless we’re willing to bring them. Remember, next time you see them, avoid them as far as possible, such annoying people!"
Lin Qin glanced at Chen Xinyue, who was watching the fun on the side, found an excuse to send her away, and then quietly asked, "Dad, do you think Zhu Fugen will look for those daughters they gave away?"
Lin Yi shook his head without thinking, "I don’t know about the future, but for now, they have no such intentions. I forgot to ask about their eldest daughter’s situation just now, oh well! Anyway, it’s been so long, everyone should just keep it to themselves and not speak about it."
Lin Qin and Chen Wenjun nodded in agreement, no longer mentioning the troubling Zhu Fugen family.
Meanwhile, with the help of friends, Zhu Fugen’s family of three finally got a job at a construction site.
Although Zhu Laigui claimed to be 18 to outsiders, the foreman was still skeptical. It was only after everyone signed a guarantee agreement that he was allowed to carry bricks on the site.
Days passed by, and during the seven-day National Day holiday, Xu Xinyi came back for a visit.
Lin Yi saw that she was fine in every aspect, her smile as bright as ever, and was completely relieved. She stayed in the city for two days before Chen Wenjun took her back to Pingxi Town.
Seeing them, Lin Ying and her husband were obviously very excited, bustling about buying food and preparing a meal.
Chen Wenjun naturally went to chat with Xu Dahai.
Lin Ying pulled her daughter into a room to inquire about her school life, as well as Tang Jing and Xu Jian’s matters.
"Has your brother been in touch with Tang Jing afterwards?"
Xu Xinyi was shocked, "Mom! Why are you asking me instead of my brother? How could I possibly know?"
Lin Ying let out a hopeful hum, "Your brother is so tight-lipped, how could he speak the truth to me? Asking him is less reliable than asking you. Just tell me, how does Tang Jing treat you at school?"
"She’s pretty nice!" Xu Xinyi replied casually.
Lin Ying’s eyes lit up, pressing further, "In what way is she nice?"
Xu Xinyi thought for a moment and said, "For instance, Sister Tang Jing brings me a piece of cake every Saturday, informs me of any good things at school in advance so I can prepare, and sometimes on weekends she asks if I want to go out with her. The school has a travel group for nearby tours, usually a day trip, though some last for a night, which can be more expensive.
I went twice, and it was Sister Tang Jing who paid for me. Of course, I also gave her gifts, Mom, I wasn’t taking advantage of her."
Lin Ying affectionately patted her daughter’s head, smiling broadly, "Good, good! My daughter is the best! It’s rare that Tang Jing invites you out. Next time, mention it to me in advance, and I’ll reimburse you!"
"Really?" Xu Xinyi’s eyes brightened.
Lin Ying laughed, "Is there any doubt? Is the allowance enough?"
They didn’t want their daughter to develop a habit of spending money extravagantly, so they didn’t give much allowance. Usually, it’s six thousand per semester, given in advance, guiding Xu Xinyi to arrange it herself and develop financial management skills.
Xu Xinyi quickly nodded, "Plenty, plenty. Besides what you give me, my brothers also call from time to time to ask if my allowance is enough. If not, they say they’ll send me money, but I always tell them it’s enough."
In reality, she was quite frugal, living in the same way as her dorm mates who generally spent similarly, without doing anything special. Because of this, she was quickly accepted by them.
Now, her dorm friends often joked that she didn’t behave like a rich girl at all, not looking the part when she went out.
Knowing the nature of her two sons, Lin Ying was even more at ease.
She thought for a moment and gave Xu Xinyi some advice on how to help Xu Jian.
These stories were shared by Xu Xinyi with Chen Xinyue during their later chats.
By then, it was already the lunar November, with the capital already blanketed in snow, chillingly cold, while in An City the coldest was only a little over ten degrees, with daytime temperatures above twenty, a time both warm and comfortable.
Chen Xinyue’s due date was approaching, so during this time, Lin Yi didn’t dare go anywhere, constantly watching over Nanyu.
Lin Qin and Chen Wenjun were the same, only going out when absolutely necessary.
The three adults were extremely nervous, yet the baby seemed unperturbed, showing no signs of wanting to come out.
After thinking it over, Lin Qin gritted her teeth and slapped her thigh, "We can’t go on like this. I think we should tidy up the house on Zhongshan Road and let Yaya move in. It’s closer to the hospital, and if anything happens, we can get her there right away, or call an ambulance. We can’t do that here with the river in the way, and we’re not strong enough to carry her!"
Chen Wenjun immediately contacted a cleaner for the house on Zhongshan Road.
It’s cold now, so no need to install any appliances. Just tidy up a bit and switch to new bedding and it’ll be ready to live in.
Under her parents’ arrangement, Chen Xinyue moved to Zhongshan Road.
Xiao Jinlin arrived in An City that same evening, planning to stay with Chen Xinyue until the baby was born.
"Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, and Mom all asked if you wanted to go back to the capital for delivery. I turned them down for you," Xiao Jinlin said smilingly, looking hopefully at Chen Xinyue’s belly.
Chen Xinyue raised an eyebrow, "What did you say? Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, and Mom had no objections?"
Xiao Jinlin smiled with amusement, "I said An City has a lovely climate at this time, neither too hot nor too cold, picturesque and pleasant everywhere. Grandpa and Grandma sounded quite intrigued, so there’s no way they have objections. I suspect they want to visit but feel shy to ask!"
Chen Xinyue was surprised but also much relieved.
On their first night staying at the house on Zhongshan Road, Chen Xinyue figured she might have trouble sleeping due to the new environment, yet nestled in Xiao Jinlin’s arms, she adjusted unexpectedly well, sleeping for about four hours. Near five in the morning, she was awakened by a stomach ache.
She quickly pinched Xiao Jinlin, urgently saying, "My stomach hurts!"
Xiao Jinlin was immediately alert, got up to dress, threw on clothes quickly, and helped Chen Xinyue up, putting a coat on her, then promptly took her to the hospital.
The city hospital was close to Zhongshan Road, with early morning light traffic, ensuring a smooth journey.
Once the admission paperwork was completed, Xiao Jinlin breathed a sigh of relief and quickly contacted Lin Qin.
