Back to 1984: Let's Work Hard Together to Raise The Kids!-Chapter 309: Company Conflict
Before the call was connected, another tall and beautiful woman walked over.
The two receptionists bowed uniformly, "Hello, Miss Gao!"
Gao Mei’er smiled instantly at the two of them, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes glanced over Lin Qin and Lin Ying before quickly retracting, and she sweetly asked, "Is President Xu here?"
The receptionist quickly nodded, answering respectfully, "President Xu has a routine meeting this afternoon. Would Miss Gao like to wait in the lounge?"
Gao Mei’er pouted, dissatisfied with the answer, and casually asked, "What are they here for?"
The receptionist, still unsure of Lin Ying’s identity, could only vaguely reply, "They are also here to see President Xu."
Gao Mei’er raised an eyebrow, finally taking a good look at Lin Qin and Lin Ying.
Seeing that the two of them weren’t wearing any brand name clothes, with Lin Ying looking particularly plain, not even sporting any nice jewelry, she showed some disdain, "What are you here to see President Xu for?"
Lin Ying didn’t like Gao Mei’er’s condescending scrutiny and snorted coldly without responding.
Lin Qin, however, didn’t openly express her dislike, just deliberately stayed silent.
"So rude!" Gao Mei’er arrogantly glanced at her delicate hand, her eyes half-closed, sneering slightly as her sharp gaze fell on the two receptionists, "It seems President Xu hired a couple of pretty faces who let just anyone in!"
The two receptionists’ faces changed dramatically; they looked at Lin Qin and Lin Ying, then at Gao Mei’er. On one side was the uncertain identity of the boss’s supposed mother, and on the other, the uncertain identity of the future boss’s wife. What to do?
The two of them were at a loss.
The one on the left quickly apologized to Gao Mei’er and went to make a call.
Fortunately, this time, Xu Jian’s secretary answered the phone.
The receptionist briefly explained the situation in the lobby, and the secretary soon came down.
Secretary Du Feng had never met Xu Jian’s family, so naturally, he didn’t recognize Lin Qin or Lin Ying, but he did know Gao Mei’er, whose family was quite wealthy and recently signed with the company. Her family had business dealings with President Xu and couldn’t be offended.
He quickly approached to greet Gao Mei’er.
Gao Mei’er was noticeably more amiable towards Du Feng, smiling sweetly upon seeing him, "Secretary Du, has President Xu finished the meeting? I’ve been waiting for him for quite a while!"
While talking, Gao Mei’er acted coquettishly.
Du Feng politely nodded, asking nicely, "Did you have an appointment with President Xu?"
Gao Mei’er shook her head proudly, "Not me, my dad. My dad and President Xu have a dinner appointment tonight, I’m here to pick Xu up!"
Du Feng suddenly understood, "Miss Gao, you’re too kind. The meeting is likely to last another half an hour. Why don’t you wait a little longer?"
"Alright then!" Gao Mei’er was a little unhappy and gave a vicious glare at Lin Ying, who was sitting opposite, "Secretary Du, President Xu clearly has an appointment with my dad, who are they? What do they want with President Xu? Could they be some country bumpkin relatives here to freeload?"
Country bumpkin relatives?
Du Feng quickly looked at Lin Qin and Lin Ying, then walked briskly to negotiate with the receptionist, "What’s happening here?"
The receptionist, afraid of being scolded, quickly defended, "We don’t know either, the person said she’s President Xu’s mother. We tried to verify by calling but the call wasn’t completed before Miss Gao arrived, and they argued, causing some unpleasantness."
Du Feng’s face changed dramatically, feeling cold sweat break out as he hastily approached Lin Ying and Lin Qin, "Excuse me, who are you two?"
Lin Ying waved her hand, "I’m waiting for Xu Jian, when can he see me?"
Not getting a direct response made Du Feng even more uncertain, and he quickly replied, "President Xu will probably be down in about half an hour."
"Then I’ll wait another half an hour!" Lin Ying sat firmly, as if ready to engage in a standoff with Gao Mei’er.
Du Feng felt the situation was a bit tricky, not wanting to offend either side, so he instructed the receptionist to serve them tea separately.
To everyone, half an hour felt like an eternity. It was a relief when they finally heard the elevator; everyone looked over.
When Xu Jian appeared, Du Feng and Gao Mei’er rushed forward.
Gao Mei’er directly pushed Du Feng aside, her eyes gleaming as she focused on Xu Jian, "President Xu! You’re finally here, I’ve been waiting for you for so long, let’s now..."
Xu Jian avoided any close contact with Gao Mei’er.
Du Feng quickly said, "President Xu, those two are here to see you."
Gao Mei’er fiercely glared at Du Feng; she had jumped in to speak first to prevent Xu Jian from being intercepted, but he brought it up anyway.
Xu Jian followed where Du Feng pointed, and was immediately startled, his heart skipping a beat.
"Oh my God!"
He hurriedly rushed to Lin Ying and Lin Qin, "Mom, Aunt, why didn’t you say you were coming to the company?"
Lin Ying, full of anger, glared hard at Xu Jian, shouting irritably, "Get lost! I’m not your mother!"
Xu Jian turned pale, grabbing Lin Ying’s arm, almost in tears, "Mom! What did I do wrong to make you scold me like this?"
"What did you do wrong?" Lin Ying angrily pointed at Gao Mei’er, "Who’s she?"
Gao Mei’er snapped out of her shock, immediately putting on a pitiful expression, "Auntie, I didn’t know you were President Xu’s mother, I didn’t mean to..."
Xu Jian was a bit flustered, "She’s just a new artist signed by the company, basically an employee, what’s the issue?"
"An employee? You’re fooling no one! What kind of employee acts so high and mighty at their boss’s company? Let me tell you, Xu Jian, if you dare get entangled with those dubious women, I... I won’t acknowledge you as my son!"
Lin Ying was furious, her loud voice could be heard throughout the first and second floors.
Xu Jian was at a loss for words, "Mom! I haven’t been involved with any other women! If you don’t believe me, ask Du Feng, he’s my secretary, he can vouch for me."
Du Feng nodded vigorously, "Madam, the boss indeed has kept himself pure; he hasn’t even had a girlfriend for years, dedicating himself entirely to business. I guarantee it."
Lin Ying snorted, rolling her eyes at Du Feng, "You’re his employee, your word means squat!"
Du Feng, innocently caught in the crossfire, glanced at Gao Mei’er, understanding the root of the issue, and solemnly raised his hand in oath, "Madam, every word I speak is true. This Miss Gao has no relationship with President Xu, their fathers have business dealings, and there’s a dinner tonight. Miss Gao came to pick him up, and we didn’t expect Boss Gao to be so enthusiastic as to send his daughter personally."
Hearing Du Feng’s words, Gao Mei’er felt even more aggrieved, her eyes misting as she looked at Xu Jian.
Xu Jian didn’t spare her a glance.
Lin Qin roughly understood, seeing Lin Ying still upset, she gently patted her hand, speaking in a voice neither too loud nor too soft, "Ah Jian, your mom and I are here to discuss your marriage with the Tang family. You know better than to be indiscreet, go buy a pair of rings with Jingjing and wear them every day. Have drivers take you around to avoid misunderstandings."
The color drained from Gao Mei’er’s face, making her look unsteady in her high heels.
At this point, the receptionist finally behaved sensibly, stepping up first to support Gao Mei’er, preventing her from falling onto Xu Jian.
Because Lin Qin and Lin Ying came by, Xu Jian immediately called Boss Gao to reschedule, and Gao Mei’er was courteously escorted out by the receptionists.
Only then did Lin Ying feel a bit better, her sharp gaze falling upon Xu Jian, "Pull something like this again, and I’ll break your legs!"
"Yes, yes, yes..." Xu Jian continuously apologized and pleaded, finally smoothing over the incident.
