Back to the 1980s: Transmigrated as the Bigshot's Pampered Wife-Chapter 100: She Stunned Him
Mr. Sheng had intended to help the man on the ground, but Geng Ruixian’s words angered him so much that he just got on his bike and left.
"Hey—don’t go! You can’t just leave someone in need. Are all you people from the compound this cold-blooded?"
"Weren’t you the one who told me to find Su Shuochi? I’m going to catch up to him before I do anything else."
"Comrade, thank you. I’m so sorry, I misunderstood you," Geng Ruixian apologized sheepishly.
Meanwhile, although Su Shuochi was eager to see his darling little wife, he noticed Old Sir Gu was a bit out of breath, so he slowed down.
"Grandpa, you can walk a little slower. This road leads right to the school gate."
"Jinghua is too slow. Jiaojiao’s getting out of school any moment now. We’d better hurry."
"Okay." Su Shuochi’s wheelchair could outpace a bicycle at its top speed, but he slowed down out of consideration for Grandpa’s health.
"Shuo Ci, can your wheelchair go even faster?"
"Yes, it can. You’re sharp, Grandpa; I’m impressed you could tell."
"Shuo Ci, you’re a good man. Jiaojiao is truly fortunate to have met you."
"Grandpa, meeting Jiaojiao was *my* good fortune. I’m the lucky one. If Jiaojiao hadn’t pulled me out of the abyss..."
"...I wouldn’t be so optimistic today. I’d still be wallowing in self-pity, unable to break free. I might have ended up even worse off than her big brother."
"Jiaojiao was the one who told me that adversity itself isn’t frightening. What’s frightening is not having the courage to stand tall and hold your head high."
"She said you can’t always expect your life to be filled with sunshine. Overcast skies often make you a stronger person."
Old Sir Gu said with emotion, "Jiaojiao is right. Rainbows always appear after the storm."
"If we hadn’t met you and Jiaojiao, Jinghua definitely wouldn’t have made it through!"
"And the grass would be growing on my grave by now. Jinghua is only listless because he has too much time on his hands."
Su Shuochi: ...
’So Grandpa knew that my brother-in-law was troubled by sorrow. Jiaojiao and I thought no one had noticed!’
"Grandpa, Shu Ci, you’re here?" Gu Jiaojiao’s cheerful voice interrupted Old Sir Gu’s reminiscence.
She was riding on the back of Dong Qiming’s bike, so she got out of the school gates ahead of the other students.
"Jiaojiao, are you tired from class? Let’s go home." Grandpa Gu smiled the moment he saw his granddaughter.
"Jiaojiao, it’s not just us," Su Shuochi said, walking up to take her hand. "Your big brother and Uncle Geng came too. They just got tired and are resting up ahead."
"Really? It’s wonderful that Big Brother was willing to come out. It’ll be good for his condition."
Gu Jiaojiao was overjoyed. "Cousin Dong, you can go on ahead. My grandpa and Shu Ci are here to pick me up."
"Bye, Cousin Jiaojiao." Dong Qiming and Zhang Mingyu pedaled away side-by-side on their bicycles.
"Well, well, I was wondering who was crowding the school gate. Turns out it’s a cripple and an old geezer with one foot in the grave."
Sheng Yueyue’s pursuer spoke with pure malice. He had been in a foul mood all afternoon after learning about the huge embarrassment Sheng Yueyue had suffered.
The moment he stepped out of the school gate and saw Gu Jiaojiao’s blossoming smile, he became enraged.
He was a junior and didn’t know that Gu Jiaojiao had already become famous among the seniors in Class 1.
SLAP.
Before Gu Jiaojiao could even say a word, she leaped forward and gave the boy a resounding slap across the face.
After slapping him, she warned, "Watch your filthy mouth, or I’ll tear it right off your face."
"Gu Jiaojiao, you’re unbelievable! What gives you the right to hit me? You’re not one of the Sheng family anymore. Let’s see what power you think you have now!"
As the male student spoke, he propped up his bicycle and moved to hit Gu Jiaojiao, but Su Shuochi pushed him to the ground with one hand.
"I’m relying on my husband’s power, that’s what. If you’ve got the guts, get up and hit me. Keep spouting nonsense, and I’ll beat you every time I see you."
Gu Jiaojiao planted a foot on the male student’s back and warned him arrogantly.
The onlooking students didn’t dare to step forward, let alone say anything.
Su Shuochi watched his wife, who was like an angry little kitten. She was so delicate and small,
yet here she was, baring her teeth to protect him. A warm feeling washed over him. "Honey, let’s go."
"Okay," Gu Jiaojiao said obediently, as if she wasn’t the one who had just hit someone.
The male student on the ground was so terrified by the chilling aura emanating from Su Shuochi that he lay there, not daring to move.
He could only watch helplessly as Gu Jiaojiao pushed the wheelchair and swaggered away.
Grandpa Gu’s hand suddenly moved, seemingly of its own accord, to ruffle Gu Jiaojiao’s hair.
"Jiaojiao, I don’t mind what he said. But you shouldn’t go around hitting people. Does your hand hurt?"
"It doesn’t hurt. I already slapped a rude female student this morning. Students like this who don’t know how to respect others? I’ll hit every single one I see."
"I can tolerate them insulting me, but I absolutely will not tolerate them insulting my family. They don’t dare tell the teacher anyway."
The corners of Gu Jiaojiao’s eyes crinkled with a smile, and her mischievous look attracted the attention of the surrounding students.
’They all made a mental note to never provoke this little demoness in the future.’
"Shuo Ci! Jiaojiao! Your big brother fainted!" Mr. Sheng said, panting for breath.
"Dad—I mean, Uncle Sheng... where is my big brother?"
This body had called him "Dad" for eighteen years, so seeing Mr. Sheng, the word had slipped out instinctively.
’Gu Jiaojiao corrected herself, slightly annoyed. He wouldn’t think she was trying to get back in his good graces, would he?’
This was the first time she had seen Mr. Sheng since she arrived here, and she wasn’t the least bit prepared.
Wrinkles had begun to appear on Mr. Sheng’s well-defined face, especially at the corners of his eyes and mouth, but his gaze was as sharp as ever.
"He’s at the three-way intersection up ahead. I was passing by on my way home from work and saw an old man shouting for help."
"Grandpa, don’t worry. I’ll take Jiaojiao over to take a look first. Thank you, Mr. Sheng."
After speaking, Su Shuochi pulled Jiaojiao onto his lap in the wheelchair and sped away.
Old Sir Gu wasn’t worried. He knew his grandson’s condition wasn’t serious, and besides, Jiaojiao was already on her way.
Mr. Sheng watched Gu Jiaojiao’s departing figure without blinking. He could tell his adoptive daughter had instinctively wanted to call him "Dad."
But then she had stiffly corrected herself. That part of his adoptive daughter’s personality—her decisiveness—came from him.
’Jiaojiao must be thinking, ’You’re the one who cut ties with me first, so I don’t want you anymore!’’
Just a moment ago, he had seen from a distance how Jiaojiao was talking with Su Shuochi, her smile like a blossoming flower. She could live a good life even without the Sheng Family.
Jiaojiao’s happy appearance was stunning enough to stop time, and it had stunned him as well.
Unlike Yueyue, who always looked like she was on the verge of tears, a sight that gave him a splitting headache.
A person’s unhappiness begins with envy and imitation.
Yueyue had clearly grown up on a farm. While not exactly brawny, she was at least a sturdy girl.
But she was always trying to become delicate like Jiaojiao, and that’s where the problem lay.
This clumsy imitation was a laughable sight, though she herself didn’t realize it. It also made her exceptionally tired, because she was forgetting more and more how to be her true self.
One must understand that there’s a reason heaven gives everyone a different life.
Living your own life well is the only shortcut to happiness.
"Mr. Sheng, thank you for bringing the news. This old man will go take a look now."
