Beast Awakening: When Wives Go Wild-Chapter 23 "Warning From Zhao Zen Wu!"
Bai Hua, who was at the front, suddenly halted as she sensed something. It wasn’t anything suspicious; instead, it was an aroma—a scent she hadn’t felt since her past life.
Her eyes widened, and a flush raced across her face upon realizing it.
They were still more than a hundred meters away from the door, but because of her beast lineage, the scent of lust filled her nostrils upon reaching a certain distance from Ru Feng’s courtyard.
Long Wei, whose attention was more on the guards who were lusting after them, also halted upon seeing Bai Hua stop in front of her.
"I’ll rip their heads off later..." She muttered but stopped upon sniffing the same scent as Bai Hua.
"This familiar odor!" Even before Bai Hua could utter a word, Long Wei had already pictured Xuan and Ru Feng behind the closed doors of the courtyard.
"This can’t be! That little chicken has finally done it." She was angry, but also surprised because of how shy Ru Feng could be with these matters, but the strong, familiar scent filling her nose was enough proof that Ru Feng had been with Xuan.
Bai Hua calmed herself down, but the frantic beating of her heart was hard to control. Still, she composed herself, "Should we wait?"
She asked, thinking that Long Wei would be burning with jealousy and anger, but to her surprise, there was a wide grin on her face.
Bai Hua couldn’t help but question, "I thought you wouldn’t like it, but seeing you smile like a demon, don’t tell me you are going to kill someone?" It was a joke, as she couldn’t tell what was actually going on inside her dragon head.
Long Wei finally gave an answer, after taking her time, "I... I won’t deny it, I’m jealous right now, but..."
She paused; Bai Hua could tell that something was going on inside Long Wei’s head.
"It seems husband has finally started accepting our feelings."
She had already been with Xuan once, inside the wooden shack when they first met. However, that encounter wasn’t the love she wanted from him.
It was just the lust that had taken over Xuan, knowing he wasn’t properly conscious of his identity, but now he has done it—not with her, which made her jealous—but she actually didn’t mind if it was one of the three.
Bai Hua couldn’t answer her. She was the least of the three to give thought to the feelings hidden in her heart, but if one day she had to, then they wouldn’t be any less than Long Wei’s or Ru Feng’s.
With an emotional tone she spoke, "This might be just the beginning of everything." It wasn’t about what Xuan did with Ru Feng, but the upcoming future which might throw them and Xuan into a test of wits.
Long had an understanding expression on her face, though the meaning behind those words might differ from Long Wei’s own.
They approached closer to the courtyard but instead of going inside, they waited patiently.
Every few minutes, Long Wei would put her ears to the doors or the walls to hear a sound, but she ended up with nothing every time.
"Stop acting like some pervert, Long Wei," Bai Hua reprimanded her.
Long Wei had an irritated expression on her face. "Tsk! They are taking too much time. The sun is about to fall, and here I thought I was going to get my chance with husband."
Her beautiful face turned into that of an old witch—and yes, a witch, not a bitch—with every second Xuan and Ru Feng spent inside the room.
Meanwhile, inside City Lord Sha’s hall, he had a grim expression on his face after Zhao Zen Wu told him to stop his act of a tyrant and let Ru Feng leave.
Zhao Zen Wu wanted to go into detail, but doing so would make his position weaker in front of Sha Vejun, the city lord of East River City.
"You think I’ll do as you say, with you threatening the destruction of my clan right in front of my eyes, inside my own place?"
Sha Vejun said, his tone already irritated after learning that some random bastard had claimed Ru Feng before he could.
Zhao Zen Wu shook his head, "That’s not what I meant, Vejun. I’m not threatening you. Instead, I’m here to stop you before more innocents suffer from your wrongdoings."
"Ha-ha-ha, You are talking about wrongdoing? You! Do you think I’m not aware of your wrongdoing?" Sha Vejun laughed with a mocking smile on his face.
Zhao Zen Wu’s face turned pale. He knew that people would somehow one day connect the disappearance of many individuals to him, but they wouldn’t pinpoint him as they didn’t have evidence against him. However, he felt Sha Vejun was a different case.
Still, he forced a smile, "I don’t know what you mean by those words, but I’m not here to threaten you but to save you and this city from imminent destruction."
Sha Lou, who was silently watching all of this, laughed. He hadn’t heard such petty talk in a long time.
Being the son of Sha Vejun and having been brought up in an environment where he never heard someone talk in such a way about the destruction of his clan—and those who had, had died a very cruel death.
He couldn’t help but mock, "Seems it’s time for your retirement, City Lord Zhao." Then with a curled-up smile, he spoke, "Why not hand over your city to me? I’ll marry your daughter, even though she reeks of low blood, but I’ll manage for your sake, so just retire and hide in a corner of this world."
"You!" Zhao Zen Wu was here to have a genuine talk with Sha Vejun, but he didn’t expect that a spoiled junior like Sha Lou would dare to mock him with so many people present in the hall.
Though others didn’t laugh, he could still hear a low chuckle.
