Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Nightmare of a Friend

Ved looked at the bags he was carrying, he doesn’t even know why he’s carrying them. Naledi literally had a spatial ring.

’ Perhaps she’s just trying to preserve a semblance of our old lives.’ he thought to himself.

He remembers that’s how it used to be before, down to the last detail except of course the entourage of maids following behind them.

Even the bags were filled to the brim with women’s clothing and feminine products even though she told him they were going shopping for his clothes.

He sighed, ’ I guess I should’ve expected this.’ he took the bags to their room without complaints.

" So, what did you talk about with queen Ambre?" She suddenly asked him. He smiled.

" You didn’t really think you could hide that from me did you?" He shook his head.

" I knew I couldn’t."

" So, what did you say to her?" She sat on the edge of the bed and turned towards him. He took his true form and lay on the floor on his stomach towering above her.

" I was in need of her certain skills, you know there are dark forces lurking in the shadows of our world.

To fight those hidden in the shadows, we will need shadows of our own." She nodded.

" That’s good, I really do not have time to go around looking for some secret order worshiping some ancient being."

They continued talking about their plans until nightfall then the time came. They entered the dream realm again.

At the same time the rest of the world fell into the dreaming. However through all of this they noticed the demonic beasts weren’t included.

They didn’t know the reasoning behind twisted beings like the herald so they didn’t bother trying to find out.

Ved entered White’s nightmare and what he saw both touched him and made him terrified.

Her nightmare was him dying which was touching since it meant her fears were losing him.

The disturbing part was the way he died, each death was more gruesome than the last and each time she was forced to watch, helplessly.

However everytime White watched him die, she drowned even more into her fears and despair and slowly losing a part of herself.

Ved knew if this continued she wouldn’t live until sunrise. Her soul would be completely devoured by her own fears.

She wasn’t the only one with this type of nightmare and they were always the hardest to deal with.

Protecting someone against something trying to harm them was straight forward. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Even though there might be some which are harder to deal with, they are still straightforward.

However these weren’t so simple, there’s no common way to do it, it differs for each individual.

In this case, White was forced to watch the person she loved the most which was him die over and over again.

The problem with these ones was that the dreamer can’t tell it’s a dream. Even though White was very powerful, she came across the most difficult of nightmares.

Ved didn’t know how to fix this, he can’t tell her it’s a dream since that won’t work, he can’t tell it’s him since that also won’t work.

The nightmare would filter his words out so he had trouble dealing with situations like this.

It was in times like this that he missed having the empathy he once had as a human.

Watching White suffer like this pained him greatly. Fortunately for him he had an angel by his side.

Naledi was the queen of despair itself, the heavens themselves foretold she would be in great mourning as her moniker would imply.

If anybody had a chance of pulling somebody out of despair it was her however it wasn’t easy.

Words alone were not enough to bring somebody out of something like that. Naledi drew close to White.

White acted as if she didn’t even see her, she screamed and lunged at the nightmare version of Ved.

The massive black dragon was crushed by a literal sun and burnt to nothingness.

" White sweetie, it’s me."

Naledi whispered but White ignored her. Ved sighed. " She won’t understand that, the nightmare prevents her from knowing who we really are."

He sighed again, " If it was another nightmare she wouldn’t even need our help, it just had to be this type."

Naledi looked at him, " Doesn’t matter what type of nightmare it is, she needs us and we’re going to help her."

He nodded agreeing with her, " So how do we do that?" She shook her head.

" I don’t know." She told his honestly.

" Weren’t you doing medicine before, isn’t this up your alley?"

She turned and glared at him. " I wasn’t a psychologist."

Then her voice grew softer, " But I guess we could just talk to her, keep her company so she won’t feel so lonely."

He nodded, Naledi sat next to White who was hugging her knees and crying. Ved wrapped his massive body around them.

" Are you alright sweetie?" She asked in a her sweet angelic voice. White didn’t answer and continued crying with her face buried in her knees.

Naledi wrapped herself around her and hugged her. " Do you want to hear a story?" She asked.

White still didn’t answer, the only sound that could be heard were her muffled cries. Naledi continued.

" There once was a princess, beautiful and kind or so she was told. This princess had two loving parents and lived in a beautiful castle.

All the other girls envied her but one day fate took her loving parents from her. For a long time she felt lonely and couldn’t stop crying, even with her friends around.

Then one day she met a little prince, the prince was different from most, he was lonely, even more lonely than she was."

She raised her head and looked at him then continued. " His heart was cold and his handsome face knew not a smile.

The princess didn’t like that, she wanted to see the prince smile and be happy so she tried.

For a long time he pushed her away but slowly she managed to warm his heart, in doing so, she warmed her own."

White raised her head and looked at Naledi. Tears still streaming down her eyes but her crying was no longer as intense as before.
