Chapter 115: RuneWarrior

The Mad Chieftain’s thick and plump lips curled into a smile.

He could already envision Ray getting crushed to a pulp under the might of his thunderously swung warhammer.

His confidence emerged from the fact that he had struck from Ray’s blind spot. So, he should definitely not be able to see it coming.

He didn’t know that, despite having no eyes behind his head, Ray had not only sensed his vicious attack coming but even determined its trajectory.

In a flash, an azure barrier formed to halt the Mad Chieftain’s expectations from coming true.

Boom!

A resounding reverberation thundered out as the warhammer struck the Azure Barrier with the wrath of a meteor strike.

A shockwave burst out from the point of impact. Cold, murky water erupted from the swamp bed in violent sprays.

Nearby, dilapidated buildings were leveled, chunks of stone blasting outward like shrapnel from an explosion.

It was a cataclysmic scene, yet, in the midst of that chaos, Ray’s Azure Barrier stood unbroken despite bearing the full brunt of the overwhelming might of the Mad Chieftain’s attack!

"You blocked it?"

The Mad Chieftain looked somewhat surprised before his eyes narrowed.

"I see." A thoughtful glint flashed in his eyes as he continued speaking, "You can perceive everything around you as if you’re viewing the world from above like a bird soaring high in the sky. If I am not wrong, which I doubt I am, you have a flawless 360° field of vision. You can’t be caught off guard easily as there’s no blind spot in your vision."

Ray said nothing. After all, when your enemy was making a mistake, the best thing you could do was stay silent.

The Mad Chieftain was clearly mistaken. Ray didn’t have some kind of special vision. He had a unique racial trait that lets him sense danger in advance.

The cause of the misunderstanding was simple.

The Mad Chieftain saw him as a human even though Ray was a Heavenly Being. The reason being they had the same form but they were two entirely different creatures.

Ray’s appearance was 100% identical to a human even though he was part of the race humans could evolved into after meeting certain conditions!

Since humans were nothing special as they lacked innate powers that most races were born with, the Mad Chieftain failed to correctly guess Ray’s ability. Not only that, he continued speaking in an arrogant tone, digging his grave deeper.

"But if that’s all that’s behind the reason for your arrogance, then you’re going to get buried here!"

The Mad Chieftain swung his warhammer again as soon as he finished speaking.

Ray’s response came far too fast. A powerful azure gust burst out, striking the side of the warhammer and forcefully changing its trajectory.

The redirected swing missed Ray entirely, slamming into the swamp bed instead, sending murky water and chunks of wet earth flying into the air and creating a massive crater where it struck.

"You’re mistaking confidence for arrogance."

Ray turned around calmly and stared the Mad Chieftain dead in the eye.

"You’re going down whether you like it or not. But since you’re a tad bit stronger than I expected, it’ll take a little longer than usual. Not that I’m complaining." He flashed a taunting grin. "It’s going to be fun taking you out."

Of all the words Ray could have chosen to speak, he had chosen to speak truth, and truth, unfortunately, cuts deeper than any blade.

The Mad Chieftain didn’t take kindly to it. His pride, like his fury, was easily provoked.

"Damn human! You really know how to wound another’s pride with cheap words! I won’t rest until you’re dead."

The Mad Chieftain, consumed by anger, threw caution to the wind and attacked Ray madly.

This was exactly what Ray had been aiming for from the very start.

His earlier provocations had been deliberately crafted to stoke the flames of the Mad Chieftain’s fury. Having fought countless battles already, he had understood one thing clearly, that a calm opponent was dangerous, but an enraged one was predictable. After all, when reason faded and wrath took the reins, even cunning demonic creatures and beasts tended to abandon defense for the sake of overwhelming offense.

Now that the Mad Chieftain was attacking with everything he had in a desperate attempt to crush him as fast as possible, it would create many openings that Ray could exploit to his advantage and grasp victory.

"Is dodging all you know?!" The Mad Chieftain gnashed his teeth, watching Ray dance at the edge of his attacks expressionlessly like a darn butterfly. He was always a hair away from being harmed, always! Playing with his feelings like a damn rat!!!

Ray’s biting remark came, "Not only do you behave like the losers I had the misfortune of dealing with in the past, you cry like them too. Tsk, tsk, tsk!"

He clicked his tongue over and over, expressing unbearable disappointment.

His actions were no different than adding fuel to the fire.

The Mad Chieftain completely lost it, his eyes turning crimson.

"I will fucking kill you! Die, you bastard!"

The Mad Chieftain roared and swung his warhammer again, but this time he burst out with unexpected strength.

His tattoos flared crimson, and flames erupted along the warhammer’s length as it came crashing down toward Ray’s last line of defense.

The second the blazing warhammer slammed into the Azure Barrier protecting Ray, waves of ridiculously high-temperature flames burst outward. The Azure Barrier melted away almost instantly under the overwhelming heat, but by then, Ray had already leapt backward, narrowly escaping the danger.

He flipped through the air as the flame waves from the Mad Chieftain’s warhammer washed beneath him, evaporating a large volume of swamp water in the ruins of Yarnan.

"Don’t think you can escape!" The Mad Chieftain lunged toward Ray, who smirked coldly. In his eyes, the Mad Chieftain was no different than a fool rushing willingly towards his own destruction.

’What an idiot. He’s leaping straight into the maws of death.’

Disdain for the Mad Chieftain surged into Ray’s heart as he leaped backward to escape the reach of his attack.

Then, countless azure spears materialized in midair. Each one hummed like a blade forged for slaughter, and their razor-sharp tips pointed directly at the Mad Chieftain, who suddenly found himself at the center of a storm, a storm made of Azure Spears.

In the very next instant, the storm began to close in on him as Ray roared, "Go to hell!"

A torrential rain of azure spears descended on the Mar Chieftain from every conceivable direction — front, back, left, right, above, and below. In that moment, it was as though the very heavens themselves had turned into his enemy.

"Like hell I will!"

The Mad Chieftain bellowed furiously and slammed his colossal warhammer into the ground.

All around him, obsidian walls erupted upward in a dome-like formation, deflecting most of the azure spears with loud, metallic clangs.

Still, several azure spears pierced through the defensive formation, impaling his shoulder and thigh.

"Damn you!" he snarled at Ray before ripping the spears out of his flesh.

Blood gushed out in thick, steaming spurts from the gaping holes in his body, yet those wounds were far from fatal.

The bleeding slowed almost immediately as his wound began closing at a rate visible to the naked eye.

Ray wasn’t the least bit suprised to see his wounds knitting together. He knew his innate power granted him monstorous regeneration.

According to the intel he had received, as long as the Mad Chieftain of the Targodyles still possessed magic power in his body, he could regenerate from nearly any wound.

Even from being decapitated or having his heart completely destroyed!

Ray had already devised a strategy to deal with that regeneration.

He simply hadn’t yet found the opening he was looking for, that one precise moment he believed that would allow him to turn the Mad Chieftain’s greatest strength into his greatest weakness.

"How did you like that?" Ray taunted, his lips curling into a mocking grin.

The more enraged the Mad Chieftain became, the faster he would burn through his mana reserves, and the easier it would get to strike him dead when the opportunity came.

So, Ray had to keep pissing him off more and more. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"You will pay for that dearly!"

The Mad Chieftain’s tattoos darkened, turning pitch black as a bone-chilling aura rose from his massive frame.

The surrounding temperature dropped by several degrees as his bone chilling aura crawled along his arms and coiled around his warhammer like a nest of writhing serpents before he struck it down with earth-shattering force.

From the ground around Ray, dozens of gigantic skeletal arms burst forth in that very instant.

Each was nearly fifteen meters long and as thick as a tree trunk. They were gigantic!

One of the gigantic skeletal hands fell toward Ray like a collapsing mountain, but he wasn’t crushed beneath it as he dodged to the side with extreme speed.

But his sixth sense flares up, warning that he had made a terrible mistake.

Before he could even respond to it, another gigantic skeletal hand burst from the swampy ground and trapped him in its horrifying grasp!

Suddenly, Ray found himself in a very risky situation!
