Chapter 100: Getting ready for purification

As they walked from the path back to the otter residence. Mira, Uri, and Visha made small talk. They didn’t talk about anything serious. That kind of talk was for later, after their alliance had been formed. For now, although Mira had appreciation for them, she wouldn’t say anything that would reveal clan business.

The people of the River Clan went to collect the tangle root and sun orchids. Uri and Visha made their way back to the dwelling they were given the day before. Sitting by themselves, a quiet intimacy settles over the two.

The bond between the two was very distinct at this moment. Different from when Visha left, the bond felt muted when she was alone. With Uri, it felt sharp. She knew the bond was affected by their individual presence, but she never really noticed the difference as starkly as she does now.

They were almost always together. The feeling of being around one of them when the other is so far away was something she hadn’t experienced before. She still felt Xeno, that wouldn’t change. She still knew that he was enjoying himself on his run. But sitting with Uri directly across from her, she could feel the difference; it was electric.

When the three of them were together, the bond felt like a sacred space. She could feel the balance between them, each reinforcing the other.

Sitting by the door, they watched the lively children running around and splashing in the water. Visha sat watching Uri, and Uri sat watching the water.

"It’s quiet without him," Visha said softly.

Uri turned, his hazel eyes focused on her. As they always did, his eyes locked on her, threatening to pull her in. "It is," he agreed, his voice low. "You miss him already," he stated.

"I do. But I’m glad to have time alone with you. We don’t have time alone like this often," she said wistfully.

A faint smile touched Uri’s lips. "It does not. I can feel the difference in the bond. You should spend time with Xeno alone as well."

She smiled, listening to his words. "I will. You two should spend time alone together, too."

Just like that, a quiet understanding passed between the two. The bond with the three of them will never disappear. They knew that, but they still needed to build the relationship individually. They don’t always have to spend time together, the three of them.

He reached out, his long fingers tracing her jaw. The touch was so light she almost thought she imagined it. Had it not been for seeing it, she would have thought she imagined it.

"I know," he murmured. "That sometimes I may be too quiet. It is my nature. I want you to know that I see you. I am yours."

He took her hand, placing it on his heart. The whooshing sound of his heart was faster than Visha had ever felt before.

"Sha’mīn, I know you feel it through the bond, but I need to say it. I am your mate. You are mine. I will never leave and you can never leave me. Do not doubt what I feel for you and do not doubt what you feel through the bond."

Visha wasn’t sure what to say. She wants to say she understands, she knows, that she feels the same way. Instead, she nods and makes a sound of understanding.

His eyes hold her in place. They darken, and he leans in, slow and deliberate. He stops just as he is about to touch her lips. He waits for her to take the initiative. This is his way. She acknowledges his need for her response.

She meets his lips with her own. His kiss is slow, deep, and searching. He wants her surrender, and she is willing to give it. He wasn’t just taking; he was showing her that he was willing to give her whatever she wanted. It was a question and answer, an intimacy that was theirs alone.

When they separated, the air around them was charged. He rested his forehead against hers, his eyes closed.

"I am yours, he murmured. "And you are mine."

She hummed.

They stayed like this for a while before pulling away.

The people of the River Clan had finished getting the items they needed. They had to separate and get back to business. Visha and Uri could hear them walking towards their dwelling.

"We need to start preparing the purification mixture," Visha said, taking the skyberries and powdered flare crystal out of the space with her pouch as cover.

Uri nodded, shifting from mate to leader. "The flare crystal, how is it supposed to be used?"

"It’s the catalyst. Without it potion won’t work. But the amount to be used is precise. If I use too little, it won’t affect the parasites. Too much might harm the other plants in the water."

The River Clan people walked over to the place not long after their conversation started. They handed the things to Visha. Mira didn’t accompany them.

"Elder Mira is having a meeting with the other elders. She apologizes for not being able to meet with you again," said one of the people who came with the items.

Visha smiled, "That’s fine. I’m sure she has things to do."

After they left, Uri spoke. "They are discussing what to do if your method does not work."

"I expect as much," Visha answered. "It isn’t wrong of them to do that. It’s their livelihood. They are making sure there are countermeasures."

"It shows they do not trust us," Uri countered.

"You would do the same," she looked up at Uri, her eyes smiling. "You know you would do the same. Don’t blame them for something you would do too."

She heard the huff from Uri. She laughed. He was only in his twenties, and he was acting like he was an old man.

"Alright. Don’t huff," she replied.

She looked at the things the River Clan brought her she noted that there was everything she needed to concoct.

Together, she worked with Uri. While she crushed the sun orchids, he separated the tough fibers from the sap. He held part of the root under his arm and, using his fingers, he deftly removed the fibers.

He had gotten used to having one arm. however she still didn’t give up on possibly healing his other arm. With the EXP she would get after dealing with the River Clan, she would be able to move up a level. She was curious as to whether she would be able to heal him when she upgraded.
