Chapter 125: Choosing slaves (1)

The trio took a moment to calm themselves down.

The River Clan had already walked away, only patting them, Uri and Xen,o on the shoulder as they passed. The trio did not know if that irritated them more or if they accepted the condolences.

Reyn led them through the settlement. Past people dressed in silk, with intricate patterns on their faces. They were obviously a people obsessed with aesthetics. Every corner of the glen was a work of art. However, underneath it all, Visha felt a strange sense of wrongness.

Everything was too perfect.

The beauty of the glen ended when they arrived at a large open-air enclosure. They weren’t placed in individual caves. Rather, they were placed in a large area where people could walk around and see them.

They were dressed beautifully. For some, had it not been for the collars around their necks, the marks on their bodies, and the despair in their eyes, no one would recognize them as slaves. The others, the only difference is that they had beast features. Whether male or female, they all had some sort of beast feature.

"These are prizes we have to offer." Reyn smiled. "I’m sure Priestess Visha would only want the best." His eyes shifted, seemingly genuine as he took in Visha.

Visha wasn’t sure how to respond. She was already upset at the earlier interaction. Now, she saw the ’prized’ slaves they wanted to sell; she had to wonder what the ones who were considered lesser would look like.

"There are many fine specimens," Reyn continued. "Strong, healthy and...unique. We have a panther, recently acquired. A rare find. Highly spirited."

Reyn’s eyes flitted to Xeno. "Perhaps she could be a good...pet for a strong tiger?"

Xeno sneered, not rising to the bait.

"We are here to trade, nothing else," Visha replied. "You may check and see if there is anything you like, and we can talk about taking away a few people."

Xeno had been pulling the cart this entire time. The things they had to trade were on the cart. They brought spices, pre-mixed cement, flare crystals, and Visha took out two pearls to use as trade if all else fails.

Reyn’s salesman smile never faltered. If they did not know better, they would think he was genuinely interested in what they had to offer.

"What do you have to offer?" Reyn asked.

Visha told them about the items they had brought. After Uri told her that the foxes liked beauty, she specially took out some of the skincare she had made. She didn’t use them often. She noticed she hadn’t really needed them. But the beauty-obsessed foxes might enjoy it.

After she explained the things they brought, she noticed the small smile on his face never changed. That’s when Visha took out a jar of cream she made. "

This is a moisturizer," she said. "If you use it on your skin, it will feel soft, supple, and tender to the touch. We can trade this, but we didn’t bring many because it is difficult to make."

Reyn’s eyes flashed. "We already have moisturizer. We don’t need it."

Visha almost smirked. She got the recipe with the help of the system. She didn’t think anyone here could beat the system. "Try it," she insisted.

Reyn snapped his fingers, and a beautiful woman appeared beside him. Her eyes were devoid of emotion. She simply stood and waited for an order. He pointed his finger at the jar, "Take it. Put some of the moisturizer on your hand to test."

The woman took the jar and opened it. A refreshing scent filled the nostrils of the people standing nearby. They couldn’t help turning to take a look. The woman dotted her finger in the jar, taking out a small amount. She rubbed it onto the back of her hand.

As everyone stared at her hand, the difference was clear at a glance. After one use, the place where the woman smeared the moisturizer was visibly smoother. It was a contrast to the rest of her hands that had obviously been doing rough work for numerous years.

Reyn’s eyebrow raised, and what Visha assumed was a genuine smile graced his face. As much as she didn’t like the man, she had to admit he was handsome. Uri’s hand on her waist brought her thoughts back to the present.

She placed her hand on his bare chest to apologize and reassure him. Then she reached out to pinch Xeno’s waist.

"I think this is something we can trade. How many do you have?" Reyn asked.

"That depends on you," Visha stated. "How would we trade?"

Reyn paused for a moment, looking at the slaves, then back to the jar in the woman’s hand. "Two slaves from this batch. We can negotiate slaves from another batch."

Visha, Uri, and Xeno talked through their link. They knew they couldn’t get everyone. They expected there to be multiple places where slaves were kept. Hearing it now, she wondered where the other slaves were kept.

"Okay," Visha said, her gaze sliding over the people in front of her.

"We’ll take her and him." The her is Nyx, who made the system register. The other is a male half-shifter. He had wings similar to Kaelen’s. She assumed he might be from the same tribe or a similar tribe.

"Good choice," said Reyn. "We will get them ready for you."

"Ready? What else is there to do? Can’t they leave like this?" Xeno questioned.

"They need to be branded," Reyn smiled, and Visha caught a glimpse of the kind of person he truly was.

She saw it in the way he smiled. He enjoyed branding them. He enjoyed inflicting whatever other kinds of torture he might have thought up for them.

The thought made Visha want to hit him. But she also knew there was no reason for her to be a saint. She would find a way to get rid of the brand when they returned to the pack. If these people wanted to join, she would help them; if they wanted to leave, she would allow it.
