Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 140: Lyra is awake
Visha was resting her eyes when she felt the person next to her moving around. She saw Lyra rousing from her two-day rest. She watched her groan and mumble before opening her eyes.
Visha watched Lyra take in her surroundings. According to Cato, after he brought Lyra inside, she fainted. She knew he would want to know how she could tell something was wrong. But, she did not want to answer. She didn’t allow Cato to ask many questions. Especially because over the past two days, Visha had to be the one to stay with her.
According to her beast, it had something to do with her bloodline awakening. Even though Cato was her mate, it would be easier for her if Visha were nearby. So much to the displeasure of the three men, the two women stayed together.
Uri and Xeno were even more upset because Visha decided to stay in Cato’s house, which meant they were not able to sleep with her at night. Plus, she had started to smell like Cato, which made them even more irritable.
Visha smiled as she saw Lyra open her eyes. "Are you finally awake?"
"Priestess?" Lyra asked, her voice groggy.
"Good. At least you haven’t forgotten who I am." Visha pressed her hand against Lyra’s forehead, making sure she did not have a fever. "How do you feel?"
Hearing Visha’s voice, Lyra sat up suddenly. Her eyes were wide, and her breathing was fast and shallow.
"Hey, hey, calm down," Visha said quickly. "You just woke up. Do you want to fall unconscious again?"
Lyra’s panicking calmed slightly as Visha hugged her. She stroked her back, trying to get her to calm down. After a few moments, she finally got her to quiet down. But when she did, she still looked at Visha as if she had seen a ghost.
Her eyes flickered over Visha’s face. Her nostril twitched, and she inhaled sharply before her eyes widened and she covered her mouth. Vish smiled when she saw her reaction. She knew what was happening. She was actually smelling her scent. Her beast warned her this mighthappen.
She didn’t expect Lyra to understand so quickly. But then again, she was the one who was having a hard time really accepting what happened to her. Even if she understands that her beast is a part of her. After suppressing it for so long, a few months might help her accept things, but it won’t be to the point of Lyra, who had lived with beastmen all her life.
So Visha understood why she was able to adapt so quickly.
"Done smelling, right sis?" Visha chuckled.
Lyra’s hands still covered her mouth. She nodded, still amazed at what was happening.
"Take your time. I’ve had the past few days to process."
Time passed, and Visha lay in bed, listening to Lyra’s breathing. She didn’t go anywhere. She wanted to give herself time to adjust.
Lyra finally removed her hand from her mouth. "Are you really my sister?"
"Well, I better be, or someone has a lot of explaining to do," Visha responded jovially.
"Why are you so calm?" Lyra asked.
Visha propped herself up. "Should I go around screaming? I’m still a priestess; I have a reputation to maintain. And like I said, I’ve had a few days to process. You’ve been unconscious for two days."
"Two days!" Lyra yelled. Visha covered her mouth.
"Unless you want Cato running in here, you’d better keep it down."
"Two days," she muttered. "And you’ve been with me this entire time?"
"Pretty much. It helped you sleep better. Blood recognizing blood and all that."
Visha sounded very casual. She was anything but casual. For the past few days, she had been spiraling. But, she couldn’t change the facts. The only things she was sure of now were that Lyra was her sister and, for some reason, she ended up in the previous world, and Lyra was here with the people from Stonefang.
"How are you feeling?" Visha asked.
"Overwhelmed," Lyra murmured. Then she shuffled up in bed. Crossing her legs, she asked, "So do you know our parents?"
Visha shook her head. She never had parents. As far as she knew, they were dead. Shitty foster parents don’t count as parents. People who exploit you don’t count as parents.
"I’ve been alone for as long as I can remember," Visha replied wistfully. "Anyway, let’s not talk about me. Let’s talk about you. How are you feeling?"
Visha didn’t miss the look in Lyra’s eye, the small twinge of sadness. She figured Lyra must be sad to lose the only parents she had ever known. She must feel betrayed.
Lyra sighed, "I’m...I’m not sure."
Visha nodded in understanding. She was overwhelmed herself. She didn’t push. She gave her the time to relax and truly understand what she was feeling. This took less time than Visha expected.
She couldn’t help sighing. Living in the beast world really does wonders for a person’s acceptance levels.
"It feels strange. Like I’m seeing everything for the first time. Touching things is strange," her fingers brushed against the furs. "Hearing things is different. Things I wasn’t able to hear before, I can hear them now."
"There’s a whole lot more to it than that." Visha sighed. "Or maybe because I haven’t really been able to accept it. It has affected me a lot."
"Not accept it? Why? I feel more powerful. My body feels more intune with itself than it ever has before." Lyra smiles. A smile of pure delight and satisfaction.
"There are many things you and the tribe do not know about me, Lyra. Things I have no intention of sharing." Visha stroked her hair. "Just know that there are places that are like nothing you have ever seen in your life."
She could see Lyra’s confusion. She did not say anything else. She only let the conversation hang there. She gave Lyra time to understand that some things are better left unsaid.
"So...do we need to tell others that we are related? Do you think we’ll ever see our parents? Do you know why we’re like this? Did you feel the same when it happened to you?"
The questions poured out of Lyra. Visha sat there, mouth slightly agape. She wasn’t sure how to answer any of Lyra’s questions.
Thankfully, before she could answer, Cato came stomping in. His breathing was heavy.
"Lyra!" he called out.
Lyra beamed when she saw him. Visha quietly decided to sneak away. She did not want to see anything she shouldn’t. She also had two men who were angry with her. She needed to calm her own mates.
Plus, she was running away from Lyra and all her questions.
