Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 187: The Ram Tribe
Tomorrow came quickly. The group set off early with the mindset of leaving early to return early. Things in the pack were, as usual, handed over to Krag and Chi. The trio felt that with them, everything would be fine. But they also knew that soon, they would need to make other arrangements.
The days flew past as the group quickly made their way to the Ram tribe. They made their way to one of the many mountain peaks in the Eastern part of the continent. This is where the Ram tribe lives. Similar to the Stone-horns, they live in the mountains.
The place they live has been made into a terrace for their living space. Roc, who was a part of the collection party, looked around the area as he arrived. This was the place he had known all his life. He never thought there would be a day when he would join someone else.
Now he was back, only to collect the people he cared about and leave. He knew it wouldn’t be easy, but it had to be done.
Not long after stepping into Ram territory, a loud horn blared
"This is to signal someone approaching the tribe," Roc said. The trio nodded. "Three horns mean they see us as a threat."
"When we tell them we want to take their people, won’t they see us as a threat then?" Xeno quipped, a crooked smile on his face.
An odd silence fell over the group. For the past few days, the change in their leaders has both puzzled and intrigued them. There is a kind of confidence they hadn’t seen before. Xeno, who usually had a stern face and a relaxed posture, had almost completely let go of the stern way he used to speak and act. However, they could still feel his power.
Uri, who was always cold, still had a chilly aura, but he was much more approachable. He did not constantly appear to want to avoid everyone except Xeno and Visha. As for Visha, they had always seen her as approachable, but now she was more playful. Yet, there was a hint of ferocity and enchantment that blended seamlessly.
When they arrived at the Ram tribe, there were already people outside waiting to greet them. One such person was Joruk, the Ram tribe leader. The moment he saw them, the wide smile on his face disappeared. His stance became defensive. His eyes darted between the people approaching.
His eyes fell on Roc and the two other Ram males. Then to the others following. Both males and females.
The trio watched his jaw tighten. Xeno sent a pack link to Roc, letting him know they might be in for some trouble. He also assured him that as long as their partners wanted to leave, they would ensure they were safe. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Roc was the one to step forward, as they had discussed. "Tribe Leader Joruk, as you requested, we bring information about the howl. We can stay for a night before leaving with our partners, I hope you understand."
This was what Uri told him to say. He felt there was no need to pretend. Since they wanted information about the howl, they would give it. But that information would be given as trade.
"Roc," Joruk spoke, "what do you mean you need to leave?"
"We are now a part of the Warm Pack. We have retrieved the information, but this is the cost." Roc straightened his back, looking into the tribe leader’s eyes. "You once said that we should get the information at any cost. This was the cost."
"But they..." Joruk stopped speaking. His gaze fell on the others behind Roc. They stopped on the trio.
The males in the group wore fur-lined animal-skin vests that hugged their torsos. Their pants were made from thick animal pelts. Leather animal-skin boots reach up to their thighs. Their hair flowed freely. The women wore similar attire, the exception being that their vests had sleeves. Their hair was woven with leather threading woven into the braids.
Joruk’s eyes stopped on the trio because of the distinct difference in their style of dress. Visha’s hair was a more complex braid carrying various colours, her white hair standing out against the other women. Uri and Xeno were dressed like the other men, but in their hair was a single braid on the left side of their hair.
This difference was deliberate. This was their way of letting others know their status.
Visha caught Joruk staring and offered a polite smile. Roc also saw him staring. At this time, he introduced the trio.
Gesturing to Uri and Xeno, he said, "These two are the leaders of the Warm Pack, leader Uri and leader Xeno." Then he turned to Visha, doing a small bow, "This is the priestess of the Warm Pack, priestess Visha. They are here to see the smooth transition."
Uri stepped forward, "Tribe Leader Joruk. We want to thank you for sending such skilled people to our tribe. We understand you are looking for information. Since we have accepted your people, we are willing to give you the information as compensation."
Joruk’s mouth twitched; he was speechless. But at the same time, his eyes also became sharp. "Treason!" he spat.
The group didn’t move.
"Treason in what way?" Uri asked in a cold tone. "Did you not send them to become a part of our pack? That was what you agreed upon when you had them return. Was it not?"
Uri didn’t raise his voice; he didn’t need to. The authority his body carried was enough to make Koruk speechless if he really needed to. And the tone of his voice gave no room for discussion.
Yet, Joruk, as the tribe leader, felt he had to keep his pride. Rather than argue outside the tribe, he invited them in. He thought to himself that once they were in, it was unlikely they would be able to leave without shedding some skin.
"Apologies, that was agreement," he said smiling a smile that did not reach his eyes. "Let’s go inside where we can talk. Since we have already agreed, it would be remiss of me not to entertain you."
With that, they walked into the Ram tribe.
