Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 89: Making sure to rest well
The sun was high when Visha arrived at the caldera. When everyone saw her and Kaelen coming back, they gathered in the square. The enthusiasm and excitement at them being back was clear.
Kaelen hadn’t been a part of the pack long, but he was still someone they valued. It was because he was willing to go with Visha that she was able to go and return so quickly.
Xeno, who was on patrol, suddenly stopped. A whooping sound left his chest as he ran to the square. Uri, who was making a list of rules for the pack to follow, heard the eagle’s cry. His head snapped towards the sound, and he moved immediately.
Both men started moving towards the square, forgetting the work they had to do. Though they weren’t the only ones.
The entire pack gathered in the square, waiting for Visha to appear. They watched Kaelen approaching. Listening to the cry he made before landing. They were so excited at the prospect of her coming back that they missed the scent of the two additional people.
It wasn’t until the basket was placed safely on the ground and they saw the three heads that they became aware that there was someone else in the basket with Visha.
The pack members were startled. They murmured among themselves as they took in the sight of the additional people.
Kaelen greeted everyone and stood a way off, watching everything that was happening.
Jumping out of the basket, Visha jumped straight into Xeno’s arms. He hugged her tight and spun her. Uri stood watching the two with a joyous smile on his face. His lips curved upward in a large smile that one would not normally see. When Xeno put her down, Uri walked forward, wrapping his arm around her briefly. He pulled back and surveyed her face.
The weariness of the travel was etched on her face. But her eyesas she looked at them were bright. Shining like diamonds.
While the throuple were having their reunion. The pack members were in a state of confusion. They were glad for Visha’s return. But when they saw Heta and Kael coming out of the basket, they couldn’t understand why or how they managed to come back with Visha.
Didn’t they stay with the Tiger tribe? Why did they decide to leave and come back with Visha now?
What made it all the more strange was Kael’s obvious protective nature towards Heta. He hugged her close and looked at the others as though they were trying to steal her away. Another reason for the strangeness was that they noticed that Heta was pregnant.
Cato was the first to notice it. His eyes went wide, fixed on Heta. "Heta?" he whispered. His voice was full of disbelief. His gaze dropped to her belly. It wasn’t showing yet, as it had not even been a month, but beastmen could smell a pregnant female.
"You’re...pregnant?" The disbelief in his voice became thicker.
He wasn’t jealous or upset that she was pregnant. It was simply unbelievable that she was able to get pregnant again so quickly. Cato had always expected Heta to find another partner after she remained in the Tiger tribe.
"Pregnant?" Came Willa’s soft voice. She came up to Heta, who was standing there with her eyes down. "You’re pregnant?"
She reached out to touch Heta, only to have Kael pull Heta closer to him. Willa’s hands dropped to her sides. A blush crept up her face at the rejection.
Nimo ran up to his mother. "Ma! You’re back." The way he said it made it sound as though his mother had only been away on a trip and would come back eventually. "You can live with me and Ba in the house."
"Your mother can’t live with you." Kael rejected the cub on the spot.
Nimo looked up at him with his innocent eyes. "Why?"
"She and your Ba aren’t partners anymore. Only partners can live together."
Nimo looked at the three people before deciding how to answer. "Then you sleep with Ma and I’ll sleep with Ba. You’re Ma’s new partner, right?"
The change in partner didn’t cause a massive shift in Nimo. Cato had already explained to him. In additional he had heard others of the Tiger tribe talking about people living with new partners.
"Everyone." Uri’s voice cut through. "Allow them to rest. They have all just come back from a long journey. I am sure you all want to catch up." As he said this, his eyes fell on Heta and Kael. "We can all talk after the evening meal."
Nodding in agreement and murmuring, everyone gradually dispersed. Nimo dragged his mother to see the house. Excited to tell her all the things he had seen during his time away from her.
Cato and Kael studied each other. Kael puffed his chest slightly, and Cato let out a small chuckle. "I know. You’re proud to have her. She should have been yours a long time ago. Let’s forget about the old things. You two are together now. I wish you well."
After Cato commented, Kael visibly relaxed.
Uri, Xeno, and Visha watched the small interaction between the two before heading to their home.
When they got home, the two men didn’t allow Visha to do anything. They showered her with affection. They bathed her, clothed her, picked her up and laid her on the bed.
"You have something on your mind," Uri stated. He pressed a finger between her furrowed brows.
"Don’t tell us now. Just sleep, and we will talk about it later," Xeno chimed, climbing into bed next to Visha.
Uri occupied the other side of the bed. Both men hugged Visha, wrapping her in their scent.
Visha lay there, listening to the sound of their hearts beating. She listened to the strong heartbeat coming from Xeno’s chest. She likened it to his personality. Then she listened to the whooshing sound of Uri’s heartbeat. It sounded muffled, just like the man who could hide his feelings when necessary.
It wasn’t long before she fell asleep listening to their heartbeats.
