Become A Football Legend-Chapter 17: Introduction
Chapter 17: Introduction
Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
♪ I don’t got no time to play around, what is this? Must be a circus in town, let’s shut the shit down on these clowns; can I get a witness? (Hell yeah!) ♪
Lukas was nodding his head as he ran 15km/h(9.3mph) on a treadmill. He was at the LTC.
After what felt like half an hour, he reduced the speed on the treadmill, took a towel, and wiped his sweat.
"Music sure does make training more bearable, huh?" He said as he kept catching his breath.
"Why didn’t you tell me you had this feature?"
[*I literally said you have everything a gym can offer. How many gyms do you know that don’t have a sound system?*]
"Yeah, but you should have mentioned it. Especially when I kept complaining how boring it was without music."
[*I didn’t feel like doing that.*]
Lukas had complained everytime he did strength exercises at the LTC gym, but TT only mentioned the sound system when Lukas asked it why it didn’t have one.
"What else am I forgetting to ask about that you have?"
[*If you don’t know what to ask, doesn’t that mean you don’t really need it? If it was so important, you’d know what it is.*]
"True. But why do I gotta pay for this? As you’re a system, shouldn’t you have access to all music and stuff? You made me pay for Spotify premium!"
[*Pirating is a crime. I don’t commit crimes.*]
"It sure will be funny if someone at Spotify notices that the account was used to pay 24 hours worth of music in 24 seconds."
[*You don’t have to worry about that. But seriously though, what’s up with your playlist? You lived till 2044, but your playlist is stuck in the 90’s and early 2000’s.*]
"What can I say? I just love the music from that period."
DING*
The system window chimed in front of Lukas to notify him that his rest time was over.
"Okay! Last set, let’s do this. Today is the first day of the tryouts, gotta leave a good impression." Lukas said as he got off the bench he was sitting and walked back to the treadmill.
***********
In a black Audi A1 Sportback, the windows were rolled down as Lukas stared outside, the scenery flying by him as his hair blew in the wind. He looked deep in thought, but anyone who saw him, would think he was shooting an ad for Audi.
"For the past 3 days, I have done strength training twice, and attack training once. I don’t know if that will be enough."
"What are you thinking about so deeply?" Javi, who was driving the car asked. He had been glancing at his son occasionally, but Lukas kept gazing into the distance.
"Nothing really. I’m just calming my nerves." Lukas responded as Javi’s question brought him back to real time.
"You’ll be fine son. I trust you"
"How do you trust me? The last time you saw me play, I was trash."
"Ahem.. Who said that? Don’t say such things about yourself! It’s been so hectic at work, I haven’t been able to come watch you train for a while. I’ll be there today though."
"I understand, dad. I’m glad you could make it."
"I can’t send my only child to Frankfurt alone, can I? And I also have a surprise for you."
"A surprise? What’s that?"
"It wouldn’t be a surprise anymore if I answer that question now, would it? I’ll tell you when the time comes. "
"What is he planning this time?" Lukas thought, although he was already looking forward to it.
"And Luke, to answer your previous question—you’re my son. If I don’t trust you, who should I trust?"
RING*
Javi’s phone rang, through the car’s infotainment system. Javi pressed a button on his steering wheel to answer the call.
"Hello. Javi, it’s Marco. I am at the academy right now. Are you guys nearby?"
"Hey Marco, yeah we should be there in ten minutes if the traffic stays like this." Javi responded.
"Alright then, just give me a call when you get to the entrance. I will be inside talking to some of the staff"
"Okay. See you soon."
********
"You guys are here!" Marco’s voice sounded excited as he walked over to Lukas and Javi standing at the security stop in the entrance to the Eintracht Frankfurt academy.
Lukas had on a loose beige denim shorts, a sky blue cotton T-shirt, a white plain sneakers, and a grey bucket hat shielding him from the sun.
He was looking around as they walked into the academy.
"I read about the size before I came, but it really is huge. SV98 academy is like a playground compared to it." Lukas was looking at approximately 7700 square meters of land that only the administrative building occupied.
Lukas stopped in his tracks and stared at the club’s logo—an eagle with it’s wings spread out wide.
Eintracht Frankfurt e.V.
It stirred something in him.
"It looks so bold, so confident."
[*And kinda crazy with it’s mouth open.*]
"I really like it though."
"I see you’re captivated by the Eintracht-Adler."
Lukas snapped back to reality as he looked at where the voice came from.
He saw a tall man with a receding hairline. He looked to be Southeastern European.
"Is this him?" The man asked Marco.
"Yes Ivan. This is Lukas Brandt and his father Javi Brandt." Marco responded as he introduced the man to Javi and Lukas.
"This is Ivan. He is the scout for the U17 team here in Riederwald."
"Hello Ivan, I am Javi and this is my son, Lukas."
"Hello Javi. Hello Lukas. Nice to finally meet you. Marco couldn’t stop telling me about your abilities. So now I’m curious." Ivan said as he looked at Lukas.
"Hmmm.. He doesn’t seem to have any growth problems physically. And he looks like he is match fit. I’ll have the coach test that though." Ivan thought.
"I will satisfy your curiosity on the pitch."
"Good. I like your confidence. I don’t know if Marco informed you about all you need to know, so I’ll just inform you myself. Let’s walk as we talk."
The group walked towards the administrative block heading to the head coach’s office. Lukas’ eyes were glued to the U17 training ground where some players were already ready for training and others were arriving.
"I am happy to see you so interested. You will be getting in there soon, don’t worry." Marco said as he noticed Lukas’ gaze.
"It will be a two-week training period. After the tryouts, if the coach likes what he sees in you, you will be brought in to the U17 team when the summer transfer window opens on the 1st of July. If you’re really as good as Marco claims, you won’t have a problem getting in." Ivan explained to the group.
"I will try not to let him down then." Lukas responded with a smile.
He had worked hard for this day, and he planned on working even harder during the two weeks he would be training with the U17s. He was confident he would be a totally different player in two weeks than he currently is—especially if he focuses his LTC training on his strength and attacking stats.
The staff in charge of training were gathered together in the head coach’s office for a brief review of the day’s training regimen. They discussed tactics, ironed up some details for the session, and were about to start moving, before one of the assistant coaches spoke.
"Isn’t today the day the new kid for the tryouts is coming? Is he here yet?"
"New kid? The one that was dropped from SV98 academy? Do we really need to waste our time on this?" Another assistant coach asked.
"Players can get dropped from an academy for a variety of reasons. It won’t hurt to give him a chance to see if he’s someone we can develop. It’s just a tryout."
"Who is bringing him?" a hoarse voice asked.
"It’s Mr. Kasten Coach." The first assistant replied.
"Oh Marco. Then we should give him a chance to prove himself. They should be here anytime soon. You guys should go prep for the session. I’ll join you soon."
The staff left the head coach’s office and less than five minutes later—
KNOCK KNOCK*
"Come in!"
"Hello coach. I brought the new kid." Ivan said as he introduced them.
"This is Javi Brandt and his son Lukas. You already know Marco because—who doesn’t?"
"You make it sound so weird. Hello Seb. It’s been a minute." Marco shook the coach’s hand.
"Marco. It sure has. I heard you brought me a talent this time."
"Yes, I did. You will thank me for this, I promise you." Marco responded with a smile
The coach then turned to Lukas.
"Hello young man, I am Sebastian Haag. The head coach for the U17 team here."
"Good day, coach."
"I hope you’re ready kid. Training starts in 15. Ivan here will take you to get your training bib. Let’s see what you can do out there."
"Yes sir." Lukas responded, calm as ever
"Well he doesn’t look nervous. Let’s see how he does. This should be exciting." Coach Sebastian thought as he watched the group leave his office.
