"Marax!"

Cain was clearly the one closest to that violent energy vortex. The moment Asta sensed something wrong, he couldn't help but shout, then without the slightest hesitation flew straight toward him.

At that moment, Cain was still gripping two mages who were being dragged in. He used all his strength to hurl them far away, then looked at Asta and smiled indifferently. "Little Demon, you actually dare to rush into the eye of the storm in that tiny form…"

But before he could finish speaking, a sudden tremor erupted. At the same time, countless sharp, pitch-black beams of light burst up from the ground without warning. They were so dense there was no gap between them, moving at a speed no one could react to as they shot upward! In an instant, the entire battlefield was covered.

They were razor-sharp, piercing through everything.

Bodies suspended in midair were riddled with countless holes. Fresh blood fell in an instant like a rainstorm, soaking the entire ground.

Cain was pierced through the arm and thigh, along with a stab wound near his heart. The sensation of death closing in was so vivid it was almost unimaginable.

His vision was completely obscured by countless strands of darkness. Only directly in front of him—Asta, the closest of all—remained visible. Through the crisscrossing threads of shadow, he saw Asta staring straight at him. He seemed to be trying to say something, but in the end could only cough up fresh blood, tears streaming endlessly from his eyes.

No one knew what he was crying for, but one thing was certain—those tears were not shed from pain.

And Nerio… and Dorian… what about them?

A thunderous scream suddenly rang out. Cain abruptly clenched his fist, grabbing the countless strands of darkness that had pierced through his body. In an instant, the sickening sound of flesh being sliced into fragments echoed without end.

Blood poured down in torrents, staining his beautiful dress, but very quickly the shredded flesh regenerated. Cain suddenly lifted his head, and in that instant his body began to transform at an unimaginable speed.

"Fwoosh!"

A pair of wings unfurled, like flames rising from ashes—black as raven feathers, yet so enormous they covered half the sky.

With a single sweep of his wings, all the strands of darkness shattered instantly into countless fragments. Corpses rained down upon the ground alongside the remains of the sentinels, a scene so horrifying it reeked of despair.

"Grawww!"

The Pope let out a thunderous roar. Energy gathered into his body as a massive lump of flesh swelled in an instant, seeking to devour all the blood and meat along its path!

It was so powerful that nothing could kill it—even the combined efforts of Dorian and Cain had been futile. But now, it was clear that Cain was no longer the Cain of this world.

He raised his hand. The eye upon the book that had always floated before him finally snapped open.

The book spread wide, carrying an unimaginable force. An incantation resounded, and the Pope's body began to rot at the fastest possible speed—so fast that it could barely offer any resistance other than meaningless screams.

Until nothing remained but the sound of flesh and blood flowing in sickening rivulets, Cain's black wings still blanketed the sky.

Yet the air was eerily silent. There were no cheers of victory, even though they had won—only a sky growing darker by the second and a merciless stillness.

A gust of wind rose as Cain touched down and folded his wings.

He walked forward slowly. As he passed Asta, he seemed to pause for a brief moment. However, in the end, he did not lower his head to meet Asta's still-wide-open eyes.

Many others were the same. They had died so suddenly they never had the chance to close their eyes.

Cain's destination, of course, was where Dorian and Nerio lay.

Their bodies had already become translucent, so faint they were on the verge of dissolving into light and drifting away. Cain held his breath. He reached out a hand—then did not know what to do. His devastating power of destruction suddenly felt more useless than ever before.

At that very moment, a crack suddenly appeared in the sky, like a door of light opening.

Cain instinctively lifted his eyes to look. Drake was clearly enormous, yet Cain's gaze fell on Alden first.

Faced with Cain's burning stare, Alden—who had always feared the eyes of others—did not look away this time. He merely lowered his gaze slightly, his voice tinged with anxiety and a faint sob. "I… I came too late… I'm sorry."

By then, Drake had already landed. Cain looked at Alden and suddenly smiled. "How could the one who reigns over time be defined by time? You are never late. Alden, please save them."

Deep within Matthew's world, after forcing Silvanus to leave this place, Matthew finally turned around to face the monster that had always guided him—though in his current form, he was hardly any different from that creature himself.

Strands of darkness twisted like ribbons. The creature's neck elongated, swaying back and forth as it demanded, "Wasn't everything you've done up until today for the sake of staying by your friend's side forever? What are you doing now?! You fool—only a corpse doesn't know how to run!"

Matthew couldn't help but laugh softly at that. "I was furious when Silvanus said the same thing to me, but I have to admit—it suits you quite well. From beginning to end, the only one who ever wanted to kill Silvanus was you. So don't use me as an excuse."

As he spoke, a massive scythe appeared in Matthew's hand, and he swung it straight toward the enormous, formless being before him.

The Outer God was like a wall—or perhaps merely darkness itself. Matthew began to feel as though the entire suffocating darkness here was the Outer God.

"Don't think you can turn back like this. Think of all those you've killed—you are destined for hell!" the Outer God screamed, his voice now distorted.

Matthew smiled. "That's right. Which is why I only hope you'll keep me company."

The Outer God had always tried to provoke Matthew into dragging Silvanus back. With dominion over this world, Matthew would undoubtedly have been a great help in killing Silvanus. But even now, he could only accept the truth: Matthew's true boundary was something that could never be broken.

He could do countless things—but when it came to killing Silvanus… he was completely useless!

"Die!" the Outer God shrieked furiously, his voice sharp and ear-piercing. A colossal surge of energy swept downward!

The two forces collided. The cracks spread wider and wider, and Matthew's enormous, grotesque body seemed to begin splitting apart in an instant.

He simply could not withstand this absolute power.

But at the very least… he hoped Silvanus would gain a little more time. At the very least… he hoped he could weaken the Outer God, even if only by a fraction.

"Don't die… Silvanus…"

"We won't die."

Silvanus's youthful voice rang out right beside him, startling Matthew. He turned his head, the hollow voids that were his eyes staring straight at Silvanus.

Because they were inside Matthew's world, Silvanus could not change his form—but that did not affect his strength.

Even so, returning here had clearly cost him a great deal of energy.

He frowned at Matthew and said coldly, "Next time, don't throw me away like that without asking. Understood, Matthew?"

Matthew froze, almost instinctively replying, "Understood… I understand…"

At the same moment, a brilliant light erupted—but it did not overwhelm the darkness beside it. Instead, the two entwined, amplifying one another's power.

"You are the master of this world. So take control of it, Matthew."

Matthew heard Silvanus's voice echo beside his ear.

Then came a violent tremor. An explosion shook the entire space, and suddenly everything fell into stillness. The sound had been so immense it felt as though it did not exist at all…

Only the Outer God's scream rang out with terrifying clarity.

And clearer still—

was the sound of his own body cracking apart into countless fragments…
