Chapter 231: Handling the Emperor

Back when Fenrir dragged Greed out of the throne room.

"Arianne!" Eve rushed to her knight’s side, gently picking her up.

Greed’s hit had left Arianne’s body just as broken as Eve’s. However, due to their differences in experience, she managed to mitigate her injuries—albeit marginally compared to Eve—clinging to life by a fragile thread.

Without wasting any time, Eve fed her a potion—one Ultimate Recovery Potion, just in case.

Instantly, Arianne’s body healed, leaving her battered and dented armor as the only remnant of the near-fatal injury she had suffered.

"Ugh... I can’t... breathe..."

Arianne sat up and quickly unfastened her armor’s clasp.

As soon as she did, the dented parts that had been constricting her body loosened... a few items bounced free, but no one was interested enough to care or watch.

"Ria and Nina?" she asked, her voice laced with worry.

Eve frowned, shaking her head slowly. "I don’t know. But I sent Navi to them, so they should be fine..."

"That’s good..."

Upon hearing that they might be safe, Arianne sighed in relief—only for her eyes to narrow again. She raised her hand, catching a flying mana arrow aimed at her, and crushed it into oblivion.

"Looks like we’ve got company..." she whispered, annoyed.

After Greed’s appearance, Nina’s curse, the Curse of the Mirror Maze, had been dispelled. Not only that, but even the sleeping curses they had cast were completely destroyed. This meant that the soldiers, who had previously been unable to move, could now come to this place and protect those they could.

Or at least, what remained of them.

"The pig emperor is..."

Eve whispered, staring back at the throne, now quite a distance away.

Thankfully, the coward remained on his throne where he felt "safer." This allowed Eve and the others to continue their task without having to chase him down.

"Wait..." Only then did Eve realize something. "Where are Sophia and the other two?"

"Shit!"

Even Arianne couldn’t help but curse in panic. In their focus on the immediate crisis, they had completely forgotten about the three!

"They didn’t die, did they?"

Eve recalled the powerful wave of killing intent Greed had unleashed, which had likely taken the lives of most present, near, or far. Sophia, Tiffany, and Rico were roughly equal in strength, so it was highly likely they had perished under that onslaught!

Of course, while the two were talking...

"Shoot! Don’t let up the heat!"

"Cast your spells, fire your bows, slash with your swords!"

"Attack whenever you’re ready! Don’t let these insurgents get close to his majesty!"

As time passed, more soldiers arrived, forming a blockade between them and the throne. Initially, these soldiers had no intention of killing, but now they were undeniably in the way.

Unless they were killed or rendered unconscious, they would certainly fight back. That was their duty, after all.

"Arianne... Clear the path."

Eve commanded, kneeling in place with her sniper rifle at the ready. "I need a clean shot."

Arianne smiled, already dismissing her recent brush with death.

"As you wish, Princess Eve!"

Without a sword, she charged forward, swinging her open palm as if slicing through the air. Her hand collided with a soldier’s blade, which attempted to block her strike... but...

SPLASH!

The man’s body and his sword were split diagonally.

Arianne’s palm didn’t catch a single drop of blood, but the enemy before her lay in pieces. "Next!" she called, smiling fiercely as she targeted the next closest foe.

Meanwhile, the long-range soldiers continued their relentless assault.

Arrows, spells, and even rocks rained down. They did everything they could to inflict damage on her and Eve. But their efforts were futile. Arianne caught every projectile, not allowing a single stone to reach her liege.

"Hiik!"

Witnessing blood splattering like a fountain and the gruesome corpses left in Arianne’s wake, the remaining soldiers hesitated.

Arianne seized the opportunity.

With a powerful step forward—enough to crack the floor—she swung her arm across. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

In that instant, everyone within ten meters was bisected, weapons and all. Some died instantly from shock, while others remained conscious with half of their bodies missing, enduring a different kind of hell before they succumbed.

Arianne leaped to the side and turned to Eve. "Alright, I cleared the path, Princess!"

Eve remained silent.

She was deeply focused.

As soon as she saw the path was clear, she acted without hesitation. Her scope was already trained on the fat Emperor in her crosshairs, and she pulled the trigger without waiting.

BANG!

A thundering sound echoed as a red, flaming bullet crossed the void.

Emperor Cyril, seated on his throne, caught sight of the flash. Before he could react, the bullet struck him squarely on the forehead, sending his head reeling backward. Blood spurted from the wound, but it was only skin-deep.

On the other end, Eve experienced a similar injury, as if it were an inevitable consequence. Her forehead bled momentarily before the HP Tank healed her in an instant.

The pain lingered, but the injury had vanished!

Clack!

Of course, it didn’t end there.

She loaded another bullet and fired again!

This time, it struck the exact same spot as before, as if the bullet were being drawn to it.

"Ack!"

Emperor Cyril went pale.

He could feel his skull creaking from the impact! The pain was like a migraine but concentrated right in the center of his forehead instead of on the sides.

With a few more shots and his injuries persisting—unlike Eve, who healed instantly—it was clear what was about to happen. He would die from the damage he was taking before Eve could!

’No...!’

This fear spurred him on.

Finally, he jumped off his throne and sprinted down the hall, away from Eve and Arianne. He was frantic, like a bee that had lost its nest, his face pale with panic as he scurried away.

BANG!

"...!"

But, of course, there was no escaping.

Eve struck the back of his head with precision, causing him to tumble forward, face-first into the ground. Blood trickled from his nose as a result of the impact.

To make matters worse, he had fallen just beyond the "edge" of the Throne’s protection.

"Perfect."

A voice called out as a black mist enveloped the fat man.

The voice belonged to Ria, who stepped forward with a smile. "Now, you can’t escape."
