Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Lunatic

Nina Thorne froze and looked back.

Justin Kane was standing behind her, dressed as always in a custom-tailored suit from Valoria.

His figure was tall and straight, his bearing extraordinary. He possessed a noble, elegant grace that made him seem almost godlike.

Nina Thorne reined in all her emotions, her expression visibly turning to ice. "What are you doing here?"

Justin Kane’s heart clenched. He balled his fists, his voice low. "I came to see your grandfather."

"There’s no need. You can leave."

Nina Thorne’s attitude was frigid, her cold gaze making him feel like a stranger.

Justin Kane didn’t want to leave. His somber gaze fell on Nina Thorne’s face. "Nina, do you really hate me this much?"

’Hate?’

Nina Thorne stood up to face him as if she’d just heard the most ridiculous joke in the world, clenching her jaw.

"If it weren’t for you, Grandfather wouldn’t be lying in a hospital bed.

Justin Kane, when you denied it that day, did you spare a single thought for me, or for my grandfather?"

"Fine. Then tell me, what ’difficult circumstances’ did you have that night that made you go back on your word in front of so many people?"

"Since you were going to break your promise anyway, why did you even bother taking me to meet the Kane Family beforehand?

You could have just divorced me and been done with it. Why did you... give me hope, only to let me down again?"

In the end, Nina Thorne couldn’t hold back the barrage of questions.

She wanted to hear what he had to say, but Justin Kane’s brow was tightly furrowed, and he didn’t offer a single word of defense.

He lowered his gaze, his eyelashes trembling. "Some things are complicated, Nina. I never wanted to hurt you, and I certainly didn’t want to hurt your grandfather."

In the end, he just wouldn’t explain.

’So there were no "difficult circumstances" after all...’

Nina Thorne’s heart felt as if it had plunged into an icy cellar, so cold that she began to shiver.

She couldn’t stand the sight of Justin Kane for another second. Stiffening her neck and clenching her fists, she said, "Leave. I don’t want to see you, and Grandfather wouldn’t want to see you either."

"Nina..." Justin Kane’s Adam’s apple bobbed, a dark glint in his eyes.

But Nina Thorne didn’t want to say another word to him. She turned her back, refusing to look at him.

"Justin Kane, I have nothing to say to you."

Justin Kane showed no sign of leaving. "What are you planning to do about Cole Kane and Serena Kane?"

Nina Thorne’s lips twisted into a derisive smile as she turned back to him. "Are you here to plead for them? Or do the Kane Family think I can be magnanimous enough to forgive everyone who’s ever hurt me?"

"I want to help you..."

Justin Kane tried to explain, but a sharp pain lanced through Nina Thorne’s chest. Overcome with emotion, she cut him off, "I don’t need your help! Get out!"

For some reason, just hearing his voice set her off, making her reaction especially intense.

She had thought her heart could no longer feel pain, but seeing him again, hearing his voice, it was wracked with an unbearable agony.

It was as if someone had brutally stabbed her several times, leaving her bleeding and breathless with pain.

"Get out, just get out! I don’t want to see you again."

Seeing that Justin Kane had no intention of leaving, Nina Thorne walked right up and pushed him out of the room.

Although Justin Kane tried to explain, Nina Thorne didn’t spare him another glance.

"Leave. And don’t let me see you again."

Nina Thorne slammed the door shut and leaned her back against it.

’I was so loud just now. I hope I didn’t disturb Grandfather.’

But in the next second, she found herself wishing she had woken him up. If only she could.

Justin Kane stood outside the door.

The hand at his side was clenched into a fist. He stared at the closed door, his heart twisting with each passing moment.

Mr. Dawson walked over. "Mr. Kane, you should probably go. Master Thorne is still unconscious, and the young miss is under a lot of stress and not in a good mood. Your presence will only upset her."

Compared to Nina Thorne, Mr. Dawson was relatively calm.

But he clearly blamed Justin Kane. ’Why did things have to turn out this way?’

Nina Thorne returned to the bedside, taking Master Thorne’s hand and pressing it against her cheek, her eyes red. "Grandfather, please wake up, okay? I’m so scared..."

"I’m begging you, please wake up. Whatever you want me to learn, I’ll learn it.

As long as you wake up, I’ll listen to you, I’ll do anything, okay?

Grandfather, I was so wrong. I shouldn’t have been so willful, I shouldn’t have been so blinded by love, and I especially shouldn’t have lived so humbly for the sake of that so-called love." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Tears streamed down Nina Thorne’s cheeks, her heart filled with regret.

"Grandfather, I’m so sorry. I’m the one who hurt you. It’s all my fault."

Nina Thorne clutched her grandfather’s hand to her forehead, sobbing uncontrollably, her heart clenching painfully as she cried herself breathless.

The light spilled over her, shrouding her in a deep sorrow.

By the time she had cried her feelings out, it was very late.

Nina Thorne finally went downstairs to leave.

As she walked out of the hospital building, she saw a tall, well-built man standing not far away.

It was Jason Graham.

He was standing perfectly still, as if he were waiting specifically for her.

Nina Thorne’s steps faltered for a moment before she strode over to him, her expression chilling. "Are you following me?"

Jason Graham gave her an amused glance. "This is a hospital, Miss Thorne. You really think I’d follow you here?"

Nina Thorne didn’t believe him, but she didn’t want to waste her breath arguing. "You’d better not be."

The words had barely left her mouth.

When a figure rushed over from the side, a shrill voice cursing, "Nina Thorne, you bitch! What did you say to Justin? He’s avoiding me now."

"Where is he? Where the hell did he go? Tell me!"

The once high-and-mighty April Graham was now acting like a complete shrew in front of her.

Her previous arrogance had vanished in an instant.

Nina Thorne dodged her attack, stepping back just in time to avoid getting hurt by April Graham.

"Your precious Justin is missing. What does that have to do with me?"

"You must be the one pulling strings behind the scenes! That’s why Justin won’t see me! You bitch, give him back to me," April Graham shrieked, losing her mind.

Looking at her now, Nina Thorne’s face was cold. She hadn’t forgotten for a second how triumphant April had been on the night of the birthday banquet.

The moment Justin Kane had denied her, April Graham had worn the expression of a victor, her smile a poisoned thorn wrapped around Nina’s entire heart.

Nina suppressed her feelings, having no desire to say anything to April Graham at all.

She glared at Jason Graham. "You two are really something else, showing up just to ruin my day."

Jason Graham held up his hands, the picture of innocence. "Hey, not me. I had no idea she was going to come looking for you."

Nina Thorne turned to leave.

April Graham lunged, trying to grab her. "Don’t you go anywhere! You bitch, explain yourself!"

Jason Graham grabbed her arm firmly, his eyes sharp. "What is wrong with you now? Acting like you’re going to die just because you can’t find your man."

April Graham struggled but couldn’t break free. Seeing him protecting Nina Thorne, she flew into a rage. "You’d better remember your place! You’re my brother, and you’re helping that bitch and yelling at me?"

Jason Graham scoffed. "Sister? Acting like this... aren’t you ashamed of yourself?"

April Graham’s face turned red with anger. "What did you say?"

Jason Graham looked at Nina Thorne. "See? This has nothing to do with me."

Nina Thorne rolled her eyes at him and continued to walk away.

April Graham was desperate to chase her but couldn’t break free from Jason Graham’s grip, so she just started screaming obscenities.

"You bitch, don’t you walk away! Explain yourself!"

"You’re not good enough for Justin, so why do you keep clinging to him? He doesn’t want you anymore! He didn’t want to acknowledge you at all that night, yet you’re still shamelessly pestering him. You’re disgusting!"

Nina Thorne’s steps came to an abrupt halt.

The events of that night were like a dense thicket of thorns piercing her heart.

April Graham sneered triumphantly. "Justin loves me. You’d better stay far away from him, or you’ll be nothing but a homewrecker."

Nina Thorne took a deep breath, turned to face her, and gave her a cold, mocking look. "The fact that you have to come find me like this proves he doesn’t love you. You call me disgusting? Look at you. You’re just pathetic."

With that, she turned and walked away again.

April Graham was about to go insane with rage. She viciously bit Jason Graham, shoved him away, and lunged like a madwoman.

"You bitch! How dare you insult me! I’ll kill you!"

Sensing the danger, Nina Thorne sidestepped just in time.

As a result, April Graham went flying forward with a SWOOSH, falling hard on the ground.

Seeing this, Jason Graham felt a headache coming on. He lowered his head and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

’I should just send her back to the mental hospital.’

Nina Thorne didn’t dare to imagine how badly she would have fallen if she hadn’t dodged.

But she had done foolish things like that far too many times before.

’From now on, if anyone’s going to get hurt, it should be someone else.’

April Graham’s palms were scraped and bleeding. She sat up, trembling with rage, and began to scream hysterically.

"Nina Thorne, I swear, it’s either you or me!"

Nina Thorne frowned, finding the whole scene utterly ridiculous.

In the next second.

Justin Kane’s figure strode quickly to her side. "Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice tense.

Nina Thorne froze when she saw him.

’He didn’t leave?’

"You should be asking if *she’s* okay."

Nina Thorne took a step back, putting distance between them, her expression aloof and cold. "Do me a favor and handle your own romantic entanglements. Don’t let this kind of thing happen in front of me ever again."

With that, she strode away, not wanting to spare him another glance.

Justin Kane’s pupils contracted. His Adam’s apple bobbed a few times, but he didn’t follow her.

Seeing Justin Kane, April Graham scrambled to her feet excitedly. "Justin, you’re finally here! Why is it that you only show up when I’m confronting her?"

Her brow was furrowed in a mask of pain and confusion.

Justin Kane didn’t seem to hear a word she said, his gaze locked on Nina Thorne’s retreating figure.

He watched her get into a car and drive away, not looking away until even the taillights had vanished from sight.

He turned his glare on April Graham, his eyes dark with fury. "I told you, don’t come and harass her."

April Graham stared at him in disbelief. "Justin, we’ve known each other for so many years, we’ve been through so much together, and you’re talking to me like this for that woman?"

She asked painfully, "Is she really that important to you? Is she really so worthy of your love?"

"Yes!"

A sarcastic curve formed on Justin Kane’s thin lips. "She’s not worthy? Then are you?"

"April Graham, the biggest regret of my life is that you once saved me."

April Graham looked as if she’d been struck by lightning, frozen to the spot.

After a long moment, she asked through her tears, "Do you... hate me that much?"

Jason Graham stood with his hands on his hips, his head bowed. His tall, strong frame was filled with a sense of helplessness.

Justin Kane shot him a cold glance before fixing his gaze back on April Graham. "April Graham, if you’re sick, you need to get treatment."

April Graham instantly looked as if she were being choked, unable to say a word.

Her eyes were bloodshot as she cried out, "What did I do wrong? Why are you treating me like this for that woman?!"

Justin Kane couldn’t take it anymore. He gritted his teeth. "What you should never have done, for your own selfish desires, was try to hurt her."

April Graham felt a surge of despair, her bloodshot eyes filled with resentment. "You know what I have. It’s enough to make her break down..."

Before she could finish her sentence.

Justin Kane’s hand shot out and grabbed her by the neck. His eyes were dark and merciless, as if he could snap her neck with a single squeeze.
