Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 21: I’ll Personally Teach Them a Lesson
Cole Kane pinned Nina Thorne’s head down. She couldn’t straighten up, and the pain shooting through her knee, which had only just started to heal, was so bad her teeth were chattering.
"Cole Kane," Nina Thorne’s voice came out strained and hoarse, as if clawed from her throat. "You promised my father you’d take good care of me. Is this what you’re doing now? Trampling all over me?"
At her words, Cole Kane’s expression wavered, and the pressure from his hand eased considerably.
Seeing this, Serena Kane quickly interjected, "Nina Thorne, Cole has taken care of you and doted on you for so many years. It’s one thing to be ungrateful, but now you’re using the late Mr. Thorne to pressure him? That’s going too far."
Cole Kane had always hated it when Nina Thorne brought up her father. It made him feel coerced.
’If it weren’t for the fact that his grandfather liked Nina Thorne, that they had been together for years, and that she was always so obedient, he probably would have broken up with her long ago.’
"Shut your mouth." Hearing Serena Kane mention her father, Nina Thorne’s anger flared. She forced her head up, her face a mask of cold fury. "You have no right to mention my father. The thought of you even saying his name makes me sick."
"Nina Thorne, do you really hate me that much?" Serena turned to Cole. "Cole, look at her. Why can’t she stand the sight of me?"
"If I’d known this would happen, I never should have come back. Then you wouldn’t have to hate me so much." Serena Kane lowered her head, looking wronged and on the verge of tears.
Cole Kane’s heart ached for Serena. In a fit of rage, he shoved Nina Thorne’s head down again. "You’re completely hopeless! Apologize to her properly. Don’t you dare stop until Serena forgives you."
"Cole Kane, let me go..." Nina Thorne struggled.
The more she struggled, the harder Cole Kane pushed, as if trying to force her head through the floor. It felt like her neck was about to snap.
In that moment, Nina Thorne hated Cole Kane with every fiber of her being.
’This was the man she had loved for five years, and yet, for the sake of his so-called sister, he would hurt her again and again without a second thought.’
"Nina Thorne, you’ll kneel here and apologize properly," Cole Kane said, pressing down on her head. No matter how much she struggled, it was useless.
Serena Kane watched Nina Thorne struggle fruitlessly, a sinister smile creeping across her delicate features.
She glanced at the thermos on the nightstand, a vicious glint in her eye.
Suddenly, there was a cry of "AH!"
The thermos fell from the stand, its lid coming loose and spilling hot water everywhere.
Nina Thorne cried out, "AH!" The hand she had braced on the floor was splashed by the hot water, and a large patch of skin instantly turned red.
"Nina Thorne..." Cole Kane was stunned.
Just then, the door to the hospital room was pushed open.
A figure strode into the room, just in time to witness the scene.
He saw Nina Thorne kneeling on the floor, her hair a mess, her head still being held down by Cole Kane. Beside her, steam rose from the spilled hot water of an overturned thermos.
The back of Nina Thorne’s hand was scalded bright red. The sight caused Justin Kane’s cold eyes to instantly turn menacing.
"Nina Thorne."
Justin Kane crossed the room in a few strides, rage blazing in his chest, and threw a heavy punch at Cole Kane.
The punch was so powerful it sent Cole Kane stumbling back onto the hospital bed.
Serena Kane cried out, "Cole! Big Brother, how could you hit Cole?"
Justin Kane shot Serena Kane a vicious glare that made her flinch and look away.
Then, Justin Kane knelt and helped Nina Thorne up. The menace in his eyes vanished, replaced by profound concern. "Nina Thorne, are you okay?"
Nina was in so much pain she was trembling, cold sweat beading on her forehead. "Justin Kane, you’re here."
Her voice was choked with a sob. She cradled her wrist, afraid to move it in the slightest. Her eyes welled with tears of grievance, making for a truly heartbreaking sight.
A sharp pang shot through Justin Kane’s chest.
’He’d only been gone for a little while, and she was already being bullied like this?’
"Big Brother, you actually hit me for Nina Thorne?"
Cole Kane got up from the bed and pointed furiously at Nina Thorne, who was now in Justin Kane’s arms. "She’s arrogant and spoiled! She deserved to get hurt. Maybe now that she’s learned her lesson, she’ll start acting right..."
"Shut your mouth!"
Justin Kane’s frigid gaze shot toward Cole like a dagger. "I’ll deal with you later."
Justin Kane bent down and scooped Nina Thorne into his arms, then sharply commanded, "Watch them!"
With that, he carried Nina Thorne and quickly left the room to find a doctor.
「...」
「In the surgical treatment room.」
A doctor had Nina Thorne soak her hand in cold water for thirty minutes. After the pain subsided, they applied a layer of burn cream and wrapped it in sterile gauze.
The doctor gave Justin Kane some instructions. "If it starts to blister or the skin breaks, bring her back to the hospital for treatment immediately."
"Understood, Doctor." Justin Kane nodded, his gaze immediately falling back to Nina Thorne beside him.
The doctor left the treatment room, and Assistant Cheney tactfully followed him out.
"Does it still hurt?" Justin Kane’s deep eyes were filled with an aching tenderness, and his voice was unbelievably gentle.
Remembering how Nina Thorne had been in so much pain she’d broken out in a cold sweat, Justin Kane’s chest tightened again.
’Damn that Cole Kane. How could he treat her like that?’
’She must be devastated, poor girl.’
Nina Thorne shook her head and said it was bearable.
The pain had left her feeling completely drained, but a deep-seated hatred now surfaced in her eyes. "Justin Kane."
She sat on the edge of the treatment cot and looked up into Justin Kane’s eyes, asking tentatively, "If I said Serena Kane did it on purpose, would you believe me?"
’Cole Kane was detestable.’
’But Serena Kane deserved to die!’
While she was struggling, she had caught a glimpse of Serena Kane deliberately pushing the thermos off the stand.
She had been kneeling less than a meter from the nightstand. It was obvious Serena Kane had done it on purpose.
"I believe you," Justin Kane said without a moment’s hesitation, his expression both gentle and firm.
Nina Thorne froze for a few seconds.
She asked, "Don’t you think I might be falsely accusing her?"
Her small face was tilted up, her gaze fixed cautiously on Justin Kane.
So used to being doubted, her heart was in her throat, terrified that he would question her words.
Then, Justin Kane’s gentle but firm voice rang out, "You’re not that kind of person. You wouldn’t stoop to something like that."
"Besides," Justin Kane’s tone was forceful and domineering, "I’ve told you before: even if you were in the wrong, I would make it so you were in the right." He took a handkerchief from his suit pocket and gently wiped the beads of sweat from her forehead.
He was like the winter sun, shining into Nina Thorne’s heart and warming her entire body.
Nina Thorne’s heart began to race. This feeling, of being protected so unconditionally, made her heart ache and her eyes well up.
After a long moment, she managed a slight smile. "Thank you, Justin Kane."
She suddenly realized that Justin Kane, the man who had always been so cold toward her and so heartless toward the world, could also be this gentle.
’Is it because... we’re married?’
’That must be it,’ she thought.
’Justin Kane was always fiercely protective of his own, so he was protecting her unconditionally.’
"I’ll have Assistant Cheney take you home first. I’ll get even for what happened today on your behalf," Justin Kane said, helping her down from the cot.
"No, I’m going with you," Nina Thorne insisted. "If we’re going to get even, I want to do it myself."
Justin Kane looked at her. Her lovely face, with its porcelain-smooth skin, was now filled with rage. Her beautiful eyes shone brightly, her chin was slightly raised, and her gaze held a newfound, unwavering determination.
"Alright. I’ll have your back." The corner of Justin Kane’s mouth curved into a smile, his deep eyes filled with doting affection.
Nina Thorne didn’t notice. She strode out of the treatment room and headed straight for the hospital room.
BANG!
The door to the room was thrown open.
Nina Thorne stood in the doorway, wrapped in a piercing aura like a queen in her full power, and stepped into the room.
Cole Kane froze.
When Serena Kane saw her enter, her heart lurched, and her hands instinctively clutched the bedding.
