Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Don’t Be Anxious, You’ll Soon Know Who I Am

In a rush of blood to the head, Nina Thorne was so flustered by his teasing that her face turned bright red. Biting her inner lip, she stood on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek.

"There, happy now?"

After the quick peck, she tried to leave.

Justin Kane’s pupils slowly dilated, and a corner of his icy gaze seemed to melt.

He swiftly pulled her into his arms, his large hand cupping the back of her head. Lowering his face, his warm, moist breath washed over her cheek with a captivating allure. "How could one be enough?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

With that, Justin Kane dipped his head lower, his thin lips almost touching hers, which were pink and glossy. Their breaths intertwined.

His gaze was scorching, like a predator that had been stalking its prey for a long time.

Nina Thorne held her breath.

Her cheeks grew hot, and her heart felt like it was about to burst from her chest. Just as she felt she was about to suffocate, Justin Kane finally let her go.

Nina Thorne’s heart pounded violently. She looked at him with misty eyes, like a kitten that had been thoroughly bullied.

She asked weakly, "So... does that mean you agree?"

Justin Kane’s eyes held a restrained look as the corners of his lips curved into a smile. "Of course I’ll satisfy my wife’s request."

Hearing this, Nina Thorne averted her gaze and hastily fled.

’Just now, I felt a strange heat rush through my body... as if I was having some kind of reaction...’

Watching her flee, Justin Kane couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh, his eyes growing even darker.

’This girl. She’s usually like a feisty little wildcat, but on the inside, she’s a little lamb, easy to bully.’

’Her outward appearance is just protective coloring.’

...

「Two days later.」

Nina Thorne brought Justin Kane back to the Thorne family home.

"Grandpa."

Dressed in a light-colored dress, Nina Thorne stood primly before Master Thorne, her legs together. "This is Justin Kane, the one I told you about," she said, introducing him.

Master Thorne looked at Justin Kane standing beside her and nodded with a satisfied smile. "Good. Not bad at all."

Justin Kane, handsome and refined, with a steady and courteous demeanor, said, "Grandpa, here is a small gift to mark our first meeting."

Ben Cheney brought the gifts in one by one, placed them on the long table, and then exited.

The table was soon piled high with expensive nutritional supplements and fine liquors.

Clearly, a lot of thought had gone into choosing these gifts.

Master Thorne, dressed in a dark red Tang suit, laughed heartily. "Now that you and Nina are married, you’re family. There’s no need to be such a stranger."

"It’s only proper. One shouldn’t neglect etiquette," Justin Kane replied, his speech and mannerisms exuding refinement.

With just one glance, Master Thorne knew that Nina Thorne had chosen the right man this time.

Years ago, Nina Thorne’s father, Orson Thorne, had been gravely ill. Worried that Nina would have no one to look after her in the future, he entrusted her to the care of his long-time friend and business partner, Ethan Kane, and even intended for their families to be joined by marriage.

That year, Nina Thorne was eighteen and had just started a relationship with Cole Kane.

Before he passed away, Orson Thorne had told her to stay with Cole Kane and make it work.

Cole Kane had even promised Orson Thorne that he would cherish Nina Thorne for a lifetime.

Who would have thought that the two families would indeed be joined by marriage as planned?

But the groom had changed from the younger brother to the older brother, Justin Kane.

Master Thorne instructed, "Nina, go to the ancestral hall and offer a stick of incense for your grandmother and parents. Justin and I will have a chat."

Nina Thorne glanced worriedly at Justin Kane, hesitating to agree.

’Grandpa has a habit of giving people a hard time.’

Cole Kane had often been on the receiving end of his difficult questions, and not only feared Grandpa but actively resented him.

In the few days Nina Thorne had spent with Justin Kane, she’d learned that although he could be sharp-tongued at times, he was also a considerate person—a good candidate for a husband.

Since they had a flash marriage, Nina Thorne didn’t want to drag him into any trouble.

Seeing her hesitation, Master Thorne teased, "What’s this, girl? Are you afraid I’m going to bully your husband?"p>

Nina Thorne’s face instantly turned red.

Justin Kane let out a light chuckle and turned his head to her. "It’s fine. I’ll chat with Grandpa for a bit. You can go."

Only then did Nina Thorne nod and head to the ancestral hall to offer incense.

After placing the incense stick, Nina Thorne took a clean handkerchief and began wiping her mother’s memorial tablet.

Ever since she was little, she had been showered with love by her family.

Her mother would always stroke her head gently and say lovingly, "Nina is the apple of our family’s eye. She should live a happy and carefree life..."

"She deserves all the best things in the world. She’s our precious darling."

’That’s right...’

’I was the family’s treasure, yet Cole Kane always made me miserable, treating me with disdain and disgust.’

Nina Thorne felt so unfilial.

’If they saw how I acted in front of Cole Kane, as pathetic as a little puppy begging for scraps, they would have been heartbroken.’

Thinking of this, Nina Thorne’s eyes reddened, and a tear dripped onto the memorial tablet. "Mom, I’m so useless..."

Overwhelmed with grief, she hugged the tablet, squatted down, and cried like a child.

When she didn’t return for a long time, Justin Kane had a servant show him the way and happened to walk in on this very scene.

Hearing her heartbreaking sobs, Justin Kane’s heart tightened. He rushed over, helped her up, and anxiously pulled her into his arms.

"Shh, don’t cry. Don’t be sad."

Justin Kane assumed she was just missing them terribly. He coaxed her with heartfelt sympathy, "I’ll take good care of you from now on. Let me cherish you in their place, okay?"

Hearing this, Nina Thorne only cried harder.

Justin Kane placed the memorial tablet back in its spot and held her tighter. It felt as if a hole had been torn open in his chest.

He held her until Nina Thorne had cried herself out and was leaning limply against him. Then, he bent down, lifted her into his arms, and carried her out of the ancestral hall, leaving the Thorne family home.

Before they left, he specifically instructed the servant to hide what had just happened, so as not to worry Master Thorne.

In the car, Nina Thorne finally composed herself.

Her nose and eyes were red from crying, and her voice was still thick with tears. "Justin Kane, thank you."

Justin Kane sat to her left, his gaze gentle as he looked at her. "If you really want to thank me, then be happy."

"Being happy is what’s most important."

Hearing those words, Nina Thorne felt as if she were waking from a dream.

In the past, Cole Kane had told her, "Nina Thorne, no one is going to spoil you forever. You need to learn to compromise and be more tolerant, or we’ll break up sooner or later."

Nina Thorne nodded, a sense of relief washing over her. She suddenly realized that the Justin Kane she had once feared was countless times better than Cole Kane.

...

Back at the villa, Nina Thorne took a shower first.

While Justin Kane was showering in the bathroom, Nina Thorne’s phone rang. It was an unknown number from a local area code.

Without much thought, she swiped to answer. Cole Kane’s furious voice came through the phone, "Nina Thorne, have you had enough of your tantrum yet?"

"You blocked my number, blocked me on WeChat, and you won’t even go home. What the hell are you trying to do?"

They hadn’t spoken in days, and now that they were, Nina Thorne felt nothing but disgust for his voice. "Don’t forget, we already broke up."

"Whether I go home or not has nothing to do with you."

Cole Kane was stunned for a moment. In the past, their cold shoulders wouldn’t last more than a few hours. All he had to do was coax her a little, and everything would be fine again.

This time, Nina Thorne’s attitude made Cole Kane uneasy. He softened his tone. "Fine, I admit I went a little too far by not showing up to get the marriage license."

"I’m apologizing to you. Stop throwing a fit, okay?"

Nina Thorne sneered, "Are you deaf? We. Broke. Up. Don’t call me again."

"Nina Thorne, don’t push your luck," Cole Kane growled.

Nina Thorne couldn’t be bothered with him and was about to hang up.

Suddenly, the bathroom door opened.

Nina Thorne heard the sound and looked over.

She saw Justin Kane walk out with only a bath towel wrapped around his waist. The sight of his defined V-line abs made her completely forget to hang up the phone.

"Whose call is that?" Justin Kane walked closer, raising a cool eyebrow and glancing at the phone screen, asking a question to which he already knew the answer.

Nina Thorne’s gaze was fixed on his well-defined pectoral muscles, and for a moment, she was completely dazed.

On the other end of the line, however, Cole Kane heard a man’s voice and his mind exploded. He roared at her, "Nina Thorne, is there a man with you? Who is he?"

Justin Kane took the phone from Nina Thorne’s hand, a cold glimmer appearing in the depths of his eyes. "Don’t be anxious. You’ll find out who I am soon enough."
