Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 92: Her Time to Die
Admittedly, Nina Thorne was tempted for a moment.
But she still didn’t want to know. "I don’t want to."
"But don’t worry, I’ll meet with you."
Nina Thorne’s expression and tone were equally cold. "This is the last time I’m seeing you."
A life debt, after all, had to be repaid.
No matter how much she hated Cole Kane, he had indeed saved her all those years ago.
But she wouldn’t let this debt be used against her time and again.
Just this once, and never again.
-
Before she returned to her room, Justin Kane was still in the study.
When Nina Thorne came out after washing up, he had just returned to the bedroom, a gentle, tender affection lingering in his features.
"Brushed your teeth? Wait for me. I’ll join you in bed after I wash up."
He was like a doting father, gentle and patient.
But when Nina Thorne thought about him having someone he loved, a knot formed in her chest.
But she didn’t dwell on it.
’I don’t care what he’s thinking. As long as he cares about me, that’s enough.’
So when Justin Kane lay down and asked if she wanted him to hold her as they slept, Nina Thorne didn’t hesitate to snuggle into his arms.
"We’re a married couple, so we should sleep in each other’s arms. I’m just exercising my spousal rights."
She sounded like a self-righteous little tyrant.
In reality, this had become their recent routine.
She was used to it, and she liked it.
Justin Kane squeezed her slender shoulders and let out a low, magnetic, doting chuckle. "You’re right, Nina Thorne."
"However..."
"However what?"
Seeing him hesitate, Nina Thorne lifted her head from his chest and stared at him without blinking.
Justin Kane’s jawline was exquisite, his features sharp and well-defined. His handsome face, magnified before her, was breathtaking.
The sight made her heart flutter.
’So handsome!’
"When will you let me exercise my spousal rights, too?" Justin Kane’s breath ghosted across her cheek, warm, moist, and intimate.
Nina Thorne instantly understood his meaning, and her cheeks flushed hot.
But the thought of the woman he loved uncontrollably surfaced in her mind, and she suppressed the tide of emotion swelling in her heart.
"I’m so sleepy. Let’s just sleep," she said, looking for an excuse to escape.
She hurriedly closed her eyes, wrapped her arms around his lean waist, and buried her head in his chest again.
Justin Kane couldn’t help but chuckle, his magnetic laughter bewitching her senses. "Go to sleep, Nina Thorne."
"I can wait for you, but don’t make me wait too long."
His voice rumbled softly from above her head, gentle yet laced with extreme restraint and a hint of heartache.
Nina Thorne really was sleepy now, and she drifted off to the sound of his heartbeat.
His voice was like a lullaby. She heard the sound without processing the words, gradually sinking into a deep sleep.
-
The next afternoon, Nina Thorne went to a coffee shop to meet Cole Kane.
The coffee shop was near the hospital.
Cole Kane said that Serena Kane, fearing disfigurement, was in the hospital having her injuries monitored.
He said he didn’t dare go too far since she was so anxious.
’Just listen to that.’ 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Even though the truth about Serena Kane going abroad three years ago had come to light.
No matter how angry Cole Kane was, he still doted on Serena Kane and couldn’t bring himself to truly blame her.
Meanwhile, she, the one who had been wrongly accused, was still apparently the one at fault.
Her mistake was taking it so seriously, insisting on exposing Serena Kane for who she really was.
However, Nina Thorne no longer cared one bit about Cole Kane’s attitude.
"I ordered you a latte, your favorite." Cole Kane’s eyes were full of tenderness as he watched her sit down.
’He must think he’s being such an affectionate and considerate man right now, and that I’m just the one who doesn’t know how to appreciate it.’
Nina Thorne stated coolly, "I like black coffee."
After speaking, she called over a waiter and ordered a hot black coffee.
She had always loved black coffee.
It helped with puffiness, and she found the taste addictive.
As for why Cole Kane thought she liked lattes...
It was probably because on one chance occasion, she had tried a specialty latte on a whim in front of him.
And he just assumed she loved it.
Cole Kane’s brow furrowed slightly. "Do you hate me so much now that you’d even deny what you love to drink right in front of me?"
Nina Thorne glanced up at him, not even interested in arguing.
"It’s not important. Just say it. What did you want to see me about?"
Cole Kane could feel her coldness, a stark contrast to her past passion.
It especially made him feel that she truly had no feelings for him anymore.
’But Nina Thorne had loved him for five years. How could she decide to break up just because he didn’t show up to get the marriage license?’
Cole Kane refused to believe it. "Black coffee doesn’t taste good. You should add some sugar or milk."
He advised Nina Thorne.
Nina Thorne gave him a lazy glance, inwardly finding the situation laughable.
’Look at him.’
’He was sitting right here in the coffee shop; he could have just asked the waiter for sugar and milk. But all he did was tell me what to do, acting as if he were being so thoughtful. It was all just empty words.’
It was just like when she’d tell him she had a cold, and he’d say, "Take some medicine, drink more hot water."
If she said she was hurt, he’d ask how she could have been so careless and tell her to take care of the wound.
His concern was pure lip service, with no heart and no action to back it up.
It was even more superficial than a casual "How are you?"
And yet, Nina Thorne used to think this was a sign of love.
Pushing aside the laughable memories, Nina Thorne asked coolly, "Did you ask me here using the life debt because you want me to repay you?"
"Are you like Miss Yates, trying to leverage that favor? Do you want me to plead with Justin Kane on your behalf, to help you get your position as president of the branch company back?"
Hearing this, Cole Kane’s frown deepened. "My mom came to you? I’m sorry, I actually told her not to bother you."
He looked guilty, but Nina Thorne remained expressionless, no longer concerned with his every word and action.
"Let’s get to the point."
Cole Kane clearly saw the coldness in her eyes, and an inexplicable panic seized his heart.
’It felt as if she would do whatever he asked, and once it was done, she would cut ties with him completely.’
Suppressing his irritation, he looked at her with anticipation. "Between you and my big brother... it’s not like what people are saying, is it?"
’Like that? Like the rumors about me seducing him?’
’It was far more than seduction. We’re already husband and wife.’
Nina Thorne’s eyes were icy as her lips curved into a mocking smile. "Second Young Master Kane, who I’m involved with is none of your business, is it?"
"Even if I do have something going on with Justin Kane, what right do you have to interfere?"
Cole Kane had never seen this harsh side of Nina Thorne, but lately, he kept seeing it. She was becoming less and less like the person he knew.
Cole Kane’s chest heaved with anger. "Even if you’re mad at me, you shouldn’t say such things just to provoke me. And you especially shouldn’t get involved with my big brother."
Nina Thorne ignored him.
The waiter brought the black coffee. Nina Thorne lowered her gaze, stirred it, and took a few sips.
She immediately felt much better.
Looking at her radiant face, Cole Kane found the sight so pleasing that he once again suppressed his temper.
’Such a stubborn temper.’
’She clearly likes lattes but insists on forcing herself to drink black coffee in front of me. She must still care about me so much that she’s doing this on purpose.’
’Even her deliberate attempts to get close to Big Brother are probably for the same reason.’
Cole Kane pushed down his budding anger and spoke in a confidential tone, "My big brother is cold and arrogant; you won’t be able to handle him. Besides, he’s had a woman he’s loved deeply for many years."
"I also know that woman even lost their child for his sake."
"Even if you try every trick in the book to seduce him, you’ll only end up getting badly hurt. You’re not his type at all."
Cole Kane’s words made Nina Thorne freeze, and a sudden wave of inferiority washed over her.
It was just as Cole Kane had once said: she was just a minor screenwriter, someone who couldn’t be shown off in high society.
But that was all secondary.
Clearly, the person Cole Kane was talking about was the same one Jason Graham had mentioned.
Although Justin Kane had said the child wasn’t his, he had never said that woman wasn’t the person he loved.
Besides, she remembered Justin Kane once mentioning that the person he loved didn’t love him back...
Nina Thorne’s face turned deathly pale. She fought to control her emotions, managing to keep her voice steady. "So what? That’s my business, not yours to worry about. You should just worry about that sister of yours who’s so eager to get into a man’s bed."
She couldn’t resist adding one last sarcastic jab, like a hedgehog with all its spines raised.
Cole Kane was stunned speechless, his expression turning ugly.
"I told you, I knew nothing about that! Nina Thorne, are you going to hold on to this one thing and condemn me for it forever?"
Cole Kane suppressed his temper again and reached for Nina Thorne’s hand.
Fortunately, Nina Thorne reacted quickly, snatching her hand back from the table as if he were poison and staring at him coldly.
"If that’s all you wanted to say to me, then I’ve heard you out."
Nina Thorne got up and walked out, unwilling to hear another word from him.
"Nina Thorne..."
Cole Kane stood up and chased after her.
-
「Meanwhile.」
In her hospital room, Serena Kane was on the phone. "Good, I’m counting on you this time! I want that woman dead!"
"As long as she’s dead, I’m confident I can keep Cole Kane tied firmly to my side."
A ruthless male voice replied, "Don’t worry. You paid us. We’ll make sure the job gets done cleanly."
"Okay, that’s enough talk. She’s coming out now."
"Good. I’ll be waiting for your good news!"
Serena Kane laughed triumphantly and hung up, her sinister gaze glinting with vicious coldness.
’Today is the day Nina Thorne dies!’
-
Nina Thorne left the coffee shop and, ignoring Cole Kane chasing her from behind, prepared to cross the street to hail a cab.
Just then, Cole Kane grabbed her by the wrist. "Nina Thorne, can you stop making a scene?"
"Just for the sake of me having saved you, give me one more chance. Let me make it up to you properly."
Nina Thorne’s brows furrowed deeply. She was just now discovering how shameless he could be.
It was a pity she had never noticed before.
"Let go."
Recoiling, Nina Thorne forcefully shook his hand off. "Stop bringing up the life debt at every turn. I will repay you, but I will never compromise myself for you again."
’Did he think she would still chase after him foolishly like before?’
’She would never do those things again.’
After speaking, Nina Thorne saw that the crosswalk light was green and started to cross the street.
There were many people crossing with her. Suddenly, Nina Thorne felt a push from behind, stumbling and falling to the ground.
She scraped her palms, and a fiery pain shot through them.
Just as Cole Kane saw her fall, he spotted a truck speeding toward them from a short distance away, showing no signs of slowing down.
"Nina Thorne, look out!"
Cole Kane’s eyes widened, and his shout caught Nina Thorne’s attention.
As she pushed herself up, she saw the truck barreling toward her, and her own eyes widened in shock.
Her mind went blank. Her feet felt rooted to the spot, frozen in place as she watched helplessly, the truck hurtling straight toward her...
"NINA THORNE!"
CRASH!
Just then, the violent sound of a vehicle collision echoed through the air.
