Chapter 89: Exposing Her Own Feelings
Abigail smiled faintly.
No wonder this clueless Sawyer repeatedly asked her for marriage; it turned out he had never proposed to anyone before.
He also seemed oblivious about how to propose to a girl properly. Gosh!
"Sawyer, have you ever used Google?"
"Abby, what are you trying to say?" Sawyer turned to look at her, frowning in confusion. "Of course, I’ve used it," he said.
"Maybe you should try Googling: ’How to propose to a woman!’" Abigail suggested playfully.
Instantly, Sawyer felt a wave of cold blood rush through his veins—he realized he had made a huge mistake again. frёewebηovel.cѳm
’Damn it! How could I ruin this? Why did I ask her to be my wife in the same way I asked her to be my girlfriend? How could you be that stupid, Sawyer?!’ he scolded himself inwardly.
Sawyer wished he could go back in time and correct his blunder, proposing to her properly this time.
...
When the car finally stopped in front of a restaurant that resembled a beautiful house, Sawyer turned to her with an apologetic grin.
"Abby, I know I’m ruining my proposal to you. Can you forget about what I said in the past few days?" He sighed deeply, though a foolish smile remained on his lips when he saw she didn’t say anything but stared at him expressionless.
"..."
"I promise I’ll do my research. I’ll make sure to propose properly next time and create a memorable moment for you to cherish for the rest of your life," Sawyer continued when he noticed she hadn’t said anything.
"Please don’t do that, Sawyer," Abigail suddenly interrupted, causing Sawyer’s eyebrows to raise in surprise.
"Abby, have you finally decided to refuse me? Can you explain why? I mean... why would you do that?" Sawyer asked, his voice trembling with worry and sadness at the thought that Abigail might not give him a chance to be with her.
Realizing he misunderstood her, Abigail quickly reached out and held his hand.
Sawyer was stunned by the warmth of her small, delicate hand in his. It was enough to gradually dissipate his worries. He slowly lifted his gaze to meet her beautiful eyes but said nothing, waiting for her to speak.
"I’m not rejecting you, Sawyer," she said with a reassuring smile.
"But Abby, why did you stop me?"
"I stopped you from proposing in a public place surrounded by so many strangers..." she paused as Sawyer tightened his grip on her hand.
Abigail felt her heartbeat race as she looked at their entwined hands.
After taking a deep breath to calm herself, she continued, "I mean, proposals in restaurants with all the customers and staff watching, at basketball games, football games, or anywhere where hundreds or even thousands of eyes are on us."
As an introvert, Abigail never imagined receiving such a grand proposal. She preferred a quiet, romantic setting where only she and her partner would be involved.
Sawyer made a mental note of all her preferences. He didn’t want to make a mistake next time, or she would definitely reject him.
"So, Sawyer, if someday you want to propose to me, make sure you choose the right place, or I will run away from you..." Abigail couldn’t finish her sentence when she noticed his eyes shining with happiness as he stared back at her.
’Oh my God! Did I just reveal that I’m willing to accept his proposal?’ Abigail took a deep, silent breath, struggling to believe she was exposing her true feelings to him.
Or had she fallen for his trick again, allowing her to accept him immediately? She couldn’t tell the difference anymore.
Abigail didn’t want to dwell on this matter, so she shifted the topic of their conversation.
"Sawyer, the restaurant might be closed if we spend too much time here. And... I know you must be starving, as I’m starving too. Shall we go inside now?"
Suddenly, Sawyer’s expression, which had been cheerful, grew tense at the mention of her hunger.
"Sorry, I forgot about that. Let’s go..." Sawyer finally released her hand, unbuckled his seatbelt, and rushed to open the car door for her.
"Thank you," she said, feeling warmth seeing him trying so hard to pamper her.
"And don’t worry about the restaurant closing, Abby. I know the owner and the chef here. They’ll wait for us no matter when we arrive. And they will save at least a few portions of their most recommended dishes for me and my companion. Also, I’ll make sure they serve us quickly," Sawyer reassured her as he opened the door for her.
Abigail smiled when she saw the sign on the door: "Closed." The restaurant was open until 9 pm, and they arrived after it closed.
The dining hall appeared empty, with only a few staff members greeting and guiding them to a table by the glass wall. From there, they could gaze at the night scenery of the towering buildings in the distance.
Once they were seated, the waitress promptly presented her with fine-dining menus. Abigail was delighted to find her favorite dish listed.
"Abby, if you want to change the order, you can ask him," Sawyer suggested.
"No need. I like it," she replied, smiling at the waitress, who nodded respectfully before disappearing into the kitchen.
Only the two of them remained in the not-so-big hall, dominated by natural colors: white walls adorned with a few gold ornaments.
Abigail glanced around while listening to the sound of a piano playing from a hidden speaker.
She noticed that the luxurious restaurant felt more like an exclusive club for the wealthy.
Two sets of sofas formed a mini lounge in the middle of the room, all beneath a beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
At the end of the room, there were several dining tables—eight in total. She also spotted a bar stocked with various expensive liquors and wine and noticed stairs leading to the second floor. However, the lights above were already off.
"Do you like the place?" Sawyer’s voice pulled Abigail back to the present as she turned to look at him again.
