Betrayed By One. Bound To Three-Chapter 54: Something is Wrong.
The chirping of the birds outside woke Selena up the next morning. She stirred beneath the covers, her brow faintly furrowed, as if the remnants of a dream clung stubbornly to her mind.
Something felt wrong.
Not pain. Not quite illness either. Just a strange heaviness in her body, as though sleep had not restored her the way it usually did.
Her eyes opened slowly.
For a moment she remained still, staring at the ceiling while she tried to understand the uneasy feeling lingering in her chest.
Her wolf shifted restlessly beneath her skin.
Unsettled.
Selena pushed herself upright, pressing a hand briefly to her temple as a faint wave of dizziness passed through her.
A dull weakness lingered in her limbs, and when she shifted slightly in bed, a strange unease rolled through her chest.
"Perhaps I simply did not rest well," she murmured to herself.
It was not entirely convincing.
Still, she rose and forced herself through her morning routine. A bath helped somewhat, the warm water easing the stiffness in her muscles. She washed slowly, letting the quiet calm her thoughts, then dressed in a simple gown suitable for the morning meal.
By the time she finished, her expression was once again composed.
No one would notice anything unusual.
Or so she hoped.
When Selena opened her door and stepped into the corridor, she stopped almost immediately.
Her triplets mates were already there.
Edris leaned casually against the wall with his arms crossed, as though he had been waiting for some time. Ronan stood nearby, straight-backed and alert, his sharp gaze turning toward her the moment she appeared.
Kael stood slightly apart from them.
Silent, as always.
But the moment Selena stepped into the corridor, all three of them focused on her.
Edris’s brows lifted slightly.
"Well," he said lightly, "you look... less lively than yesterday."
Selena attempted a small smile, though she suspected it did not quite reach her eyes.
"Do I?"
Ronan was already studying her closely.
"You don’t look well," he said bluntly.
Kael said nothing, but his gaze moved slowly across her face as though searching for something.
Selena exhaled softly.
"I am not entirely sure what it is," she admitted. "I woke up feeling... weak."
Edris straightened from the wall.
"Weak how?"
"I don’t know," she said, frowning faintly. "Nothing hurts. I simply feel... strange."
The three brothers exchanged a quick glance.
Ronan’s expression darkened slightly.
"You should see the healer."
Selena shook her head immediately.
"No."
The response came quicker than she intended.
Edris tilted his head.
"You sound rather certain about that."
Selena began walking down the corridor toward the dining hall, and the brothers naturally fell into step beside her.
"I do not believe the problem is with my body," she said calmly. "It feels more like... my wolf."
At that, Edris’s expression shifted thoughtfully.
"That might make sense."
Ronan glanced toward him.
"How?"
Edris shrugged slightly.
"She hasn’t shifted since returning to the pack."
Selena nodded.
"That is true."
Her wolf stirred again at the thought, restless beneath her skin.
The corridor opened into the dining hall moments later.
The long table had already been set with breakfast—fresh bread, fruit, warm tea, and several dishes prepared by the servants.
But as Selena’s eyes moved across the room, she immediately noticed something.
Two seats were empty.
Silas.
And Loretta.
Selena paused slightly before taking her seat.
Ronan noticed immediately.
"What is it?"
"Silas is not here," she said quietly.
Edris glanced toward the empty chair.
"And Loretta."
Selena motioned gently to one of the nearby maids.
The young woman approached quickly, bowing her head respectfully.
"Yes, my lady?"
"Do you know where Alpha Silas is?"
The maid nodded.
"He left early this morning, my lady."
Selena’s brows lifted slightly.
"Early?"
"Yes," the maid confirmed. "He departed before sunrise."
"And Loretta?"
The maid hesitated briefly before answering.
"She is still resting, my lady."
Selena dismissed her with a small nod.
The maid bowed and hurried away.
Selena leaned back slightly in her chair, thoughtful.
Silas leaving before sunrise was unusual.
He was not typically the type to begin his day that early unless something required his attention.
Or unless he was planning something.
Selena’s fingers brushed lightly against the edge of the table.
What are you doing now, Silas?
Across from her, Ronan watched her carefully.
"You seem lost in thought."
Selena blinked slightly and reached for the food placed before her.
"Perhaps."
She tried to eat.
A small piece of bread.
But the moment she took a bite, her stomach twisted faintly.
She forced herself to swallow, though the strange unease remained.
Across the table, none of the triplets had touched their food.
Their attention remained fixed on her.
Edris noticed immediately when she set the bread down.
"You barely ate that."
"I am not very hungry," Selena admitted.
Ronan frowned.
"You should still eat."
"I will try."
Another servant arrived then, placing a cup of warm tea beside her.
Selena lifted it slowly and took a few careful sips.
The warmth helped slightly.
But after two or three sips, she set the cup back down.
"That is all I can manage," she said quietly.
Ronan leaned forward slightly.
"That settles it."
Selena looked up.
"You’re seeing the healer."
She shook her head again.
"No."
Kael shifted slightly in his seat, though he still had not spoken.
Selena continued before Ronan could argue.
"I truly do not believe it is illness."
Edris leaned back in his chair, considering her words.
"you still think it’s your wolf."
Selena nodded.
"I think so."
Edris rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"Maybe your wolf wants to come out."
"maybe."
Ronan glanced between them.
"You think she needs to run?"
"It could help," Edris said.
Selena considered the idea quietly.
Her wolf stirred again, more strongly this time.
Restless.
Almost eager.
Ronan noticed the subtle shift in her expression.
"We could take you to the woods," he said.
Selena looked up.
"A run?"
"Yes."
His voice was calm, but there was something protective beneath it.
"It might help your wolf relax."
Selena hesitated briefly before nodding.
"That might actually help."
Ronan leaned back slightly.
"Then we should go right away."
Selena lifted a hand gently.
"Not so quickly."
Edris smiled faintly.
"Of course there is a condition."
"Several," she corrected calmly.
Ronan raised an eyebrow.
"Go on."
"We must be discreet."
Silas might not be present at the moment, but that did not mean he would approve of her disappearing into the woods with the rogues.
Especially not after the conversation they had shared the night before.
Edris nodded.
"That can be arranged."
Ronan did not seem concerned.
"Discretion is something we are very good at."
Throughout the conversation, Kael remained silent.
But his attention never left Selena.
Several times their eyes met briefly across the table.
Each time, Kael looked away first—but not before something unspoken passed between them.
Concern.
Selena noticed it.
Even if he said nothing.
And strangely... it steadied her.
Finally, she pushed her chair back gently.
"Then we should go soon," she said quietly.
Her wolf stirred again beneath her skin.
This time, stronger.
Ronan stood immediately.
Edris followed.
Kael rose last.
As they left the dining hall together, Selena could not shake the strange feeling lingering in her body.
Something was changing.
And she was not yet certain whether it was her wolf...
Or something else entirely.
