Birthing Legends: My Womb Creates SSS Monsters-Chapter 85: Mother and Children vs. a Horde of Undead — Part 3.
White Spirit
[Trait Acquired: Incorporeal Body]
[Physical body is partially intangible, allowing most solid objects and attacks to pass through. However, magic, spiritual forces, and certain enchanted weapons can still affect it.]
[Trait Acquired: Ethereal Drift]
[Moves by floating silently through the air. Can pass through thin walls, debris, and obstacles without physical restriction.]
[Trait Acquired: Lingering Presence]
[Bound to the location of its death or strong emotional ties. Power and stability increase while within its haunting grounds.]
[Trait Acquired: Chill Aura]
[Emits a faint supernatural cold that can cause discomfort, shivers, or minor fatigue in nearby living creatures.]
[Trait Acquired: Fading Form]
[Body can momentarily fade to reduce damage from incoming attacks, though repeated use weakens its spiritual cohesion.]
[Trait Acquired: Spirit Sight]
[Can perceive life force, emotions, and other spiritual entities even through darkness, fog, or physical obstacles.]
[Trait Acquired: Light Element (Basic)]
[Grants natural affinity with Light, enhancing control over Light based abilities and increasing resistance to Light aligned attacks.]
[Trait Acquired: White Spirit Body Parts]
[You may now manifest any portion of the White Spirit’s anatomy—arms, legs, or the entire physical form with perfect precision. These examples are not limiting; any part can be used.]
Shadow Spirit
[Trait Acquired: Shadow Body]
[Form composed of condensed darkness and mana. Body remains partially intangible, allowing many physical attacks to pass through.]
[Trait Acquired: Shadow Meld]
[Can merge with nearby shadows to conceal its presence completely. Detection becomes extremely difficult in dim or dark environments.]
[Trait Acquired: Dark Claw Manifestation]
[Can temporarily solidify parts of its body into sharp claws formed from condensed shadow energy to strike physical targets.]
[Trait Acquired: Vitality Drain]
[Successful attacks siphon small amounts of warmth and life force from targets, gradually weakening living creatures.]
[Trait Acquired: Silent Drift]
[Moves without producing sound or disturbing air currents, making ambushes extremely difficult to detect.]
[Trait Acquired: Shadow Step]
[Can slip between connected shadows within a short distance, allowing sudden repositioning or escape.]
[Trait Acquired: Dark Element (Basic)]
[Grants natural affinity with Dark, enhancing control over Dark based abilities and increasing resistance to Dark aligned attacks.]
[Trait Acquired: Shadow Spirit Body Parts]
[You may now manifest any portion of the Shadow Spirit’s anatomy—arms, legs, or the entire physical form with perfect precision. These examples are not limiting; any part can be used.]
[Apply these traits to yourself, or store them?]
Maddy stood still for a moment, processing the flood of information from the undead she had just devoured. Her face twisted in visible discomfort.
"Oh god... these traits are all screaming after life to me..."
She shuddered, rubbing her arms as if trying to shake the feeling off.
"But that rot tolerance is actually really useful. That’s basically medicine for surviving this disgusting area."
She exhaled, reluctantly making her decision.
"Yeah, apply all of them... but make absolutely sure you do not apply those body parts to me. If I suddenly grow ghost arms or something I will literally collapse in fear!"
[Response: By your command... applying all ingested traits directly to your body except the body parts...]
Initializing...
Poof!
[Done.]
Maddy froze. Slowly... she opened one eye. Then the other. She looked down at herself. Her arms were still normal. Her legs were still normal. No ghost limbs. No floating skull. No creepy shadow hands.
"Okay."
She let out the biggest sigh of relief imaginable.
"Oh thank goodness."
Behind her, Sephiran tilted his head.
"Mother... what were you expecting to happen?"
Maddy crossed her arms, trying to regain dignity.
"Nothing! Absolutely nothing! I was just... performing a very controlled scientific procedure."
The light of Daylight had left the cavern walls gleaming but as the radiance dimmed, the true nature of Area 1 revealed itself. Maddy’s stomach churned. As a zoologist, she had dissected thousands of organisms, but this wasn’t anatomy... it was a crime scene.
"What in the world is this place... These aren’t just rocks. The calcium density... the porous structure... don’t tell me..."
She slowly raised her head and scanned the cavern again.
The ceiling.
The walls.
The floor.
Massive curved arches stretched through the darkness like the inside of some titanic cathedral. Her breath caught. Before the last rays of daylight vanished, the horrifying geometry finally clicked into place.
Maddy turned to her children, her face pale.
"My children, we aren’t in a cave. We are walking through a colossal ribcage."
A heavy silence settled over the cavern. Everyone stood still, their minds slowly catching up with what Maddy had just said... and what their feet had been walking on this entire time.
Bone. Ancient, colossal bone. The quiet stretched for several seconds. Then Arach tilted his head slightly and pointed toward a nearby burial mound.
"Mother, look... The goblins didn’t make these. They stole them."
Scattered in the dirt were tattered leather boots, dented helmets, and broken iron longswords half buried in the gray dust. Maddy turned toward the pile.
"Those are... things from—"
"Humans."
Frovian finished calmly. His amber eyes swept across the debris with cold precision, studying the scene like a scholar examining ruins.
"Judging from the corrosion, these weapons have been here for years... perhaps decades."
He nudged a cracked shield with the tip of his foot.
"The goblins simply scavenged what remained."
His gaze drifted toward the drifting remnants of light where the spirits had been purified moments earlier.
"Which means those ghosts we just destroyed..."
He paused for a moment.
"...were likely the souls of the humans who died here."
"AAAAAAHHHHHHH—!"
A piercing, curdling shriek ripped through the stagnant air. It wasn’t the guttural bark of a goblin or the scream of a ghosts. it was a human voice, raw with the terror of a slow death.
"HELP! SOMEBODY—!"
The scream cut off into a wet, gurgling choke. Maddy’s maternal instincts overrode her fear of the macabre.
"East! That came from the eastern corridor! Move!"
The family blurred into motion. Sephiran leaped over mounds of bone, his bat held tight, while Dyralfa’s heavy footfalls shook the "floor" of the dire drake’s ribs. But as they rounded the corner into a wide, sunken plaza of ash, they were hit by a wall of stagnant, violet pressure.
A gust of foul, purple wind slapped them back. The Mana Distortion was venting its final, toxic breath. As the purple mist cleared, the horror was laid bare.
Ten adventurers lay sprawled across the ash. Their clothes were high quality, their weapons enchanted, but their eyes were vacant, fixed in the wide eyed stare of the recently deceased.
Sephiran’s eyes trembled as he stared at the bodies, the horror sinking in.
"They’re... they’re all dead. Mother, we’re too late."
