Bizarre Realm-Chapter 309 - 5: The Returning Traveler (Part 2)
A small favor, no need for thanks.
A Transcendent of the Mind Path can almost do as they please in the Realm of Reality. With a simple Mind Suggestion, coupled with a constant Skillful Speech Technique gained from visiting the Demon Realm once, Shawn easily resolved all travel troubles through persuasion.
As for being witty and humorous, that’s merely because the Skillful Speech Technique makes it easier for others to be persuaded. If one subconsciously agrees with Shawn’s views, naturally they would find him humorous and charming.
"Daisy should have returned to the Del Region by now."
Shawn turned to look at the patrolling policeman in the Wharf District. It was a plainclothes officer, a newly-promoted Transcendent, who appeared to be of the Ranger Path.
"Are Transcendents appearing among the police too?"
"A change brought by Aemon?"
After the last disaster ended, the number of Transcendents in Dorne City noticeably increased. It could be that the upper echelons were forced to make concessions; staying unchanged was not an option. Aemon, that madman, could do anything. Passing through the Wharf District, Shawn felt the presence of several Transcendents. Even while having a meal, he encountered a patrolling plainclothes officer, also recently promoted. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"All are below Extraordinary Level 5, promoted within a year."
Shawn had lunch and strolled beside the road in the Wharf District.
The area once burned by fire has been rebuilt, the Wolf Ship Factory has been reconstructed, as if nothing ever changed.
The gentle breeze in the Wharf District gave Shawn a sense of relaxation he hadn’t felt in a long time. He wandered along the newly built district, inadvertently turning into one of the employee dormitories, soon climbing to the third floor and lightly knocking on one of the doors.
"Who is it?" A cautious female voice sounded.
Upon hearing the gentle female voice, Shawn visibly relaxed and feigned innocence, saying, "Is this Mr. White’s residence?"
Peeking through the peephole, the woman seemed to feel he wasn’t a bad person and slowly opened the door.
She was a gentle and beautiful woman, her face slightly haggard, with faint dark circles under her eyes. She spoke politely yet warily, "Sir, you might have the wrong address."
Shawn feigned surprise, saying, "Is it not? I’m sorry."
"I might really have gotten the wrong address."
After visiting the Demon Realm once, his acting skills had improved significantly; demons are all glib-tongued creatures.
"Mom?"
At that moment, a little girl’s voice sounded. She walked out of the room, rubbing her eyes and asked in a clear childlike voice, "Is there a guest?"
Shawn’s pupils slightly contracted in an instant; he saw a faint Spiritual Light on the girl.
An awakening Transcendent!
Though not yet fully awakened, the Extraordinary Essence was already within her. Hank Brand’s daughter, a Transcendent promoted through inheritance.
Noticing the woman’s increasingly wary gaze, Shawn bowed apologetically, saying, "Sorry."
"I recognized wrong. I will leave now."
The woman quickly closed the door.
Shawn, with a solemn expression, slowly descended the stairs. The good news was that Hank Brand’s wife and daughter were living quite well; the bad news was that his daughter inherited Hank’s Extraordinary Essence.
——Light Chasers never betray the light.
Shawn couldn’t sit idly by. He promised Hank to look after his wife and daughter, and he still owed Hank a trip to the Roman Imperial Palace.
"A bloodline-inherited Transcendent."
"Hank probably hoped his daughter would live as a normal person, right?"
He rubbed his forehead, muttering, "Is there a way to turn a Transcendent back into a normal person? If not, I have to at least ensure she safely completes her awakening and promotion!"
This type of bloodline-awakening Transcendent is somewhat similar to a Warlock; it’s like uncontrolled superpowers that can cause quite a bit of trouble.
While descending the stairs, Shawn saw a hurried middle-aged man, whom Shawn had briefly met before, Hank’s wife’s remarried husband, seemingly a mid-level employee. The man warily glanced at Shawn and quickly went upstairs to open the door, asking if someone had knocked.
It wasn’t long.
Sounds of quarreling came from upstairs; smack, Shawn heard a crisp slap, and a shocking killing intent burst forth from him in an instant!
The woman upstairs was slapped.
A clear palm print marked her attractive face, and the little girl at the door protected her mother, glaring at the middle-aged man with fierce eyes like a little tiger. Facing this girl barely 1.4 meters tall, a trace of fear flashed in the man’s eyes. He couldn’t help but step back half a step and quickly opened the door, leaving the house.
——Dominate Humans.
——Reading Thoughts.
In an instant, Shawn’s figure flashed out; his deep eyes sparkled with Spiritual Light, directly invading the man’s brain, dominating his will while reading his thoughts and memories.
The source of all the conflicts was the girl’s awakening.
The mother wanted to protect her daughter; the father felt fear. Amidst endless arguments, the entire family gradually fell apart.
Hanna Brand.
That little girl’s name, as Hank’s only descendant, she inherited the Transcendent’s gift.
But the man before them feared her, dreaded her; he feared Transcendents, even if the person was his stepdaughter, an underage little girl.
With Hank’s cautionary tale, his wife never wanted her daughter to become a Night Watcher, or even get close to the world of Transcendents. This also coincided with Hank’s last wish, but fear destroyed her second husband; after the turmoil in Dorne City last time, his mind seemed slightly damaged, view Transcendents as if facing a monster.
He lived in the shadow of fear; the remnants of the past permanently altered his mind.
This man’s will defense had already been shattered.
Shawn gently sighed, released the spell dominating the man, erased traces of his presence, and turned away, quietly leaving.
When they met last time, their relationship was good, but now it had reached the point of physical conflict.
But it was a family matter, Shawn couldn’t rashly interfere.
He needed to find a time to meet the little girl alone; her awakening had reached the final stage and would soon obtain Transcendent power.
New City District, Grand Pendulum Clock.
Shawn stepped off the tram and a boy’s voice called from behind as he passed the theater, "Sir, do you want some cigarettes?"
He turned to see a big, crippled boy, whose lower right leg was amputated and replaced with a wooden prosthetic. When the boy saw Shawn look back, he smiled slightly and added, "Sir, do you want cigarettes? I also have gum."
Shawn stared at the big boy in front of him, picked up a pack of cigarettes, the latest model of lighter, and a piece of gum wrapped in paper, and handed a hundred dinar bill to him.
The boy’s expression was a bit tense; he flipped through his pockets, apologetically saying, "I’m sorry, sir."
"I can’t make change."
When he looked up again, he stood frozen; the gentleman’s figure had long since disappeared. He hobbled around the road for a while, but the person seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Grand Pendulum Clock, Park District, Nameless Monument.
Shawn’s figure seemed to be searching for something. When he spotted a simply dressed flower-selling girl in the distance, he couldn’t help but feel relieved.
He waved from afar, and the little girl soon saw him and happily ran over.
"Good afternoon, sir."
The flower-selling little girl bowed politely and asked, "Would you like to buy some flowers?"
Shawn chose a bouquet of white chrysanthemums.
Watching the little girl move happily away, he slowly walked to the nameless stone monument and laid the bouquet on the ground.
"I’m back."
Shawn bowed deeply and turned towards the cemetery district.
At some point, it started drizzling.
Sean’s Tomb.
He gazed at the black tombstones standing before him—his own, Hank’s, Qin’s, those of other sacrificed Night Watchers—and fell silent for a long, long time.
Returning here once more, he was not only Shawn, but also Aemon.
Shawn opened a bottle and poured it in front of Hank’s tombstone, sitting down and patting the tombstone, softly saying, "I have some things to discuss with you."
"About your wife and daughter."
"Your daughter has awakened the bloodline of a Transcendent, and your wife doesn’t seem to be doing well now either."
——Speak to the dead!
In the misty rain of dusk, Shawn’s palm revealed a peculiar skeletal Curio, from which soon emerged a faint stir from the tomb below.
Shawn awakened Hank’s lingering spirituality after death, enabling him to temporarily converse.
