Chapter 224: Why are you embarrassed?

Andrew was woken up with soft, warm lips pressed against his own. Soft, featherlight, and quick. Andrew chuckled, wrapping his arms around the man who was giggling, holding onto his face as he continued to kiss his cheeks, lips and forehead.

"Good morning." Andrew greeted him in between kisses, and Maxwell giggled, nuzzling against his face and sighed.

"Good morning." Maxwell replied, smiling down at Andrew. He was close enough that Andrew could see his face in detail and Andrew held onto his waist, rolling him until Maxwell was on top of him. He ignored what was going on below, and reached up, brushing Maxwell’s hair back from his face.

"How did you sleep?" Andrew asked carefully, his smile genuine as he looked at the man. Despite the interruption last night, he was happy to see the man in such good spirits. His face didn’t look great, as he was sure it wasn’t an overnight fix, but he did look better. The life was back in his eyes, and that made Andrew melt into the mattress below him.

"I think I slept well. I don’t remember waking up at all." Maxwell said and that made Andrew a little nervous. He didn’t remember waking up?

"Oh? Not even to toss and turn?" Andrew asked and Maxwell laughed, smiling down at him.

"Why would I do that when I have you in the bed beside me? There is no reason for me to complain." Maxwell’s face was light, relaxed. He was a good liar, but even that would be pushing it.

Maxwell had no recollection of what happened last night. Andrew’s chest squeezed, his breathing feeling a little hard. It had nothing to do with the man currently lying on top of him, but with the fact that he was giving him such an innocent smile. He was so...happy, and Andrew felt like an ass for having to potentially ruin it.

"Max." Andrew started, and watched as Maxwell’s face fell slightly.

"What? You sound so serious. Did something happen?" Andrew nodded, turning slightly to slide his glasses on. He wanted to be able to see everything, and Maxwell shifted enough to let Andrew do that, before moving back to lie on top of him. He looked worried now, and Andrew felt terrible for having to bring it up, but he couldn’t think of anything else he could do.

Something was wrong, and if Maxwell had brought it up himself, Andrew would have been less worried. Still concerned, but less so. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"Well, you did wake up last night." Andrew told him and Maxwell furrowed his brows.

"I don’t remember that. Did I do something strange? Did I come onto you or something?" Maxwell joked, but when Andrew’s face didn’t change, the humour left his face. "What is it? You look so serious Andrew that it’s scaring me." Andrew exhaled slowly.

"Well, I would argue that you scared me more last night. I thought you were going to turn around and race at me like you were possessed and from a scary movie." Maxwell’s gaze widened. "I woke up in the middle of the night because you weren’t beside me. At first, I thought maybe you were in the bathroom, but the light wasn’t on. So, I got up and checked the house." Maxwell’s face went white, as if he had an idea of what had happened, but didn’t want to know the truth. Andrew swallowed. "You were...pressed against the window looking out over the backyard. The light was one. I turned it off when we went to bed. There was a pile of my clothes on the floor, but I was more worried about the fact that you didn’t respond to me when I called to you."

Maxwell pushed off of Andrew’s chest, sitting up, swallowing thickly as his already pale face went even whiter. Andrew followed him, putting his hand on Maxwell’s neck, holding him comfortingly, but Maxwell looked unwell.

"I did that?" Maxwell repeated. Andrew was surprised he was more shaken by this behaviour then the first time, but he wasn’t going to point it out right now. It wasn’t the time.

"You did. I didn’t move anything last night, just took you to bed so everything should still be there." Andrew told him gently and Maxwell turned, jerkily getting off of the bed, moving away from Andrew to check on what he’d done. Andrew followed after him, worried about the reaction that Maxwell was having to the news.

Andrew felt like an asshole. They could have had a normal, easy morning, and he had fucked it up.

Watching him, Andrew noticed that Maxwell was unsteady on his feet. Moving faster, just in case, he held his arms out to catch Maxwell if he fell or fainted. Either were on the table, since Maxwell, and Andrew, were pretty unstable right now. Maxwell gasped when he noticed the pile of clothes in the middle of the floor in between the kitchen, bedroom and living room. Andrew caught a glimpse of his face, noticing it was beet red, as Maxwell turned his gaze towards the backyard.

Slowly, carefully, he moved towards the door and turned off the light. He let out a shaky breath as Andrew came to stand beside him.

"Are you okay?" Andrew asked carefully. It was clear that Maxwell was shaken at the sight, his shaking frame, fast breaths, and the way his gaze was darting everywhere was a good sign, but Andrew didn’t know what to do. Which part of it caused him to react like this? Or was it all of it? He just didn’t know unless Maxwell spoke to him about it.

"I...I don’t think so." Maxwell muttered, dropping his head and covering his face. "I didn’t think this would be revealed so quickly." Maxwell admitted and Andrew turned towards him more.

"What was revealed, Maxwell? I don’t understand." Maxwell peeked through his fingers, staring at Andrew’s open, honest face before he buried his face again.

"I missed you. A lot." Maxwell started. Andrew understood that. He missed Maxwell too. "I...I worried that you had been kidnapped again at first." Maxwell said slowly, and Andrew sucked in. Uh oh. His brain raced, making a connection between Maxwell’s behaviour and the backyard immediately.

Andrew felt sick to his stomach hearing that, knowing what Maxwell was going to say next.

"It became a habit to just...stay there." Maxwell gestured behind him towards where the pile of clothes in the middle of the floor were. "I was just keeping an eye on everything in case you came home suddenly and needed help. I don’t know when I grabbed the clothes, but at some point I just missed you so much that I couldn’t do without your scent around." Maxwell sighed, clearly not wanting to speak about this, but still forging ahead. "I haven’t been able to sleep because I’ve been worrying that you could just come home and I wouldn’t be there to greet you." Andrew pulled the other man towards him, wrapping him up in his arms.

"Fuck. I’m sorry Maxwell. I didn’t-why didn’t you tell me that my kidnapping fucked you up?" Maxwell laughed wetly, and that only made Andrew’s heart break more. Maxwell was crying?

"What was I supposed to do? You were the one who got kidnapped. I shouldn’t have worried about it. I was just...I was fine until now." Andrew didn’t believe that for a minute. Maxwell might have just been more subtle about it, and Andrew had been too dense to notice it before. He was kicking himself.

"No longer. No longer are you allowed to do this. I am so hurt that you were in pain like this because of something neither of us could have controlled. Especially something like a kidnapping." Andrew exhaled, squeezing the other man carefully. "I think...I think we should tell your parents what’s been going on." Andrew murmured. "Everything. Including the Doctor’s visit, and why it happened, because I think you need to go back." Andrew told him carefully and Maxwell groaned. He pressed his head against Andrew’s chest, moving his hands down until they were free from Andrew’s embrace, only to wrap them around Andrew tightly.

"Fuck. Mom already tried to interrogate me when they dropped me off. They...they obviously know something is wrong. I just...I don’t want them to be disappointed in me, or think I can’t do my job because I’m an omega." Andrew wanted to shake the man. Why the hell would they think that? Who had said that to him?

Andrew was going to kill whoever put that stupid thought in Maxwell’s head, because he was so capable that Andrew had worried he didn’t have a spot in his life. There was nothing from Maxwell’s parents, or what Andrew had seen of Maxwell’s parents, that gave Andrew the idea that they wouldn’t be 100% supportive of their son if he was going through something difficult.

Andrew was just going to have to convince Maxwell of that.
