Chapter 232: I’m just teasing, unless?

After getting reamed out a bit more by Michael, and some playful banter, Andrew was back in his office and he realised that he hadn’t had a chance to ask Michael about the fact that he somehow had an office in the lower level research department?

In fact, Michael had kind of behaved in a sketchy way, avoiding the topic entirely. He kept Andrew busy with normal tests, teasing, and making sure Andrew promised him to let him know the next time something like this happened. It was care, for sure, but he was definitely hiding the truth from him as well.

Maxwell had also never mentioned it either.

Had Michael been closer to the company then he had thought? Not that it was a bad thing, it just felt weird that he was so late to knowing that. Richard and the others also didn’t treat Michael in a strange way, and that thought pestered him for the rest of the day.

So much so that he forgot to add to the document that they had made for Dr. Piper, even if she had been displaying strange habits all day. It wasn’t until Maxwell came to pick him up, long after Dr. Piper and Dr. Cox had left, he realised it was time to go home.

Due to all of the interruptions during their normal work hours, Andrew and Maxwell had agreed collectively that they would work longer hours until things returned to normal, or until Maxwell had a nervous breakdown or was forced to rest by his Doctor. Coincidentally, he had another meeting on the next Monday.

Both Andrew and Maxwell were ignoring that fact.

"Andy? All done? How was the day Richard?" Maxwell asked, pulling his coat around him tighter as he stepped into the office. Richard gave Maxwell a toothy grin from behind his monitor while Andrew went about closing down his programs that he had open.

"Well, it was alright. Not too many interruptions today, and Andrew is almost finished getting caught up with the backlog for the previous experiment. Soon, we’ll be able to move forward with the new backlogs, and maybe get another testing group ready. They let me know that they’ve tweaked the formula again and they think it’ll be better this time." Richard told him and Maxwell nodded, an excited gleam in his eyes.

"That’s a great thing to hear. I’m sure they’re probably as excited as you are." Richard nodded, smiling.

"Yup! Dr. Liu was saying she was having a hard time controlling her department because of it. It’s always nice when research goes the way you want it to." Maxwell glanced at Andrew, who was just shutting down his computer as the two spoke. Andrew didn’t know why he was looking at him, especially with that complicated look on his face.

"I’ll have to check in with her and make sure she doesn’t have too much on her plate." Maxwell muttered. Andrew stood up, exchanging his research coat for his outside coat, and grabbed his phone and access keys.

"Alright, we’re heading out. Are you sure you’re okay, Richard?" Andrew asked, and Richard waved his hand at his concern.

"Shut the fuck up and get out of here. If I need anything, I’ll call." Richard told him and Andrew nodded. Maxwell slipped his hand into Andrew’s and he got a little shiver up his spine at the contact. They headed out of the office and for the elevator. While there, Andrew let Maxwell know about the parts of his day that he wasn’t there to witness. Maxwell listened intently, nodding along to anything Andrew said, and commenting on certain things when he could.

It was nice. It felt like they had gotten back a part of their normal routine. There were small differences. Maxwell was a bit more touchy-feely compared to before, and his eyes darted around nervously as they headed for the front doors when the elevator doors opened. His pheromones were a little more unstable, and he held onto Andrew’s hand a little tighter.

Gone was the man who had been postering so hard. The man who had wanted to be the perfect CEO. He’d had that torn from him by Andrew’s actions, and with his own actions that had followed. Andrew knew that no one really cared about Maxwell’s outward appearance, since he took such good care of his people. He stood up for them, made sure that they had safe places to work, punished those who harmed them.

He might be an insecure man when it came to his own personal relationships, but he was hard where it mattered. Maxwell cared about his company, and it showed. So his people would rally behind him. Even if it meant that sometimes Andrew got some really weird propositions in the elevators or the bathrooms.

Andrew was never going to bring it up to Maxwell, because he knew that they weren’t serious, but about twice now in the few days he’d been back to work he’d been asked to not leave Mr. Beckett, and if he needed it, they would suck him off just to give him a thrill.

Andrew knew it was coming from a place of concern, since the two omegas who had suggested it, separately he might add, were shaking as they offered it. He was worried that someone had threatened them into making the offer, but then he’d met their gaze. They cared so much about their work and the place that they worked that they were willing to offer up their bodies as collateral. Andrew was impressed by their dedication.

He had also told them no in the lightest, kindest way possible. He thanked them for their concern about his relationship with Maxwell, but told them that was cheating, and he had plans to do that. The relief that had crossed their features made Andrew want to beat up whatever alpha had given them the idea that making this offer was okay, but he kept that thought inside, and did his best to keep his own pheromones under wraps as well.

Thankfully he hadn’t had that conversation today, so the guilt wasn’t eating away at him. He just didn’t want people who worried about Maxwell to get fired. They meant no harm, and Andrew was never going to take them up on their offers. If it ever got to that point, he wouldn’t cheat. He’d just end the relationship.

Thinking of it though...

Andrew waited until they were in the car, away from prying eyes before he voiced his thoughts.

"Max?" Andrew called, and Maxwell finished putting on his seatbelt before he looked up expectantly.

"Yes, Andy?" He said and Andrew smiled at him.

"If you ever get tired of me, just break up with me, alright? Don’t cheat on me. I don’t think I’d survive if you slept with another while with me." Maxwell gasped, his mouth hanging open before he reached out, grabbing his face as he paled.

"Where did that thought come from? Have I made you feel like I was doing that? I’ll fix it right away!" Andrew realised that now probably wasn’t the right time to bring up this topic, but it was too late. He’d already opened the box, so now he had to do damage control.

"You’ve done nothing to make me think that you don’t like me anymore. This is from my own insecurities, Max. I wouldn’t like it if you did it to me, so I would never do that to you. I’m just looking for confirmation that if you get tired of me, you’ll just tell me." Maxwell scanned his face desperately, making sure that was true before he huffed, and pulled Andrew closer for a quick kiss.

Andrew was sure his eyes were amber when Maxwell pulled away.

"Baby, I’ll never get tired of you, but I’ll promise, okay? I’ll be honest with you if that ever comes to pass, which it won’t." Maxwell said firmly. "I was the one who thought we were just having a simple argument when you thought our relationship was over, so clearly I didn’t want it to end." Maxwell grumbled, and Andrew laughed. He leaned into Maxwell’s touch, pressing his forehead against his.

"Yeah. I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you for saying it. Shall we get takeout and make out on the couch when we get home?" Maxwell’s eyes lit up.

"Can we touch each other?" Maxwell bargained and Andrew grumbled.

"No. You know better. I’m already giving in, don’t push it. If we end up kissing on the couch, there’s a high chance we could end up kissing in the bedroom, and I can already imagine where things could go." Andrew told him and Maxwell pressed his lips against Andrew’s, pulling his face away as he sat back in his seat, much to Andrew’s pout.

Maxwell gave a laugh, his smile coming easy, light. It was good to see after he’d been so nervous over the last few days. Andrew was glad that he’d waited before getting really intimate with the man. It could have soothed something in him right away, but this still felt like the right thing to do.

"Let’s not get takeout, and instead go out to eat instead. That way, we can get right to making out when we get home." Maxwell teased, reaching over and giving Andrew’s thigh a squeeze. Andrew’s cock jerked.

"Maxwell Beckett." Andrew ground out between his teeth, and Maxwell let out a tinkling laugh. He slapped Andrew’s thigh before he drew his hand away, turning his gaze towards the windows around them, still smiling. Andrew felt his heart racing in his chest, his pulse fast, and his pheromones had to be a mess.

It was good to have him back even a little bit to normal.
