Chapter 246: A brief moment of jealousy
It was kind of nice to talk to everyone about their plans. Maxwell was going along with Andrew’s words, and had even gotten up and grabbed the list that Andrew had made before. May smirked as she read the list, and Ford chuckled as well. Thomas and Luis didn’t think any of it was too hard to find, while Kim and Jenny were thinking about the house that they had suggested that they view the next day.
They were waiting while both of the realtors from Thomas and Kim were busy, at this time of night, getting a list mocked up for Maxwell and Andrew to look at the next day.
Andrew wouldn’t lie and say that he wasn’t a little upset that he didn’t get to do all of this with just Maxwell, but he also understood he didn’t have to make a choice tomorrow. Or even the day after. The people around him just wanted to help.
Andrew, like Maxwell, needed to accept that they just wanted to help. Like Maxwell, he needed to be more open to it, and he needed to not freak out that others wanted, and could, help him. It wasn’t a personal attack. He was capable of doing things himself, but why would he do that when he didn’t need to?
Coming to terms with that was hard, especially right now. Maxwell was having just as much of a hard time, but he wasn’t as obvious as Andrew was being. May was poking fun at Andrew, needling him in a way that didn’t upset him, but instead made him flustered and red in the face.
Ford wasn’t any better. He just did it with a softer hand. They were leaving Maxwell alone, mostly, except for a few jabs at him, and demands for hugs when Maxwell looked like he was getting too flustered. It was all in good fun, and it appeared as if Maxwell was okay with it, but Andrew was getting a little testy.
He was beginning to feel the same way that he had felt about Maxwell when he had been in his heat. Possessive. Aggressive. Wanting to hide him away from the others.
It was when Andrew actually snapped at May, his eyes glowing amber pits in his face that everyone realised he’d probably reached his limit.
Kim snorted, turning to Jenny.
"Do I look like that before my rut?" She commented, but everyone was moving away from Andrew and Maxwell, giving them some space. Maxwell had his arms on Andrew’s, releasing his pheromones to wrap them around Andrew, trying to calm him down.
Andrew’s heart was racing and he could hear his pulse in his ears. His palms were sweaty, his teeth felt sharp in his mouth, and his body was shaking. He wasn’t sure if it was because he wanted to lunge at May for getting too close to his omega, or if it was because he wanted to grab him in his arms and rush to somewhere he could tuck him away. Safe. Away from the alphas that were going to try to take him away.
"You do, actually. I think Andy is holding up very well for someone whose traits have been so obvious and aggressive since he manifested." Jenny said, praising him. The words washed over Andrew’s back, but May made a soft noise of agreement.
As she was the one who set him off, she was the furthest away. Closer to the door then anyone else, her nose buried in Ford’s neck, inhaling his scent. Andrew was pretty sure betas didn’t have a scent, but that wasn’t something he cared about right now.
Luis and Thomas were the closest to the younger couple. Andrew wasn’t as aware of them since they were bonded, fully, and also blood related to his omega. That meant they were less of a threat. Kim and Jenny were in between the other two couples. Not quite at the door, not quite as close as Thomas and Luis.
"He is holding up pretty well, even if I am sure he can’t quite hear us. Max, dear, can you turn his head and put it into the crook of your neck. Climb him if you need to. He shouldn’t bite you, he just needs to know you’re there." Jenny suggested and Maxwell glanced up at the man who had stiffened the moment May got a little too close. Too much joking.
He swallowed.
"Alright. I’ll trust you." Maxwell said, grabbing onto his shoulders and using that to pull himself up. He wrapped his hand around Andrew’s head, jerking it into the crook of his neck. His neck that was covered in a shirt, but also covered in Andrew’s scent.
Slowly, like colour leaching into white fabric, Andrew slowly began to stir. When he took a few deep breaths and his hands began to move, Kim relaxed.
"Well well, look who is among the living again." Kim teased, her own eyes amber in her face. She had been ready to defend them if Andrew had taken a turn for the worse. It was a worse case scenario, and knowing Andrew personally, wasn’t very likely. He wasn’t physical in that sense, but it never hurt to be cautious.
Andrew wrapped his arms around the man who had pressed his neck against his face, Maxwell’s hand still in his hair.
"What happened?" Andrew asked, his voice feeling gravely and low. Maxwell chuckled.
"You snapped at May." Andrew seemed shocked.
"What? I don-" Andrew gulped as he remembered what he had done. Uh oh.
He turned his body, unable to remove his face from Maxwell’s throat. He was back, but his impulses were riding his ass.
"I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to do that. I didn’t think I would ever do that." Andrew apologised, meaning it, and May’s expression relaxed. Her eyes were bright, but unlike Kim, they didn’t change colour. She pulled her face from Ford’s throat, giving a chuckle.
"It’s okay, Andy. You’re fresh. Newly made. It’s okay that you were declaring your territory. I’m not upset. But I’m not going to forget that. Expect that in my speech at your wedding." Andrew’s face flushed and Maxwell’s body shook as he laughed.
"I expect more in your speech than that, May." Maxwell teased. Andrew’s hands began to sweat, and Andrew’s grip on him tightened. May’s eyes widened, and Maxwell shifted, wrapping his arms around Andrew’s head. "Really? Andrew, are you getting jealous that I’m speaking to her?" Andrew opened his mouth, about to attempt to defend himself. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
He found that he couldn’t do so. He was jealous. He didn’t want his omega speaking to anyone that was a threat. Anyone that would take him away.
"Andy. I have no desire for Maxy. You know that in the logical part of your brain." Andrew swallowed thickly.
"No. I know that. I do. I just...I think you’re going to take him away from me. I can’t get that fear out of me." Andrew admitted and Maxwell exhaled.
"Oh Baby." Maxwell whispered. "They wouldn’t do that. You’re doing very well for an alpha, a true alpha, on the cusp of a rut. You’re speaking, you’re relatively rational. You even hung out with everyone and played nice for this long. It’s okay. This is just a hiccup. They aren’t going to take me away from you." Maxwell’s fingers and hands in his hair soothed a part of him and he was finally able to take a deep breath without a lump in his chest.
"I’m sorry. We were waiting for the realtors to get back to us, weren’t we? I just...if you can forgive the position Max is in right now, I think I’m fine to continue speaking. We should at least hammer out the details for tomorrow before everyone leaves." Andrew said, his face warm, his eyes glowing in the darkness cast by Maxwell’s body around his own.
Kim started laughing.
"Your Mom would be so proud of you for holding on, Andrew. Is it okay if we sit down again?" She asked and Andrew felt gentled. He knew that she might have just said it to get him to calm down, but he appreciated it. It did help.
He had to do some self reflecting, before he nodded, allowing them to approach again. Thankfully, it was only a few moments later that the realtors both got back to Thomas and Kim. Maxwell was able to add everything to a calendar on his phone, even from his position and Andrew just held him. He was able to listen and absorb what everyone was saying, but he felt like a little kid with his favourite stuffed animal.
He was overwhelmed, and Maxwell was the stuffed animal that was soothing him, calming him down. He knew he’d be better when they were gone. Damn it. He had hoped he would be better than this. He felt like a failure, but Kim’s reminder floated into his mind, along with Maxwell’s words and he would relax again. He was doing a good job. He could make it through this. He could.
Kim and the others let themselves out, letting them know that they would be back around 11 am tomorrow, at least Thomas and Luis, to go visit the houses that his realtor had set up for them. Kim had arranged for her realtor to show them places on Sunday. They could discuss what they wanted to do in the evening after.
For now, Andrew was at his limit of allowing other alphas in his house with his omega. Now it was time to curl up with him, keep him safe, and relish in the pheromones he emitted that were his.
They were his.
