Chapter 276: It’s not just Maxwell’s wedding

"What if I don’t want a spring wedding?" Andrew asked tentatively, just to see. Maxwell turned to look at him, and he could feel Thomas and Luis look at him as well.

"You don’t? Did you have a particular season you wanted? I’m a little opposed to fall since that is when Ben and Amir got married, but I am open to all of them. Even...Even winter. As long as it’s inside." Maxwell said, laying down the law. Andrew didn’t actually have any protest to the fact that it was in spring, he just didn’t like that they were discussing this without his input.

But seeing Maxwell stare up at him, his blue eyes sparkling as he stared at Andrew made the man just melt. What was he trying to do? What was he trying to say? He was going to go along with whatever Maxwell wanted. He had very few strong opinions when it came to weddings, especially his own.

"I don’t really care what season. I just don’t like how it feels like you guys are planning this without me." Andrew said, pouting. Maxwell’s eyes widened, before he glanced at his parents. They seemed a little shocked as well, before Luis’ expression softened.

"Oh Andy. There isn’t a wedding without you in it. Mm. Let’s discuss this again when Andrew isn’t in the last throes of his rut, hmm? I think we’ll have a better time then, and no one will get that upset. Plus, Amir might be upset that he was excluded from the talks." Luis said, a smile on her face, in her eyes. Thomas laughed.

"Just Amir? Ben will be livid if he isn’t involved. Will, well, he’s been..." They grew silent, some of the joy leaving their face as they brought up the third Beckett son. Andrew could sense something wasn’t quite right.

"Is something wrong with William?" Andrew asked. He couldn’t tell if they wanted someone to ask about him, or if they wanted to leave it. From the reaction they gave after the words left his mouth, it was the latter.

"Nothing out of the ordinary." Thomas said, sighing. He ran a hand through his black hair. He suddenly looked exhausted. "He was caught in another cheating scandal. Rue’s family is at our necks, pissed that this keeps happening. We have a meeting with Rue later today to discuss what steps they want to take moving forward." Oo. That did not sound good.

When Andrew looked at Maxwell, he seemed upset, but it didn’t appear to be a new type. Andrew already knew that William was a serial cheater, but that didn’t mean it made it easier on his family when he did it. Especially when they all appeared to like his fiance, and there was an obvious reason that they were still together.

"Does William not like Rue?" Andrew asked and Maxwell let out a deep sigh.

"No. He actually has told us that he quite likes Rue." Maxwell told him, and that only confused Andrew more. He had to know that his actions were hurting the person he cared about, right? He wasn’t an idiot. Hell, the man was a Doctor, and was in charge of a damn hospital that his family ran. He wasn’t allowed to be an idiot.

"Is it some kind of weird test?" Andrew asked and Luis and Thomas flinched.

"We...have asked that, too. We’ve also told Rue that they can leave. We won’t hold it against him. He’s stayed so far, but this time..." Luis’ face crumbled. "This time I think was the nail in the coffin. Oh William. When will he ever learn?" Luis sounded quite upset, and Andrew could understand.

How do you defend a child who hurts others? There was a reason William wasn’t around as much as the other brothers. He probably felt awkward since his actions were so frowned upon. That, and he did seem to get into arguments whenever he was around his family.

Like Maxwell used to do. Or, Andrew was pretty sure, just like he used to do. Rue was able to bridge the gap between William and his parents, but William didn’t appear to want to follow him across the bridge.

"I’m sorry to hear that. When I’m a little better, and Maxy is feeling better as well, we should have dinner." Andrew said and they both stared at him and Andrew smiled. "If I’m going to marry into this family, I should spend more time getting to know everyone. Just because William and I have known each other since our university days doesn’t mean that we truly know each other. Honestly, it sounds like he knew me more than I knew him." Andrew said with a smile. "Plus, I am nosy when it comes to my family. You can ask Rose, or Richard. I was a rather annoying addition to their household." Andrew said with a smile.

He was slightly surprised, but not upset when Maxwell hugged him tightly, pressing his face against his chest.

"I’ve already spoken to Rosie about it. She said that you were a blessing in disguise." Luis said, a smile in her tone. "In fact, she said it while you were around, but your rut must have clouded your mind since you don’t remember." Andrew flushed. She must have said it during their dinner at the restaurant. Andrew would admit, he was struggling during that time. Their waiter being an alpha had really kept him on high alert, and he was also focused on making sure that he paid for the bill.

"Speaking of, don’t think we’ve forgotten what you did." Thomas said, as if he was able to hear what Andrew was thinking. Andrew felt his lips curl up at the bitterness in his tone.

"Oh yeah? Well, you better get ready for a competition. I don’t like losing, and I’m sneaky. As Max." Andrew said, tightening his arms around the man still holding onto him. He released him when Maxwell pulled away. He was smiling as he turned to face his parents.

"He can be quite sneaky, despite his tall stature. You should be worried. And I won’t stand down either." Maxwell said with a sparkle in his eyes. His parents stiffened, not in anger, but it was clear that they were rising to the challenge. His Mom smiled, her eyes calculating.

"Very well. I hope you two are prepared as well. We won’t take this sitting down." She declared and Andrew felt a little bit of joy filling him as they were fighting, making declarations like they were going to go to war. All over paying a few checks at a restaurant. This was so...it felt so nice and warm that Andrew couldn’t stop the smile splitting his face.

"You might." He teased, and Thomas narrowed his gaze.

"We should let you two go, before we get even more worked up. Max, take as much time as you need. We have both of your backs." Thomas told him, and Andrew felt his heart squeeze. Thomas smiled. "Ben says the same thing. He’s actually a little bit upset that you’re already working, even if it’s from home. He told me to tell you that you two should be spending your time in each other’s company, not working." Thomas let out a soft laugh. "I know you’re a little too much like me for that to stick, but I can tell you two are making it work. It’s good to see that you are both doing well. We’ll see you both soon." Thomas said and Luis smiled.

"Yes, we will. Christmas season is soon approaching, so both of you wrap your head around that. Andy, you are obviously invited to our Christmas party." She raised her eyebrows, a little twist to her smile. "It’s quite the grand stage for a proposal, if I do say so myself." She teased and Andrew felt his face warm as Maxwell chuckled.

"I might be warming up to public displays of affection, but even I think that might be too much." Maxwell told her and she laughed.

"Understood." She said, her blue eyes warm. "I’ll try not to bring it up again." When Maxwell gave her a look she laughed. "I said I’ll try. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to have a hard time bringing it up." She said and Andrew chuckled.

"How about you wait until we bring it up? I’m sure, both Maxy and I will have it on our minds sooner rather than later. After all, we’re looking for a house together. Marriage shouldn’t be too far behind." Andrew said, his face warm. Luis’ face broke into a wide smile.

"Oh yes. Of course. Well, I’ll remind myself of that instead of getting ahead of myself. I wouldn’t want to exclude either of you from your own wedding planning. Amir’s grandmother certainly put me in my place when I got overly excited last time, and I doubt May or Kim would be any better." Andrew felt his heart warm at the mention of Amir’s grandparents. He hoped they were doing well.

"It’s not May you should be looking out for. It’s Ford." Andrew told her, surprising everyone.

"Really? I wouldn’t have anticipated that." No one ever did. The man kept his controlling behaviours, his needs to himself. But there was a reason the house was the way it was. Ford liked it that way. His plant room was meticulous. Everyone usually made the mistake of thinking that it was May who was the controlling one because she was the alpha. Ford, however, could give any alpha a run for their money.

Never maliciously. He let his children do what they wanted for the most part, but he could definitely see how Ford could have been a monster-in-law when it came to Jordan and Rose’s marriage. He was sure there was a reason beyond Andrew flaking on them for it that it wasn’t brought up.

He should ask Richard about it when he was feeling better, and could go back to work.

"He tries to keep it under wraps for the most part. But yeah. Either way, we should let you two go. I need to finish making the scones I was working on." Andrew said and both of them nodded.

"Of course. Goodbye, you two. Do try to get some rest, will you?" Thomas said and Maxwell scoffed.

"I could say the same back to you." He told his Father, and Thomas’ lips twitched.

"Touché." Thomas said as Andrew and Maxwell waved and then the call ended. Maxwell let out a sigh, before he turned and buried his face into Andrew’s chest again.

"Damn it. I wish I wasn’t sore." Maxwell muttered and Andrew laughed, running his hands along his back.

"Hmm? Why?" He asked and Maxwell looked up at him through his lashes, his face pressed against his pecs.

"Because I want to have sex with you right now." Maxwell’s words were muffled but Andrew heard them loud and clear.

"Damn it Maxy. I’m trying to be good." Andrew growled, his repressed urges rearing their heads. He’d been trying to be on his best behaviour, even if his desire to bury his face in Maxwell’s ass was still there, and his cock hadn’t stopped being hard even as he baked.

Maxwell chuckled.

"Good boys get rewards, don’t they? Come here." Maxwell demanded and Andrew whined. He couldn’t resist this man, even if he knew he should.

"We don’t have enough condoms." Andrew reminded him and Maxwell chuckled.

"Andy, you just need to learn how to pull out, alright?" Andrew felt his sense of reason fade. Damn it. He wasn’t with it enough to refuse him. He just nodded, and Maxwell chuckled as he raised up, kissing Andrew’s jaw. "Good boy." Andrew could feel his desire take over. Damn it.

His scones were probably going to have to wait a little bit longer.
