Chapter 293: A well earned good feeling

Andrew made his escape before any more questions could be asked. He could feel them brewing up from everyone who saw him. Mr. Kensington was clearly regretting not getting Andrew’s phone number now, and Andrew was a little bit grateful he didn’t have a business card now.

He just knew his line would be blowing up with calls and texts about who the fuck he actually was. Andrew hustled, trying to get out of the building as soon as he could, and once in the car, he took a minute to breathe.

He hadn’t expected any of what happened there. Not how quickly he was ’believed’ nor running into Mr. Dalton, whose name he couldn’t remember until Mr. Kensington had said it. Thank goodness for that. He quickly sent Kim a message saying that he had run into Mr. Dalton at May’s workplace, and asked for a few more details about the man since he didn’t want to be caught off guard again next time.

He then sent a message to Maxwell, letting him know that the meeting was done. He thinks that it had a good outcome, but could he swing by his office to talk to him about some other things that came up as he was leaving?

Maxwell responded back with lightning speed letting him know that his meeting would likely have just wrapped up by the time he got back to the office, so he could just head up and wait for him there. Andrew was pleased to see his response, and then he shot off a message to Rose, letting her know that everything seemed okay for May’s leave of absence? He would know when Ford spoke to Mr. Kensington for sure.

Rose didn’t respond, clearly still in her meeting and Andrew sighed before he finally turned on the car, pulled on his seatbelt, and headed back to his workplace, his chest feeling a little lighter.

When he got back to the office, everything was fine. Nothing had caught fire, Andrew hadn’t had a breakdown, he felt...good. Andrew had completed his first official solo mission since he’d manifested and he felt like he could walk on air. Everything was a bit different, but in a good way.

Andrew sent a text to Maxwell, letting him know he was back at the office and heading up to his, and he also sent a text to Dr. Cox, letting her know that he was back but had to speak to Maxwell first.

She sent back a little winky face, and Andrew had a feeling that it wasn’t Dr. Cox at all who responded. He took it in good faith to mean that he was okay and they didn’t need him right away.

Andrew took the elevator up, his hands in the pockets of his pants as he waited. When he stepped out on Maxwell’s floor and rounded the corner, the secretaries ’ooed’ and ’ahhed’ at Andrew’s appearance, complimenting him on his suit. Andrew easily told them that Maxwell had helped him pick it out and they easily said that they knew that. Complimenting Maxwell’s taste in clothing.

Andrew knew that they were sucking up to him, but he didn’t mind. Praise for Maxwell was how you got to Andrew’s heart. Mr. Newman was shaking his head, typing away on his computer, a small frown on his lips.

"Is Max almost finished his meeting?" Andrew asked and Mr. Newman checked the time.

"Should be done in five minutes. Mr. Beckett doesn’t like it when meetings drag on, unless it’s a serious conversation. This is just an update on projects, so it should be done in five minutes." He told Andrew and Andrew nodded.

"I’m free to wait in his office?" Andrew asked and Mr. Newman looked up, smiling at Andrew.

"Of course you are." He told him warmly and Andrew smiled back at him, waved to the rest of the team, and turned to open Maxwell’s office door. Once inside the large space, Andrew took a moment to poke around. Nothing too crazy, just a classic snoop.

See if he had any snacks hidden away, or liquor or maybe some other things like maybe he had a blanket or something here.

Maxwell kept his liquor out so that everyone could see what he was drinking and he could use it as a flex. Very Maxwell of him. He did have a snack drawer, and a little mini fridge that was hidden by a wooden panel for aesthetics. No blankets anywhere, until Andrew looked behind his desk and found a blanket in the footwell of his desk. Maxwell used it to cover up his lap.

That was cute as well, but there wasn’t anything too risqué. Outside of one drawer that Andrew had checked last minute, curious and what Andrew found made him blush a little.

A full box, nay, a drawer full of the new condoms that Michael had told them to use. Right next to the door so he could grab them and head out.

Damn it, he loved the man too much.

Andrew eventually sat himself down on the soft couches in the room after grabbing himself a water to sip on as he waited. He didn’t mind. The room was full of Maxwell’s scent so it was like he was back at his own home and after being out and about, it felt like a reward.

Andrew got to bask in his scent for a little bit before Maxwell slammed the door connecting his office to the meeting room open, scanning the area for Andrew and Andrew lit up when Maxwell’s gaze landed on him.

"Max!" Andrew exclaimed warmly and Maxwell slammed the door behind him, marching towards Andrew and climbed into his lap without another word.

"I was so worried about you being out there on your own." Maxwell murmured. "I tried to be calm and supportive, but I could barely focus on the quarterly meeting." Maxwell admitted and Andrew melted. Ever since their fight Maxwell had been opening up to him like this. Andrew loved the snapshots of how he thought. What thoughts filled Maxwell’s mind.

"I wasn’t too worried. I knew you’d have my back no matter what, and honestly, it was a lot calmer than I thought it would be. I was ready for there to be a fight, but Mr. Kensington wasn’t that kind of guy. I should have anticipated that, since May has worked with him for so long. She’s not the kind of woman who would take that kind of crap." Andrew said, and Maxwell squeezed him tightly, holding onto him in a koala-esque hold.

Andrew wasn’t complaining. Having Maxwell pressed against him? Anytime, anywhere.

"Thank you for saying so, doesn’t change how worried I was." Maxwell told him. He was rubbing his face against Andrew, like he was a cat marking him with his scent. Andrew didn’t mind in the slightest, putting his water bottle to the side so he could hold the man with both of his hands.

"I know. It’s okay. I was actually really proud at how well I did." Andrew told him and Maxwell jerked.

"I should be praising you for how well you did instead of telling you about my worries." Maxwell said, about to pull away and Andrew tightened his grip, holding the man back from doing so.

"No. No no. I don’t care, Maxy. You are allowed to complain. I want you to complain to me. I like seeing into your thoughts, I’m just telling you mine. It’s okay. I’m not criticizing you for caring about me. Though I am a little worried that you weren’t able to focus on work." Andrew said and Maxwell relaxed in his arms. His soft breaths against Andrew’s throat had him swallowing as Andrew could feel himself responding to holding Maxwell, but that was just his reality.

He had a feeling that was going to always happen. He didn’t mind. He was too handsome, pretty and smelled too good for Andrew’s peace of mind. What a tragedy for Andrew.

"Sorry. I’m just a little jittery. It went well?" Maxwell confirmed and Andrew nodded.

"Yeah. But uh, something happened as I was leaving Mr. Kensington’s office." Maxwell went still.

"A bad thing?" He asked carefully and Andrew huffed.

"I don’t think so? I ran into one, if not the first investor of my Mom’s company. Mr. Dalton?" Andrew said and Maxwell exhaled quietly.

"He was the first investor into your Mom’s company?" Maxwell asked and Andrew nodded.

"It’s a bad thing I don’t know how big of a name he is, isn’t it?" Andrew asked and Maxwell’s shoulders began to shake as he laughed.

"Uh, well, that depends. How did that meeting go?" Maxwell asked and Andrew let out a soft sigh.

"He likes me. He spoke fondly of my Mom, bragged about who I was. I hadn’t told Mr. Kensington anything like that. Like how I was the son of Diane Knox who created the A & D Firm, nor that I was dating you. It kind of just sounded like bragging when I was just trying to get him to believe me that I was there speaking for May. Felt...I don’t know, pointless to bring up?" Andrew said and Maxwell snorted.

"So he really likes you, huh? I had no idea. Have you met him before? No wait, we spoke to him or you spoke to him at the wedding. I saw you two and Kim together." Maxwell muttered and Andrew squeezed him.

"Yeah. I wouldn’t say I remembered his name if Mr. Kensington hadn’t said it again. He’s a sweet guy. Very lovely. Very loud." Andrew said and Maxwell snorted.

"Andy, my sweet, sweet boy. He’s one of the richest men alive. He only invests in companies he thinks will make him billions. Not millions. The fact that he invested in your Mom’s company is...fuck. I’ve been trying to get him on board for a while." Maxwell muttered. Andrew gave him a squeeze.

"Well, you’re in luck. He said I was part of the reason he signed up to back my Mom’s company, and he wants me to meet his husband at your parent’s Christmas party. He also wants to speak to you. He also said that he liked your company." Andrew told him and Maxwell let out a shuddering laugh.

"You don’t even know how much power you have, Andy. God, you’re so damn sweet. Just how much did you brag about me?" Maxwell asked and Andrew grinned, pressing a kiss against Maxwell’s lips when he pulled back. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Not telling."
