Chapter 301: I’ve never bought a house like this before
The house talks went far smoother than Andrew needed to worry about. Maxwell had been right, as had Kim and Jenny. The owners of the house didn’t want to sell to just anyone. They had wanted to sell it to someone who was going to make it a home, and not just use it for what they called ’show and tell’.
It was a bit unorthodox, but they asked if they could have a phone call with Andrew and Maxwell, just to confirm what they wanted to do outside of the fact that Maxwell and Andrew were considering putting money down on the place.
It was scheduled during their down time, so lunch time, and Andrew and Maxwell gathered in Maxwell’s office, two days later, and spoke to the current owners of the house.
They seemed nice, and Andrew was upfront that they would have to make some changes to the building because there was such a significant height difference between Maxwell and Andrew. They would have to put in moving shelves and countertops so that if Maxwell wanted to cook, he could do so, or if anyone else came over to the house as well. They also explained that while they liked the house, they had to move quicker because they had a dependent moving in with them and that they wanted to get a place ready for them as soon as possible.
Andrew had revealed these things, wanting to be upfront while Maxwell had frowned beside him. Andrew had a feeling that while Maxwell was a bit upset that Andrew was being candid, the current owners weren’t going to be upset about it. It was going to be their house if they bought it, because they were buying it together, and it was well within their rights to change things as long as it was interior things. Exterior things? Andrew didn’t care too much about it. The house was pretty on the outside, and they also didn’t need to get all of the changes they wanted to do, done right away.
The house was move in ready, they just needed to make adjustments to make it a home for Andrew and Maxwell. And Richard.
The phone call lasted the full lunch break. The owners asking lots of questions, so much that Andrew could tell that Maxwell was getting riled up but Andrew just took his hand, holding it in his own and giving it a squeeze. At the end, they sighed, and then told them that they were relieved. They sounded like they were really intent on moving into this place, and that they were, respectfully, telling them to go fuck themselves.
Andrew had been a little stunned when they had said that, before they had laughed. They promised that was a good thing. All of the other people who had called hadn’t been as honest with them as Andrew had been, and it was less about what they wanted to do, and more about the fact that they wanted to make it a home.
Everyone else they had been on a phone call with had just tried to kiss ass instead of being honest with the owners. They then told Andrew and Maxwell the offer they were willing to accept, about $100 000 below what the asking price was, and hung up.
Andrew and Maxwell shared a look, shocked, before Andrew burst into laughter.
"I’ve never been on a phone call like that before, but that seemed positive?" Andrew suggested and Maxwell collapsed onto Andrew, groaning.
"Apparently. I felt half of my patience for the day disappear though." Maxwell murmured. Andrew chuckled.
"I’ll warn Mr. Newman as I leave. You still going to eat your lunch? Take five minutes. Make your next meeting wait." Andrew said and Maxwell nodded.
"Kiss before you leave?" Maxwell asked, his eyes big and Andrew couldn’t deny him. He was also noticing how much Maxwell was asking for his attention lately. Not that Andrew was ever going to bring it up and get him self-conscious and stop.
Hell no. Andrew wasn’t a damn idiot.
He was just liking that he was being honest outside of their house. That he didn’t care when Andrew came asking for affection, that he wasn’t hiding him.
That Maxwell was just as proud to call Andrew his partner as Andrew was of calling Maxwell his.
Andrew gave Maxwell his kisses and maybe a little bit more than that before he left, heading back to work. It was tonight that they were going to take Richard off of the medication since his pheromones were lightening and it appeared as if he was out of the heat portion of his manifestation.
That meant that once he was off the medication, he could wake up shortly after, or after sleeping some more. May and Ford were nervous, and Andrew couldn’t blame them. The good news? Richard would remain at the company for a little bit longer for monitoring reasons, and also to check and see how he reacted to pheromones.
If he had a really negative reaction, like Maxwell had feared for Andrew, they would be able to help him from a place that could be cleared of all pheromones rather quickly. Andrew just hoped that Richard didn’t wake up in the middle of the night, and either woke up right away, or in the morning.
He would come running if he did wake up in the middle of the night, but still. It was the principle of it.

Andrew and Maxwell joined the family in the basement level where Richard was being kept. Rose and Jordan had also joined them for this moment and May clung to Rose and Ford’s hand, everyone pulling support from each other.
Dr. Liu was here, as she was the one who had clearance to do anything involving Richard. They waited until Maxwell got here, before they began the procedure. It wasn’t anything too crazy, stuff Andrew had seen before, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t nerve-wracking.
Rose and May were shaking, while Ford was trying to be a strong force for them. Andrew’s heart grew by three sizes when Maxwell, without prompting, went to Ford’s side, taking his hand and giving it a squeeze. Jordan and Andrew hung back, Jordan looking just as nervous as the rest of the family, but he didn’t want to be at the forefront and Andrew just towered over everyone else.
Dr. Liu remained in the room, checking over Richard and making sure that the data they were getting was correct. After a moment, she came to the door and instead of looking at anyone else, she turned to Andrew.
"Dr. Nice, can you come here for a second?" She asked and everyone looked at him. Andrew swallowed, before he nodded and made his way towards her. She took a step outside of the room, writing something on the clipboard she had in her hand before she looked up at him. "You’ve been around Dr. Gates’ pheromones already. As I am an omega, I can tell when he’s in the throes of his heat, but not the more subtle notes. You can say no, but would it be possible for you to come join me in the room and check to see if he’s truly out of his heat?" She asked and Andrew glanced at Maxwell and the others.
Maxwell didn’t even hesitate. The rest of the group had heard her words, and Maxwell gave him a thumbs up. He had complete faith in Andrew, and when he went down the line he could tell that the others did too. Andrew turned back to Dr. Liu with a bit more confidence and nodded slowly.
"I-I can do that." He agreed, nervous. He wiped his hands on his pants and she gave him a soft smile.
"It shouldn’t take too long. I’ll ask you to stop at the door, and at each of the markers on the floor to see if you can scent him. If you can press your nose against his skin and still not smell it, he’s out of the first stage of manifestation." She told him rather coldly, and Andrew was glad for it. It was a procedure, something normal. He was just being used because he was convenient. Andrew could live with that.
Andrew nodded again, and it was only after Dr. Liu had finished jotting down her notes on the clipboard that she began. She opened the door first, asking Andrew if he could smell anything. He shook his head no.
Then he stepped into the room. Again, nothing, and he proceeded through about five checkpoints before he got near the bed. It was rather thorough, but Andrew understood the reasons for it. If he was an alpha and he reacted to an omega in heat poorly, that few inches was a crucial amount between someone’s life changing forever.
With each step, Andrew felt a little more calm, a little less worried. Andrew didn’t pick up anything from Richard until they were next to his bed.
Dr. Liu halted when Andrew told her that he smelt his pheromones.
"Is it...potent?" She asked, aware that he was also newly manifested. He had a rather serious consideration about it, before he turned to Dr. Liu.
"This may seem rude, but would you be able to emit just a small amount of your pheromones, Dr. Liu? I just want to confirm what ’potent’ means." Dr. Liu nodded, easily agreeing to his request. Her pheromones were light, with a floral note to them as well. They weren’t as aggressive as Maxwell’s or Richard’s, which helped Andrew understand that the soft floral scent that he was picking up that smelled like roses wasn’t the same level that Richard had produced before.
Andrew felt his lips turn up slightly.
"It doesn’t appear to be as potent. Thank you, Dr. Liu." Andrew said and she let out a soft exhale.
"Thank goodness. I’m glad to hear it. We’ll continue moving through each step, but that’s a good sign. He should be leaking out regular pheromones now, not heat ones." Dr. Liu told Andrew, and Andrew nodded. They finished the test, Andrew pressing his nose against Richard’s wrist, not his neck since Andrew was in a relationship, brother-like bond or otherwise, and Andrew let out a relieved noise.
"It’s only slightly potent. He should be out of his heat in a few hours would be my guess." Andrew told her and she nodded, relief on her face as well. She’d been doing her best to remain professional, but this got to her. She closed her eyes, remaining still after she wrote that note down as if she was overcome with emotion. Andrew wanted to hug her, but had a feeling that she wasn’t that kind of person.
"Thank you, Dr. Nice. If you wouldn’t mind letting the others know?" She suggested and Andrew left, letting her have a moment while he also let the others know the good news. Now, his family could finally be in the room with him. He wouldn’t be alone when he woke up.
