Chapter 291: Immoral Professor

Gara told Ambar about his successful experiment the very same day.

But the chief of the Alchemist Association had been busy reorganizing everything after winning another period as chief.

Only today did Ambar finally have time to summon him to the association.

"Be careful, okay."

Gara had already heard that line countless times from several people, because according to the healer who examined him, this week was his due date.

He had hoped to rest for the entire week, not stepping out of the dimensional space at all.

Unfortunately, because he was hiding his pregnancy, he couldn’t avoid everything.

This summons from Ambar, too, was something he couldn’t decline.

Gara arrived in front of the association building. His body felt fine so far. Even when meeting Ambar, he didn’t feel anything unusual.

He immediately explained in detail the experiment he performed with the chrona and one-night flowers.

"How many times have I praised your brilliance, Gara? Well, I’ll say it again." Ambar patted his shoulder.

"Don’t worry. I’ll make sure your name is recorded as the person who discovered a flower capable of extending the lifespan of other living beings."

"Thank you, Chief," Gara replied.

He truly felt lucky that the chief alchemist happened to be someone like Ambar. She was an ambitious woman, but one who genuinely respected talented people.

’In my previous world, my boss would’ve claimed my work as his own. But Chief Ambar... she’s nothing like that.’

Ambar then told Gara her plan to continue the association’s collaborative project once the chrona flowers were harvested.

"For the one-night flower, you only needed powdered chrona mixed in. But other organisms may require a different process. That’s why we still need a large amount of chrona."

Gara nodded. "By the tenth month at the latest, the chrona should be ready for harvest."

Ambar’s grin widened. "If you need any equipment from the lab, just come here. I can even prepare a private lab for you."

It was an amazing offer. Only senior alchemists were allowed private labs in this building.

Gara, who had joined less than a year ago, was still far from senior level, even if his contributions already placed him firmly in the "rising star" category.

He chose to decline. He was far more comfortable keeping everything inside his own space.

Besides, he had already ordered a lot of new equipment from Weldon.

Ambar seemed like she still wanted to chat, but suddenly, Gara felt a sharp pain in his stomach.

At first it was mild. Then it grew into a stabbing, twisting ache. It felt like cramps, but not quite.

Gara’s face instantly drained of color as he tried to hold back the pain. His hand clutched his shirt, palm slick with cold sweat.

Ambar noticed immediately. "Are you in pain, Gara? Here, I have a painkiller."

Gara quickly shook his head. "I have my own, Chief."

Ambar remembered that Gara’s painkillers were on par with the expensive, limited-edition ones alchemists prized.

Gara stood up, hurriedly excusing himself. Ambar could only let him go, watching his retreating figure with growing worry.

Outside the building, a staff member was already waiting for him. Gara was grateful he didn’t need to take a carriage to get back.

In an instant, he was already standing before the academy gates. Without even saying goodbye, he rushed in.

The staff didn’t mind. He could clearly see how much pain Gara was in.

Since it was Sunday, still early Sunday afternoon, the academy was nearly empty.

There wasn’t a single person in the dorm tower lobby. Gara headed straight into the pillar.

He struggled to keep himself from collapsing on the floating stone. As the name suggested, only the stone platform floated. Meanwhile, the pillar walls on the sides couldn’t be touched at all.

The floating stone stopped on the sixth floor, and the pillar doors slid open.

Gara kept his head down, fighting the pain twisting in his abdomen.

He didn’t realize that just outside the pillar, a girl he knew had been watching him arrive.

The girl smirked, then shamelessly shoved Gara into the narrow gap of the still-opening pillar.

Already barely holding himself together, Gara was caught completely off guard. His body slipped into the gap just as the floating stone descended.

Woosh!

A flower pot shot up behind him, blocking his fall at the last moment.

Langga appeared from a corridor window. He sprinted toward Gara, pulling him away right before the pot shattered under the weight.

Gara might look slim, but being heavily pregnant meant his weight was not light at all.

Once his feet were safely on the ground, Gara managed to look up, seeing both Mona, who had pushed him, and Langga, who had saved him.

His fists clenched. ’Langga... is he really trying to put on a show at the cost of my life?!’

Before he could say anything, Mona screamed hysterically, "PROFESSOR LANGGA, WHY WOULD YOU SAVE HIM?!"

"He should’ve become a cripple! A dead ghost! He doesn’t deserve to exist! He stole you from me!" Mona’s eyes were bloodshot.

A knife flew out from under Langga’s robe, slicing through the air. Mona and Gara only saw a blur, then the blade was already pressed against Mona’s neck.

"P-Professor, w-what is this?" Mona stuttered, terrified.

Langga’s gaze sharpened into something deadly. "Don’t assume that just because I’ve been kind to you, I’ll tolerate everything you do, Mona Devoura."

Even though that glare wasn’t directed at him, chills ran down Gara’s spine. He immediately discarded the thoughts he had earlier.

Seeing how Langga reacted, it seemed the young professor had no idea about Mona’s plan. Maybe she’d simply acted on impulse the moment she saw Gara looking fragile.

But right now, the only thing that mattered was getting to his room so he could enter his space.

He didn’t dare drink niskara tea or take a painkiller before confirming whether this pain meant labor... or something else.

Gara left the two by the pillar and staggered toward his room.

Langga watched him go, then said coldly to Mona, "Today will be your last day in this academy."

He quickly followed after Gara, catching up in just a few steps. He gently pulled Gara’s hand and placed it over his shoulder.

"Let me help."

Gara didn’t have the strength to refuse, so he let Langga support him.

"Earlier, I accidentally followed you. You looked like you were in pain, so I... just kept going," Langga said.

Gara didn’t respond. He heard him, but every bit of his focus was on enduring the pain in his stomach.

When Gara remained silent, Langga let out a rough sigh. "Fine! I lied." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Gara might have laughed if he wasn’t in agony. ’He’s so weird. Why he suddenly said that?’

"I always watch you— your movements, your habits. Inside the academy, I follow you myself. Outside, I use others," Langga admitted without being asked.

Gara genuinely wanted to slap this stalker of a man. ’He’s nothing like the respectable professor the public thinks he is.’

Strangely, Gara didn’t feel uncomfortable. In fact, he found this version of Langga... easier to accept. Langga, who only looked morally upright on the outside, but whose real nature was far from it.

They reached Gara’s door. Without being told, Langga reached into the pocket of Gara’s robe, searching for the key.

"I saw you put it in this pocket," he said shamelessly.

And the key really was there. Langga unlocked the door, then handed the key back to Gara.

He didn’t enter. He just stood there at the doorway.

Seeing that, Gara whispered through clenched teeth, "Get inside and close the door."

Langga looked confused for a moment, but when he noticed Gara’s pained expression, he stepped inside and shut the door.

Only a few seconds after entering, the surroundings suddenly shifted. "W–What...?"

Gara didn’t answer. He just staggered toward the large white mansion in front of them.

Langga blinked several times, then hurried over and lifted Gara into his arms, carrying him bridal-style into the house.

He looked calm on the outside, but his mind was a mess. Gara was incomprehensible. When Langga acted like a normal, decent man, Gara treated him harshly. But the moment he revealed his darker side, Gara opened his most dangerous secret to him.

Once they stepped into the mansion, Gara weakly called out, "Mom... Della... Madha..."

"Gara’s mom! Della! Madha! Fian!" Langga called out in his place, shouting much louder.

Four people rushed down from the second floor. Panic filled their faces when they saw Gara’s condition. Fian and Madha even looked ready to attack Langga.

"I think I’m going into labor, Mom." Gara’s words stopped them instantly.

Langga halted at the base of the stairs. From his past spying, he knew that unless Gara allowed it, no one could pass the barrier to the second floor.

Madha quickly took Gara from Langga’s arms and ran upstairs. The others scattered, each rushing to their roles.

Langga was left alone at the bottom of the stairs. He wasn’t sure if he should go up or wait somewhere else.

But then, he caught a scent. A familiar one. And it came from the second floor.

Without realizing it, his feet began moving. Up the stairs. And surprisingly, the barrier didn’t stop him.

He walked toward one of the rooms, the scent getting stronger.

Outside the door, he heard the soft laughter of babies.

Langga’s heart pounded. "Was that... triplets?"
