They knew that Nan Xing is too timid to meet friends and thus as she told them about that tree, they just subconsciously thought that it was just a coping mechanism for her so she won’t feel lonely. Aside from this, who hasn’t had that kind of experience since childhood? They thought it would only pass naturally as she grew.
