Chapter 154: Arriving early

Hiroshi seeing that he was granted permission, hugged Haruki tightly and pressed his nose against Haruki’s neck inhaling deeply.

He had so many words to say at that moment, he wanted to scold Haruki for ignoring him for that long, but he put it into his actions hugging Haruki so tight it was as though he wanted to imprint the man into his body.

"Do you miss me that much?" Haruki asked clearly feeling the emotions the man was showing through the hug. He could understand that after all, they hadn’t spoken with each other or seen each other for days.

"Yes," Hiroshi replied nodding against Haruki’s shoulder.

"If you missed me that much, why didn’t you come to me?" Haruki asked pulling away from the hug. He wanted to see the man’s face but Hiroshi didn’t release him instead his hands tightened around Haruki’s waist.

"You didn’t call me," Hiroshi replied sniffing Haruki’s neck.

"Have you ever waited for permission to come to me?" Haruki asked in disbelief. "I thought you were very busy considering your absence while you were here."

Hiroshi wanted to say he got busy because Haruki was busy but he pressed his lips together. "You are right."

Haruki sighed. He wanted to tease the man that he didn’t miss enough to come over without being called but the arms around him said otherwise so he gave up on the idea. The man had come over at the end without being invited.

It was as though he always waited until he was at his limit to come over. Haruki found that to be very cute after all, the man’s coming showed that the man could not live without him.

He rubbed the man’s back feeling the warmth through the fabric of his pyjamas.

He pulled away and this time, the doctor released him. He met the gaze of his warm brown eyes and smiled. Why was it so refreshing to see the man? It felt as though all the weight of his worries disappeared when their gaze met.

Hiroshi’s gaze got worried as he raised his hand and rubbed the pad of his thumb lightly over Haruki’s eyes. Haruki closed his eyes allowing the man to gently brush over his eyelids. It was warm and it was soothing.

The man stopped and released him. "Eat so you can sleep," Hiroshi told him worriedly with his brow furrowed.

Haruki smiled and nodded. He had a bit left but because he had been very hungry before he got the chance to eat, he wanted to finish the meal.

Hiroshi waited patiently seated on one of the empty chairs before him. The table no longer felt empty. In fact, it felt quite full as though all the other empty chairs disappeared and the table shrank.

After the meal, they went back upstairs. Haruki went directly into the bathroom. When he stepped out of the shower cubicle, the doctor waited with the hair dryer plugged in.

He dried Haruki’s hair and gave him a pair of pyjamas before leading him to the bed. It was as though he was commanding him to go to sleep immediately.

Haruki knew he had nothing else to do that night but to sleep but the man’s actions had him holding back his smile even as the warm covers rested lightly on his body.

He yawned as his body relaxed into the scent of the fresh sheets. Hiroshi got under the covers too and placed his hand on Haruki’s chest. He gently patted his chest until he was sure Haruki had gone to sleep.

He leaned closer to the man and pressed a kiss on Haruki’s cheeks. Those lips looked inviting so he leaned and kissed them too light enough not to disturb Haruki’s sleep before settling for the night.

From Haruki’s eyes, he could see that the man was busy and perhaps he was too insignificant to interfere with all the man had to do. As Haruki’s doctor, he could not help but worry.

He wondered who that man was whom Haruki worried about. He made a mental note to ask his lawyer to have them investigate it deeply.

The next day, Haruki slept in. He wanted to look his best during lunch. He was not about to give in on how worried he had been. When he woke up, he went to work out for half an hour before taking his bath and joining the doctor for a light brunch.

The worry on Hiroshi’s face had finally disappeared. "Aren’t you going to eat more?" Hiroshi asked when he noticed Haruki had eaten light.

"I have a lunch appointment later," Haruki replied.

Hiroshi frowned slightly but he didn’t back down. "I think you should eat a bit more," he said as he placed more food into Haruki’s plate.

Haruki looked down at the plate of food. He didn’t like being told what to do but he could easily see that his doctor was worried about him and the food was not much just enough to increase the quantity of food he had had by a bit.

With a sigh, he picked up his chopstick again and began eating. When he finished the food, he wondered if Hiroshi would insist he eat more but Hiroshi simply continued eating his own meal.

Haruki stretched his hand and touched Hiroshi’s hair brushing away a strand from Hiroshi’s forehead. "Will Aki come over this weekend?" Haruki asked.

"No, he’s friends with Miyoko now. I think he likes her," Hiroshi replied remembering when his brother came to visit him at the hospital for lunch with Miyoko.

Enjoying the light conversation, Haruki leaned back and asked, "Do you think Miyoko likes Aki?"

For Hiroshi however, this was not a light conversation for him. These days, he had come to believe that there was no chance of Aki being together with Haruki but knowing the feelings Aki had for Haruki in the past, still left a bitter feeling mixed with guilt.

"I think she’s interested in him. I felt like the third wheel while we were eating. They seemed so good together. She loves his art too." Hiroshi only stopped when he realised he had hurriedly poured out these facts as though cancelling every chance of Haruki liking Aki.

"I think they will be a perfect couple," Haruki laughed. "I only hope it won’t end in a heartbreak like the first."

"Yeah," Hiroshi nodded hoping he was able to completely mask his guilt. "He seems happier than the first," Hiroshi added. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Haruki nodded a small smile lifting the corners of his lips. With Aki’s help, Miyoko would be out of the picture. Her feelings for Hiroshi once she gets together with Aki would be lost which means he had eliminated his rival.

Both men had no idea that they were all relieved that their rivals would be gone if Aki and Miyoko got together.

"We’ll play golf alone together alone then," Haruki murmured as he rose up ready to meet with his mentor and subordinates to plan the lunch meeting with Aiichiro.

Haruki walked into the private room. The man had invited him to his house but Haruki did not hesitate to refuse the location and suggested one of his restaurants.

The staff were his and carefully screened to ensure there was no spy among them and the place was closed for this. The staff slid the door closed behind him as he met the gaze of the man sitting down.

The man met his gaze calmly before slowly rising from the cushion. Haruki removed his shoes before approaching the sitting area.

"Welcome," Aiichiro maintained his smile as he said.

"Thanks. You came quite early," Haruki voiced his observation. He had wanted the man to meet him there, which was why he came fifteen minutes earlier but the man had arrived five minutes ago.

Haruki could not help but worry that perhaps the man knew his plans that was why he had arrived when he did. He swallowed as he walked to the cushion opposite where the man sat and sat down.

"Yes, how could I afford to be tardy?"

"Being too early is different from that," Haruki said unwilling to hold back what he felt about the man coming early. "You were twenty minutes early," Haruki added.

"And you are fifteen minutes early," Aiichiro looked down at his hands on the table and smiled.

Haruki nodded, "I am the host."

"No, I am the host, I invited you out," Aiichiro replied without hesitation.

The man claiming to be the host could be him telling Haruki that he was in charge. Haruki tried hard to hold back from frowning at the man’s words. He smiles it off with a nod.

"Should we order now or wait until the appointed time for our lunch?" Aiichiro asked calmly as he made himself comfortable even with his upright posture acting like a disciplined host.

"Whatever you want."

"I am famished, it would be best if we eat now."

The staff arrived to take their order. Haruki barely ordered anything but when the man ordered, he included all the food Haruki had shown interest in while they were friends.
