Chapter 158: Leave!

"I met my aunt the day we bought the fish," Haruki replied calmly.

Hiroshi remembered the day he returned to his private room. He could still remember the unsettled look on Haruki’s face. He could still remember the face of the woman who walked out of the room.

He wondered if she was his aunt so he asked, "I think she was the woman who exited the room when I came?" Otherwise, they were together most of the time, he would have known if Haruki met his aunt.

"Yes, she was. She did it mistakenly." Saying it now, Haruki could see that perhaps it was not a mistake after all, perhaps all those from his past he had been meeting frequently of recent were no coincidence.

Aiichiro must have made her meet him only to kill her months later. He frowned. To think of how much hurt the man had caused him in such a short while, he felt the desire to kill the man.

He was certain that if it were someone else, perhaps his hands would have been coated completely with the person’s warm blood but the person involved was Aiichiro.

It wouldn’t be easy to handle it the underworld way and neither could he do it using the law, the man’s family had invested heavily in their influence on law enforcers and lawyers.

To feel that he had someone who had done so much yet he could do nothing felt fresh and with this foreign feeling of powerlessness came rage.

Neither his aunt who cared for him after his parents died nor his grand aunt who loved talking to him whenever they met, deserved the death they got. His grandaunt was just an elder obsessed with getting him wed.

First Aiichiro ruined the little relationship he had with her by killing his uncle only to kill her before he had time to salvage what was left of their relationship.

Hiroshi approached Haruki and looked at him worriedly. He saw how calm Haruki was and it had him worried that the man was trying hard to mask his emotions which was just too much considering what he was dealing with already.

"I am sorry that happened," Hiroshi said softly. He didn’t wait for Haruki to invite him before he hugged him. "I am sorry that happened to you."

Haruki felt all the rage and energy he felt drain with the man’s arms around him. He had not relaxed rather, he felt weakened. His body was acting just as powerless as he felt in his mind. He was useless and couldn’t protect those around him.

"I could have stopped it," Haruki murmured his face pressed against Hiroshi’s shoulder. "I could have done what he wanted me to do. If I had listened, they would not have died. All because of my selfishness. I caused it."

Hiroshi hearing those words could not fully understand what Haruki meant by that as he asked, "What do you mean?" He wanted to pull away from the hug to see Haruki’s expression but feeling how Haruki rested against him almost totally, he held even tighter.

Haruki released Hiroshi and pulled away from the embrace. He met Hiroshi’s gaze calmly and said, "You need to leave."

"What?" Hiroshi asked in both confusion and astonishment.

The community his grandaunt lived in, and the street his aunt lived on, had wealthy accomplished people living there yet Aiichiro had attacked them. A gas explosion could very easily get out of hand yet he did without fear.

To think of Hiroshi going to work every day, he was almost certain that Aiichiro would find a way to hurt him. Haruki thought of it from Aiichiro’s point of view and he came up with a dozen ways he could kill Hiroshi even with the schedule they had.

If he locked Hiroshi here, he would still have to go to work which meant Hiroshi could still get harmed. There was no way he could protect Hiroshi as long as Aiichiro wanted him dead.

"Everyone was right, you need to leave," Haruki replied calmly. His voice came out steady, almost too steady. "I would be very busy investigating their deaths and I don’t want to be distracted," he finally said unable to bring himself to shut Hiroshi out of his life without a humane reason.

Hiroshi could not believe Haruki was sending him away simply because he would be too busy. Haruki had been busy while they spent time together anyway, and they still stayed together regardless.

He wanted to act appropriately but things were different. Although they had not exchanged confessions of love, he was Haruki’s lover and he believed it went beyond the contract on paper, he could not simply bring himself to leave as any other contract lover would.

"I will stay without causing you any trouble," Hiroshi replied casually as though he had not just gotten ordered to leave. He turned to walk towards the bathroom.

"No, I need you to leave now, or I get the guards to escort you out and you will never get to meet me again," Haruki warned sternly.

Those words caused chills down Hiroshi’s spine. He stopped and looked at Haruki even more confused and surprised. They have not had such a mood before. He pressed his covered eyes for a few seconds before roughly rubbing his face and looking at Haruki.

"Fine. I will leave but promise me, you will call me," Hiroshi met Haruki’s gaze calmly trying to hide his desperation. "Please?" His voice trembled unable to hide his desperation.

Haruki was even calmer as he responded, "Okay."

Haruki raised his head to look at Aiichiro who walked into his office. He clenched his fist as he rose up from behind his desk. The man had made a demand to meet Haruki and fearlessly walked into Haruki’s office.

"Tea or coffee?" Haruki asked calmly looking at the man who appeared calm and confident as though Haruki was a guest in his home.

"None, water would do," the man replied as he sat down on the sofa before Haruki sat.

Kiyoshi hearing that, served Haruki and the man each a bottle of ice-cold water before exiting.

"I know you must be wondering why I chose your office to meet today," the man cleared his throat before beginning the conversation.

"Why did you kill my aunt and grandaunt? They had nothing to do with me," Haruki asked seriously. The hatred he felt towards the man sitting only a meter away was teeth-crushing making his blood boil but what was most difficult was the fact that he was not allowed to kill him.

"Spare me all that. I know you well enough to know that those two are very important to you. I want to go after Ren and Kiyoshi but I thought of how it would literally make you crippled so I went for them instead."

"They were not that important," Haruki replied as calmly as he could.

Two women who were the closest image to what his mother would have been if she were not killed were brutally murdered because of him yet he had to verbally discredit their importance to him because of this man.

"That’s a relief then. At least you won’t be thinking of vengeance anytime soon," the man chuckled and rested against the backrest.

"I have backed down, how about you do the same and get rid of your spies," Haruki asked.

"You don’t believe I would do that, right?"

Haruki didn’t believe but he hoped the man would do it though that would greatly help their plans.

The man laughed and shook his head amused. "Fine. I will but under two conditions."

"Get married and keep the doctor away from you."

"One condition," Haruki corrected him. "I will get engaged to prove to you that nothing I have with the doctor is important."

"Why would I believe that? You’re making me believe what you have with the doctor is important. I am trying hard not to kill him so it is best to keep him out of the picture. I will kill all my spies in your organisation myself."

Haruki’s eyes widened.

"So, end it with the doctor," Aiichiro said when he noticed Haruki was interested in that offer.

"I have long ended it."

"Get engaged and start a family to assure me that there won’t be another man aside from him."

Haruki bit the inside of his cheeks hearing the man’s words. The metallic taste of blood filled his mouth making him thirst for the blood. To think there would be a day when he would have to follow Aiichiro’s orders felt very humiliating to think of.

The blood he wanted to smell was the one from the man’s slit throat, a cut he would make himself. As his fists clenched, he remembered the plan to remain patient.

"Can I trust you to get engaged before the end of this week?"

"And if not?" Haruki asked confused by the man’s desire to rush things up.

"I will find a woman for you."

To think of living with the wife a man like Aiichiro marries for him, was more than humiliating.
