(BL) Mafia Love; He who falls the hardest loses-Chapter 164: An accident
(Warning: Accident scene)
"You must send my deepest apologies to them. I have been a bit too busy lately and I would be sure to visit with gifts when the time comes," Haruki said, obligingly.
She nodded in acceptance noticing Haruki didn’t want to talk about it too deeply. "I’ll get you coffee," she said rising up.
"Call Kiyoshi when you leave."
She nodded and exited the office.
Kiyoshi knocked and was invited in almost as soon as she left.
"Announce my engagement," Haruki said firmly.
Kiyoshi parted his lips to speak but paused and pressed his lips. "Okay sir," he said. He bowed to leave although feeling reluctant to leave.
"Anything else?" Haruki sees the man still rooted in the same spot even after bowing.
"What about Dr Yamamoto?"
"He will be fine," Haruki replied. Perhaps this will dissuade Hiroshi from getting involved in his business which was for the best. A thought contradicted that, ’What if Hiroshi chooses to stay regardless of the engagement’.
It sounded possible, it was tempting, in fact he wanted that but with Aiichiro’s involvement, he would still have to look for a way to push Hiroshi away, they couldn’t be together until he had a plan to render Aiichiro and Ren powerless.
That was a plan he hadn’t come up with and it would be a strategy requiring intense planning that would necessitate time and attention to details while keeping it secret from Aiichiro and Ren.
It sounded impossible but since Kiyoshi was on his side, he had hope. He was not sure how long it would last but until he succeeds, it would be best to keep Hiroshi away from him.
When he gets married and Hiroshi chooses to stay by his side, he will not need anyone to make decisions for him.
"I will get it announced then," Kiyoshi seeing Haruki lost in thoughts said.
"Go ahead," Haruki said snapping out of his thoughts. He wished he had a plan he could execute immediately but he was at a loss. There was no way he could succeed without killing both men. With a sigh, he shook his head craving coffee as he hoped for Satomi to bring his coffee.

Hiroshi could easily understand why Haruki had cried but it had shocked him. He expected a more explosive response to Haruki reading the report but he had cried in his arms.
It left him with a pain in his chest along with tightness. He wanted to help Haruki. He wanted to protect the man even if he had to be used as a shield.
He took in a deep breath and pressed the ignition of his car and the engine hummed to life. He was very late for work but he had nothing that someone else couldn’t handle scheduled but he couldn’t miss the day’s work.
He drove out of the gate happy that Haruki seemed to have given in when he begged. He was still a bit skeptical but that was not a problem. He will just drive back to Haruki’s house when he is done with work with his fingers crossed.
He was lucky to pass by the first traffic light since it was green when he got there. It was not rush hour since he was pretty late for work already. He pressed the break but it sank down with the pressure doing nothing.
That had never happened to him but it was not difficult to know what was happening. He pressed a few more times but got no response. His grip on the steering tightened as he pumped the brake pedal as fast as he could trying to stay calm enough.
When it went without any response, he tried to shift to a lower gear but it wouldn’t respond. This was the car he got as a present from Haruki, it has never been fault and he got it checked only a couple of weeks ago.
He felt his heart race fast even while trying to stay calm. This was not a coincidence, this was not his car simply going wrong, and someone had tampered with his brake pedal.
With his hands slightly shaky, he reached to call his lawyer. "I think my brake and gear have been tampered with," he said as soon as the call connected.
"I will connect the call to someone to help you immediately," his lawyer sensing the urgency immediately responded.
"Okay."
Soon someone else joined the call and without exchanging unnecessary pleasantries, he asked, "Have you tried to pump the brake pedals?"
"Yes, I did that as soon as I noticed it was unresponsive," he replied calmly even though he had just passed a red light. He activated the hazard lights and waited for the person to continue speaking.
"Take the left turn, right now," the man on the other end said as Hiroshi approached a junction.
He obeyed once again ignoring the red light while blaring his horn at other drivers to warn them. The traffic was even less on this side and the more he followed the person’s orders the farther he got away from the busy areas still a bit above the speed limit in those areas.
He could see a couple of police cars behind him through the rear mirror.
"Have you informed the police?" Hiroshi asked because it would be worse if he were pursued for breaking traffic laws.
"Yes. An ambulance is waiting too."
The other man on the call immediately told Hiroshi the plan. He was to use the emergency brake as soon as they get to the isolated road he was headed to that would give him enough room to use friction to bring the car to a stop without affecting anyone else.
Hiroshi was satisfied with the plan. They shared the same thought but coming from a professional, it made him feel at ease. He looked ahead calmly knowing where he had to stop and began slowly pulling the handbrake lever.
His hands were steady as he controlled the skidding to minimise the chance of a somersault. At that moment, he thought that the worst thing that could happen was for him to lose control.
The road they had assured him was clear soon had a garbage truck coming ahead. He took deep breaths despite the shock of seeing something he hadn’t expected.
"There is a truck ahead," he said hoping there was some explanation that it was simply a coincidence.
"We’ll handle it," his lawyer on the end responds hurriedly.
He could feel the man’s attempt to act as though it was nothing. The driver had increased his speed. Hiroshi glanced at the side of the road making up his mind to swerve to the other side of the road as soon as the driver was close enough.
That would need him to step on the accelerator again, dangerous but he would need to be fast enough to escape what he expected to happen.
"I think I know what you’re thinking but I will advise you not swerve too fast or the accident will be fatal," the man on the other end warned.
"We’ll handle the truck driver, worry about your safety."
The truck was coming fast without decelerating. "Focus on yourself Hiroshi," Hiroshi soliloquised. The car’s speed had reduced thanks to the emergency break but the person coming ahead was not stopping.
From the rear mirror, he noticed a car coming from behind him on the other lane and without hesitation, the driver overtook him.
"Continue with the plan," his lawyer reminded him. He was slow enough to use natural friction without a fatal accident.
He turned the steering away from the road into the bushes on the side of the road just in time to hear a loud bang. It was very distracting but he focused on himself as advised and his car stopped when it hit a tree with the brake fully engaged.
He tried to take deep breaths to calm himself but his breath was shaky. He finally opened the door of his car and stepped out of it.
He was safe but the car driving ahead earlier had been hit by the truck along with another car he hadn’t noticed. The front part of the other car was completely smashed while the back of the first car was smashed in as though they were about to be crushed in a dump site.
Seeing what would have happened to him if he hadn’t been lucky enough to steer away from the road in time, he felt his legs shake. A few cars arrived along with some other police cars. A few ambulances arrived too.
He looked down at his body realizing that he had survived because of those involved in the accident and he rushed forward to confirm that no one had died instead of him.
Even if he had swerved away in time, his car would still have been crushed because he was the target and they just had to follow him off the road.
"Are you okay?" a paramedic ran over to him and asked.
"I am okay, let’s check on them first," Hiroshi replied immediately activating his doctor’s mode.
