Chapter 55: Happy Doctor

"Okay!" the man shouted raising his head to meet Haruki’s gaze before bowing again. "I did nothing to him. I swear it wasn’t me. I just figured out that he was the one I heard about on the news."

"Do you know you made yourself sound very guilty?" Haruki asked wondering how the man’s brain was wired to fall into a trap Haruki had not taken time to prepare that had to be the reason the man was not taken seriously by his father compared to his younger brother.

Haruki paged Kiyoshi immediately and had the man taken away from his office just in time for him to be visited by the police. He remained calm knowing the only thing they had against him was the fact that the person missing was a guest at one of the many hotels he had both in the country and abroad.

He spoke to them as though he was not very much aware of the guest who went missing because unless they either wanted to inform him of the ongoing investigation or wanted something to rope him with the Yakuza world, they had no reason to visit his office after all, the hotel had a general manager they could meet for any serious information.

The more Haruki spoke to them, the more he felt they were perhaps trying to intimidate and scare him with the law even when they had no evidence against him after all, the man’s last location might have been his hotel but what made them think the man went missing in his hotel.

"You know I have heard a lot about hotels with hidden doors the hotel staff could access guest rooms without their permission. I can’t help but think this is what happened. Why else would I leave the hotel so secretly?"

"That’s why I have a very competent General Manager managing the affairs of the hotel, you can go ahead and ask her," he replied very calmly.

This was not their first visit, it seemed the police became his fans since he became the chairman or it could just be inherited from his grandfather along with the title he got.

It was something he was used to. He knew they loved keeping him on his toes but many of them knew deep down that they would never find out anything illegal about him. Many must also think he was a third-generation rich kid who loved both women and men and parties.

They did not linger anymore and he did not linger in the office anymore as he had a lunch date with another set of police officers one of whom tried to set up a blind with Haruki and his daughter. He said so many things about his daughter but the more the man spoke, the more Haruki felt they were trying to get him to marry a spy into his family.

Haruki felt very busy that day as he was not given the chance to enjoy his lunch break. It was not unusual for him as he went back to work immediately. Ren paid a visit bearing mostly the same information Kiyoshi provided him.

The only thing new he heard was the confirmation that Ethan had been to Souta’s track. Souta and Ethan raced against each other on someone else’s track where Ethan won against Souta. They were pictures on the social media account of one of Souta’s friends. Souta was smiling broadly even after a defeat.

Souta however, invited Ethan for another friendly race on his track which Ethan did not decline. The match took place on the day Ethan went missing.

There was an accident on the track and Haruki could guess immediately that his grand-uncle’s son had set the innocent foreigner up for an accident.

Ethan was rushed to the hospital and it was said that he lost a lot of blood but since he had a blood type rarely found in the country, they could not find a blood donor.

Haruki pulled out his phone and called Kiyoshi and told him to halt the interrogation of Souta but to keep him locked up. Since they found this out, it won’t be long before the police do.

It was frustrating that at the end of everything, the case would still find its way to their family. The more Haruki thought of the extent to which everything had gotten and the fact that it could get a lot worse, he could not help but feel panic tighten his chest making it a bit difficult to breathe.

"Why do you look so happy?" a colleague leaned close to Hiroshi and whispered. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

Hiroshi paused and moved back a bit from the young man. "What do you mean?" Hiroshi asked.

"You have been smiling since you got to work dressed like a CEO," the young man responded giving Hiroshi a once-over.

"I . . ." Hiroshi began raising his hand to touch his cheeks in a state of slight disbelief. He did not realize he had been smiling all along although deep within, he was very happy.

"Now, you’re blushing, goodness," the young man smiled in surprise. "I never knew you could look this way. If you showed this side of you more often, I bet all the ladies around here will develop the right amount of courage to propose to you."

Haruki turned around and just like the young man beside him said, the nurse who met his gaze began blushing as she bowed her head shyly. He pressed his lips together and took in a deep breath hoping just as he thought, the smile was off his face.

"Ohh. . . I did not say that make you frown," the young man began but Hiroshi waved him and walked away to his office.

He lifted the edge of his scrub top in front of the mirror and looked at the bruise on his waist. It looked like Haruki had left his stamp of ownership on his body and as much as the sight of it lifted the corners of his lips, he needed the bruise to heal as soon as possible so he could go back to Haruki.

He dropped the shirt and adjusted his clothes before buttoning up his ward coat. He had seen a part of Haruki he was very certain no one but himself had seen since he became the chairman and he did not want to lose the chance to keep catching Haruki unaware until he got all the walls around Haruki to fall.

Last night, he knew Haruki was hurt and as much he was by his side to provide him immediate comfort, he was sure with the right amount of trust from Haruki, he would be able to do more. Show the man love, and heal him of those wounds he knew nothing about.

His brother called him before he left his office and it was a perfect reminder that even though he had not been close enough to Haruki to know about him profoundly, his brother was someone who had been with Haruki for a long time in the past.

He walked to the pharmacy after he exchanged a few casual words with his brother. He had a regular balm in his office but he wanted something that would cause the wound to heal faster at least outwardly.

The pharmacist was someone he knew after all, he was the son of the Hospital Director. The woman immediately approached him wearing a welcoming smile as she asked, "What are you doing here?" She continued by warmly adding, "You could have called me to send what you needed over to you."

"No, I wanted to pick it up myself," he replied calmly without being overly familiar. He could have had her send it to him but the urgency he felt made him hurry to the pharmacy.

The woman asked him for the prescription and he simply told her what he wanted. When he told her, she seemed surprised by the drug he seemed to have hurried there for. She went to get the balm for him. "I will pay for it for you," she offered to be nice.

"It’s a bit expensive, you don’t have to worry," he told her as he pulled out his wallet and paid.

His phone rang, and Miyoko’s name appeared on the screen of his phone. He picked up the call without much hesitation. "I am waiting for you at the lobby," she told him her voice a pitch higher.

"I will meet you there," he replied calmly knowing he had been a bit rude to her and he had to clear things up after all, they were friends.

She was dressed casually in a midi floral gown, it made her look both pretty and young. When she saw him, she raised her head and hurried to him. "You had me worried yesterday, I am glad you are fine now," she told him her face lit up with a broad smile.

"Why were you worried?" he asked her a bit confused.

"I thought something serious happened yesterday," she responded casually.

"I am sorry for being cold yesterday," he apologized with a bow. "I should never have left you the way I did. It was inappropriate but I had my reasons."
