Chapter 90: Family 4

Haruki remained silent as he watched them all closely. They all hated him at that moment even his grandfather’s younger sister, Yuki. It was certain she held no good feelings for him.

However, why didn’t they come to him when their brother messed up badly and almost got their family associated with the underworld, something that could make them lose their entire assets?

They had watched on the sidelines even when their brother left the country after getting released from jail. They all knew what would follow after they had been members of such a dangerous family much longer than him but they didn’t approach him.

None of them tried to plead for their brother, only after his death did they seem to care for him.

Haruki wondered how long they were tortured before they died but he knew none it could amount to the punishment they would receive if he had decided to punish them as the patriarch for the crime they committed.

Going to jail was the best option they had and they were elated when they got released, Haruki knew they had everything planned out and felt their plan was too foolproof for them to have any shortcomings.

If only they had pleaded guilty to owning such a business, perhaps they would have gotten some years of "mercy" before they were executed for being the mastermind behind multiple murders including kidnapping medicine practitioners to carry out organ harvesting.

Haruki rested his hand on the table before him as he leaned forward tired of them wasting his time with their silence as though they did not all share the same thought of how that brother of theirs was a nuisance.

"What date would work best considering all our schedules?" Haruki asked seriously, his voice filling the room like an invisible weight blanketing over the entire room.

"We had someone choose an auspicious day for the funeral," his grandfather’s sister, Yuki responded, her voice low and tired.

"When would be that?" Haruki asked. The woman replied to him and it was next week. Haruki wondered if he was free but he knew he would have to clear his schedule to attend the funeral as the head of the family. "I think it is okay," he agreed without hesitation.

"So, are we all going to handle this casually?" Haruki’s granduncle leaned forward and asked. His fierce gaze met Haruki’s before moving to meet that of his siblings.

"What do you mean by that?" his young brother asked him cautiously.

"Enough of all those pretence. Who are you trying to deceive? We were all pained by the death of our brother and now it is all in the past after all, right?"

"We came here to discuss something serious avoid speaking outside the topic of our decision," Yuki warned her younger brother sternly as she waved to him to keep quiet.

"Why are so scared of him? He is just a boy, still wet behind his ears," the man’s face turned red as he responded to his sister before turning to Haruki and said, "What gives you the right to make a deal with a foreigner to kill our brother?"

"Watch your mouth," his grand-aunt rose from her seat hurrying to her brother’s side. She tried to cover his mouth but he rose and pushed her away.

"Don’t touch me! Takeshiro died along with his sons and you expect me to show this small bastard some respect? He broke the family rules first," he shouted at his younger sister. He took in fast deep breaths and loosened the tie he wore before saying with his index finger pointed at Haruki, "We alone are allowed to hurt family, no one else but you made a deal to hurt one of us."

Haruki wondered why they were not angry when the prime minister had come into his home with armed men, after all, there was no way they did not hear about it.

He remained very calm after all, they were mourning their brother even though he knew the man was trying to add more fuel into the minds of his siblings.

The man parted his lips to speak but Haruki raised his hand and stopped him, saying, "Be very careful what you say next."

"I do not need to!" the man screamed removing his jacket and still remembering to keep it on his chair. "Are you even human to do such a thing?" the man paused and looked at Haruki for a few seconds before tears rolled down his cheeks.

Haruki’s grandaunt began sobbing silently where she stood. "Stop it. Don’t forget the family rules."

"What family rules? He broke the family rules first by letting someone else handle family matters, he let someone kill my brother. He disappointed us first. Such a young man and he thinks he is qualified to be the patriarch. How is–"

Haruki moved his fingers slightly and within a few seconds, Ren stood behind the man and hit him hard behind his neck before anyone had the chance to warn him.

He went silent as Ren impatiently supported his body to the floor. Haruki could imagine all the hateful words the man had bottled up against him and this was a chance to help him save his neck by being silent.

Silent filled the room laying heavily on the shoulders of the elder in the room. Haruki was the only one in his family present without a slumped shoulder looking like a defeated soldiers.

He was so tempted to say "You’re welcome" considering he did their brother a favour by shutting him up not punishing him for his words but he thought of the fact that they were mourning and kept the sarcastic side of himself locked up.

"You should all eat dinner before you leave," Haruki rose and left after giving them an order. frёeωebɳovel.com

When he stepped out of the door, he saw the children of those old people in the room. Every one of them came with descendants residing in the country were present. It was as though they were hoping someone would serve as a witness to their deaths if Haruki loses his temper over something they say.

It was funny that rather than protecting their younger generation, they pushed them forward to defend them as shields. Haruki could not help but lift the corner of his lips as they rose and bowed to him regardless of their age.

Watching them as he walked by, he could not help but wonder what any of them could do to him if he had turned the entire conference room into a blood bath with their parents.

As he headed up, he met Katora coming downstairs. He stopped and moved aside for Haruki to pass after a deep bow. He continued up after giving him specific orders to pass on about his dinner.

After passing, he could not help but turn back to look at the man. He could not come to understand what Ren saw in the young man that made him certain that one day the younger man wouldn’t attempt to bury another knife in his abdomen.

He sighed and shook his head. He was not scared of getting stabbed knowing it would be difficult for the man to do it again but poisoning . . . that would be easy considering the younger man handled most of his teas when he was in the main house.

Dinner was served. It looked good as usual but Haruki could not bring himself to eat. He thought he was simply craving noodles but with the noodles served before him, he could not bring himself to even lift the chopstick to his mouth.

He watched his granduncles and grandaunts force themselves to eat the meal they were served along with their kids. It was as though they could not wait to escape the room. Theirs had a lot of side dishes looking rich but he was not tempted to have it.

He placed the chopsticks down when he could not continue sitting there watching them eating as though he was watching a mukbang channel. He rose and bid them farewell to their homes, he escaped the room first before any of them got the chance to.

"Do you want me to drive you?" Kiyoshi asked when Haruki asked him to bring one of his cars from the garage.

"No, I will handle that," Haruki refused shaking his head.

"I will go get it then," Kiyoshi said and left.

While waiting, Ren joined and they stood beside each other without saying anything for a few minutes.

"I know you have something to say," Haruki said when he got fed up with the man’s silence.

"I don’t unless you want me to say something," Ren said trace of laughter in his voice overclouding the respect in his voice.

"Say it," Haruki began feeling fed up with the man’s silent scolding. He wanted to know what exactly he was getting punished for. Haruki wondered if it was because he was leaving or even more seriously, because of the way he handled this case.
