[BL] Mr. Romano Contracted Husband-Chapter 94: Lucrative Odd Jobs
Arcane and Julian have prepared so much to welcome their new family member, Luna. They can’t wait for the adoption process to be completed so they can add a new member to their family.
Julian, who looks so excited, is waiting for news from the adoption center about Luna. However, as of today, they haven’t received any updates after two months. Arcane tries to reassure him, saying that the process might take three months before they can adopt Luna.
"There’s still one month left, as he said. I’m sure we’ll be able to bring Luna home after that."
He ruffled Julian’s hair as he looked at the new room prepared for her. After ensuring he would be okay waiting a little longer, Arcane finally decided to go to work.
At home, Julian went about his usual activities, checking his phone more frequently than usual. He was eagerly awaiting a message from Sandra or anyone who might send news about Luna.
For a moment, his eyes closed, recalling his childhood when he had always wanted a sibling. He saw his friends with younger or older siblings they could play with every day, and that made him feel very jealous.
Flashback
"My little sister is so cute! Yesterday she ate a lemon, and her face looked so funny when she tried to hold back the sour taste!" said one of his friends.
The other friends also shared similar stories about their younger siblings or older siblings doing silly or funny things.
Julian, who at that time was an only child, could only listen to their stories without knowing what it was like to have siblings.
"I always play with Marshal! Every time he comes to my house, we play together!" he said.
"But isn’t Marshal your cousin? He can’t be with you every day, right?"
What his friends said was true, Marshal couldn’t be with him every day. Sometimes he also felt so lonely because he had no friends at home.
’Sometimes they say being an only child is fun. But why don’t I feel that way at all?’
Flashback End
His eyes slowly opened, and after remembering all that, he also recalled his parents’ words that he actually had an older sister, but she had died before he was born.
"If only my older sister were still alive, I wouldn’t have felt lonely since childhood. Now, I see Luna more as a younger sister than my future child. But there’s nothing wrong with playing dual roles, right? I can be her older brother, I can be her father and her friend too," he muttered.
Although there was still no news about Luna and the adoption agency, he believed Arcane’s words that they would get her.
"For now, it’s better for me to try to find something to help Arcane finance Luna. But what should I do for that?"
In the midst of his confusion, someone suddenly rang his doorbell, causing Julian to immediately wake up from where he was sitting.
Ding dong!
"Yes, just a moment!" he replied.
When he opened the door, a woman was standing there holding a little boy. The boy looked to be under 5 years old, as he was still very small.
At first, Julian didn’t recognize the woman, but her face seemed familiar.
"Can I help you?" he asked.
"You must be Julian, right? My name is Sarah. I live in this block, and we’ve passed each other a few times when going to the minimarket," she said, introducing herself.
Hearing this, Julian immediately remembered that they had met several times because they still lived in the same area. They didn’t talk to each other like he and Clara did, but Julian had met her before.
"Oh, hello Sarah. Yes, I’m Julian. What brings you to my house today?" he asked.
Sarah then explained that she wanted to leave her son with him for 3 to 4 hours because she had to go to the salon. She couldn’t take her son with her because he often complained and got bored easily.
"Clara suggested that I leave my son with you. I’ll pay you for this, as long as you’re willing to take care of him until I get back from the salon," she explained.
Julian was silent for a moment when he heard the request. He was not someone who was an expert at babysitting, but he felt there was no harm in doing so. Soon he would have his own child, and taking care of Sarah’s son could be practice for him to take care of Luna.
’Besides, I’ve already taken care of Amanda for three days in this house before. I think spending three to four hours with this child wouldn’t be a problem. Plus, his mother will pay for it,’ he thought.
"Of course! I’ll take care of your son today while you go to the salon. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of him!"
"Thank you so much! Here’s a bag with everything he needs, including formula and his toys. And my son’s name is Scott!"
She handed over her 4 year old son with blond hair. Sarah then drove off to the beauty salon.
"Okay, Scott, I’m your babysitter. Now what shall we do?"
That day, for almost 4 hours, Julian took care of Scott with great effort. Unlike girls, boys were really challenging for him. He kept running around the house, messing with everything he saw. Even when Julian was just sitting down, Scott could suddenly jump off the sofa and land on his stomach.
"AKHH! S-Scott... Slow down..." Julian almost threw up when the little body landed on his stomach. Even though his body was small, the pressure he exerted was still very great.
"Ehehehe..." But Scott just laughed and ran back to the living room and climbed onto the sofa.
It was like torture by a little devil, but Julian knew he had accepted this responsibility and he had to do it well.
"Scott, wait for me!" Julian ran after the very active boy who was running around the house.
Scott even picked up every object he encountered and threw it on the floor. From pillows, books, even a vase he almost threw.
"Oh no!"
Luckily, Julian jumped to catch the vase before it hit the floor.
"Scott, you can’t just throw things around. It’s not good!" he said, trying to advise him.
However, instead of listening, Scott looked like he wanted to cry because he thought Julian was scolding him. The man immediately panicked, he had accidentally raised his voice a little. He was worried that the vase would hurt Scott because the broken pieces could be stepped on.
"Hey hey, shhh... It’s okay. I’m not angry. I just don’t want you to get hurt—" He tried to comfort him, hugging him gently and rubbing his back.
’It turns out that being a parent is not easy. Maybe I’m too used to meeting calm and obedient children. Even though Amanda is quite active, she never causes problems like Scott does. But I should know that every child is different,’ thought Julian as he patted Scott’s back.
Carrying the boy, he rocked his body from side to side.
The little hands wrapped around his neck, he kept trying to calm him down. After he calmed down and it was lunchtime, he fed him the food his mother had prepared. He accompanied him to play, this time trying to find a way to keep Scott from causing any more trouble.
"I am the Prince of Darkness! I have come to fight you, Prince Scott!" Julian said, raising the spatula as if it were a sword.
"No, I’m definitely going to beat you!" Scott held another spatula while also playing the role of a prince.
They fought each other while laughing occasionally. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Oh no! Why are you so strong!" Julian was knocked back, deliberately letting little Scott win.
Finally, four hours passed and Sarah returned from the salon. She paid him $70, calculating $15/hour as the average babysitter rate at the time and giving him a $10 bonus.
"I hope my son wasn’t too naughty with you. Looking after him is a big challenge, which is why babysitters rarely want to look after him," said Sarah.
’I can see why.’
Julian could only laugh, though it was clearly forced. He was actually exhausted from watching Scott. But he was also happy because there were moments when the boy listened to him.
After they finally left, Julian looked at the money in his hand and thought this could be a new source of income for him. Before, he had been a temporary art teache, now he was a babysitter.
"Turns out finding a job is really tough. No wonder everyone is willing to do anything, even if it seems simple, as long as it can make money," he muttered.
He closed the front door and took a deep breath to tidy up the living room before Arcane came home. But he didn’t complain, he just smiled at the messy living room.
Now he is learning many things that make him confident about accepting Luna into their home.
"Let’s just consider this a start, in case Luna eventually comes and does the same thing."
