Chapter 330: 330: Archery

The authorities were aware of the competition. They had approved it, since it was also a medium of training and was an organized one.

So on that day, the authorities were seated on their high seats. The students of the academy had filled up the sides of the arena where the competition was happening.

They all stood there excitedly while waiting for it to begin.

A lot of people had come out for it, even though it wasn’t an official activity mandated for all to attend. It was purely an exciting event that many would like to witness.

Especially for the fact that it was between a newbie and a final-year student. It was an exciting match.

The authorities were all seated now—Leo was part of them—watching along with the students, who couldn’t stop discussing the upcoming match.

"Who do you think will win?" one asked.

"Is that even a question? It’s pretty obvious that Evans is going to win!"

Evans, the leader of the bully team. He was a popular figure all through the academy for bullying people in the name of training them or so. Most people, even those in his year, feared and avoided him.

He was huge and strong and respected. He was good in military training and all. And the authorities liked him as well, even though some knew he was a pure bully.

He wasn’t from a well-off family but had built his grounds enough to be respected. Even as a bully that tramples upon people.

"I know, right! Evans will surely win. I’ve already placed my bet on him!"

"Me too! I mean, what makes anyone think that the newbie guy will win?"

"I know, right? I mean, look at how little he is! He can’t even beat anyone, talk more of Evans! He’ll surely lose terribly!"

"What was he even thinking by accepting Evans’ challenge? He sure is dead meat now!"

"I think the newbie guy will win; I placed my bet on him," Helen said. She was standing there with Marcus.

They all stared at her.

"What rubbish are you even saying? You’re probably new and don’t know anything. He’ll lose terribly to Evans. He’ll be lucky if he just breaks his legs at least! And you’ll lose a lot of money from your bet too."

"These newbies know nothing!"

"Is that so?" Marcus smiled. "I guess we’ll have to see how it goes."

"Marcus, are you betting on him?" someone asked.

"Me? Well, it’s the newbie guy," Marcus said with a smile.

They were all shocked.

"Huh?! Even you! How can you be that careless?! You’ll lose a lot of money!"

"That’s stupid. How can you not even know the obvious? Even in my sleep I could tell that Evans would win!"

Marcus smiled. "Is that so? Well, I guess we’ll have to see."

All eyes were on the arena as the competition was about to begin.

The MC came onto the stage and welcomed them all to the contest. He explained the three stages to them: Archery, Horse Racing, and a Fight. And then explained the rules to them. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

After that, he went on to introduce the parties involved.

As soon as Evans was called onto the arena, everyone cheered loudly. The place was filled with his cheers and praises as he stepped out.

He flexed himself before them and then stood at a spot while they called out Eden.

No one cheered. At least, the place was dead silent as Eden stepped out too.

Only Helen and Marcus began cheering for him from their corner, making their voices louder to cheer him on.

But the whole audience looked in their direction, wondering who were the fools cheering alone.

After the cheering was done, Eden and Evans stood side by side. They were given some briefing by the coach, and then the competition began.

The first stage was the Archery stage.

Everything was set. The stands were placed and the two of them stood at a far distance. Their bows in their hands and the arrows at the side.

The audience stared in anticipation as the competition began.

Evans went first. He effortlessly picked up an arrow and shot. It hit the bullseye. He picked two more and they hit the same bullseye.

The audience cheered.

Eden picked up his arrow. He held it to his bow and positioned it... he shot, and it didn’t even hit the board at all.

The audience went silent and then laughed as it flew off.

"What was that? A joke or what?"

"He’s done for."

"What a hot mess."

Eden stared at the bow and picked up another arrow. He had tried using his own strength without magic at all. And he had messed up. He guessed he still hadn’t perfected the skills Leo taught him.

He tried again, shooting two more times. The first one hit 7 spots away from the bullseye and the third one flew off.

The crowd went silent and then laughed.

"What’s he even doing? Is this a joke?"

"He should just end it and accept his fate as a slave," another laughed.

"This is a mess indeed."

Helen stared at Marcus and then stared at the arena.

"Do you think he’s doing it on purpose or what?" she asked.

"It’s either he hasn’t used his magic yet or he’s just that terrible," Marcus said.

Evans smiled as he shot three times again.

The first time he shot with an arrow. It hit the bullseye. The second shot was a single arrow and it also hit the bullseye. They all cheered as he picked up two arrows for the third shot.

The two arrows hit the bullseye and the crowd exploded in cheers.

They all stared at Eden, who was up next. He was already losing this round, so Eden knew he had to do something.

He picked up a single arrow and held it in the bow. He positioned it towards the board and stared at it. All his attention fixed on the bullseye.

Everyone was quiet. Staring at him to know what he’d get this time around. Some already concluding he’d lose.

Eden figured he might not get the bullseye. He didn’t have time to waste or shots to waste too.

So he turned and picked up two more, holding three arrows in the bow while he positioned them towards the bullseye.

"Fuck skills," he muttered to himself. "Let’s do this the wizard way."
