Chapter 362: 362: Feel

"I wanted to leave here. I wanted to go far away from him. So he wouldn’t see me at all... so I told him to take me away if we got married." She explained as she stared at Eden. They all had their eyes on her as she spoke.

"I’m sorry for being selfish. I was only thinking about my safety, even though it meant taking away someone you like... I’m sorry."

There was silence. Then Eden shook his head. "It’s okay. You didn’t do anything. You were just trying to survive," he assured her.

Lysander sighed. "But that’s... nasty. I can’t believe he could do such nasty things to his wife and his daughter. I never thought the Emperor would be this devious."

"I guess people can be different from what we thought. They could be worse," Leo sighed.

All they could do was sigh and shake their heads at Cordelia’s story while sympathizing with her. Helen calmed her.

"So," Cordelia continued, "that’s why I ran away from there. But I’m worried about my mum. I don’t know what he’ll do to my mum..."

"Don’t worry. We’ll find your mother and save her," Helen assured.

"Thanks," Cordelia expressed gratefully.

"But how could he have gotten that terrible?" Lysander inquired. "How could he treat you guys like that? I don’t think a father could be that terrible to his family no matter what. Even if he has something to achieve..."

"That’s because he’s not their father," Eden said casually, arms folded while staring at the pancakes before him on the table.

Silence. Everyone stared at him. Cordelia wore a curious expression.

"What do you mean by that?" Lysander asked amidst the silence.

Eden hesitated, letting the silence and anticipation linger as they all watched him. And then, after a while, he said, "Because that’s not your father." He stared up at Cordelia’s curious expression.

"That’s an old friend of mine."

Silence and shock filled the air as they all stared at Eden in disbelief. They hadn’t seen that coming at all. It was new to them—something they’d struggle to understand.

"Huh?" Lysander asked. "What do you mean? You know the Emperor?"

Eden let out a soft smile. "No. Not the Emperor. The person in the Emperor’s body."

It took them a moment to let that shocking revelation sink in before Cordelia asked, "So you mean the person isn’t my father? That someone else took over his body?"

Eden nodded.

"So where is my father then?" she asked, curious.

"Don’t worry. He’s okay and alive. He’s inside the body too. But my old friend’s soul took over. Your dad will be back if the soul leaves," he explained.

Cordelia gasped softly. She was at least relieved that her father was okay and there was hope for everything to return to normal. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"But how do you know it’s the same person? If so, then why is he doing all this? And if this person is your old friend... can’t you just have him leave?" Lysander asked, curious.

Eden sighed as he stared into thin air, ready to explain. "First, we’re not exactly friends. It’s a long story. But long story short, we hate each other and he wants me dead."

At least they understood that dynamic.

"Years after our last fight—where I destroyed his physical body—I guess he took on a soul, took on a physical body again. The Emperor’s body was a better option. So he could collect spirit cores for himself," he explained. "And while doing that, he also set up a search party for me. That’s probably why the rule rewarding anyone who brings me in exists."

"Whoa..." Lysander thought. "That’s so strategic of him. And considering when this rule was made... he must have been in that body for quite a long time now."

Eden shook his head. "And that’s also why he was so bent on using you to get to Elvis. When he realized I was close to the Valencrest kingdom, he needed a way to get closer. You seemed like the more fluent option," he explained.

Cordelia only listened to the revelation in shock. She couldn’t find words.

He explained the surface-level reasons to them but didn’t delve into his past with Kyle. He didn’t think they needed that information.

"...So that’s why I can’t just go to him and talk. The last time we met, a few days ago, I confirmed it was him. We fought, and now he’s after us. So it’s clear he wants me dead," he sighed.

Silence settled as everyone absorbed the information.

"So..." Helen finally spoke up after a while. "He’s the one who did that to my parents and my people."

Eden slowly nodded. "I’m sorry for what he did."

"You don’t have to apologize for that bastard. We just need to take him down so I can get my revenge," Helen expressed.

"It won’t be easy, but we’ll have to try nonetheless," Eden explained. "Especially since he has a powerful backup plan." He went on to explain how the priest was on his side, and how the priest was also someone from his past he knew.

As Eden explained all this, they simply sat there, staring and listening. It was new to them, and they needed time to digest it.

Eden suddenly broke the silence with a smile. "Let’s not think too much about it and just enjoy the sweets I got." He picked up his spoon and dug in. "Let’s leave that for another moment."

He looked up at Cordelia. "So don’t worry about anything, and don’t feel bad either. It’s not your fault. I’ll make sure I help you bring everything back to normal. I promise. So just enjoy your stay here and rest well. Okay?"

Cordelia stared back at him with a warm smile. She felt at ease. She couldn’t remember the last time she did. But Eden’s warm words put her at peace.

She simply nodded as she said, "Thanks again. I really appreciate it."
