"Princess Danielle, Prince Yunn, the sudden prophecy changes things in the imperial castle. It seems like Emperor Kaiden is not ready to accept this change yet, so I implore you to talk some sense into him."

A priest spoke up suddenly and the others followed.

Now that the Emperor was no longer here to intimidate these people, their mouths continued to sprout nonsense in order to convince Prince Yunn to take their side. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

The only reason these people wanted to support the new prophecy was because of their own profit.

It was a well-known fact that Companion Shuu did not like to mingle with the nobles or court people. This made him impossible to manipulate and bring to their side.

But these two new candidates for the companion seat were different. Not only were they born in noble society, but they also knew when to enter an alliance.

Besides, they already had connections in high places, making their decision to back them up all the sweeter.

So naturally, everyone wanted Shuu out and one of these ladies to get selected. But the Emperor had made his decision.

Prince Yunn and Princess Danielle seemed to be their only choice now.

"I am afraid that I cannot go against my brother’s decision. Since he has decided to deny this prophecy, I will follow suit as well. You all should leave now."

Prince Yunn declared, but no one moved. They were not listening to his words and continued to look at Princess Danielle.

After all, it was a well-known fact that the real power behind the imperial family was Emperor Kaiden, followed by Prince Yunn’s fiancée. She was their only hope.

’But would she agree with us? She has never shown a different opinion compared to her fiancé...’

Everyone turned to look at her and the Princess finally opened her mouth.

"For now, I will have the servants prepare a separate wing for the two new companions. As much as I want to respect Emperor Kaiden’s decision, we cannot just ignore the prophecy and do what we want."

She spoke softly but firmly. Everyone looked at her with stunned expressions on their faces. But no one was more shocked than Prince Yunn.

He looked at Princess Danielle with betrayal in his eyes.

"Danielle... you..."

"Everyone, please excuse us. Lady Elysia, Lady Canarie, please follow after me. I will show you to your rooms."

She told the pair, and before Prince Yunn could say anything to her, she walked toward them and gestured for them to follow after her.

Prince Yunn, who was left behind, had an almost bitter look on his face. But he knew that there was nothing he could do about this situation either.

"Shuu, are you really not going to look at me? I am just as shocked as you are regarding what happened. I did not know this would happen either. Please, trust me..."

Emperor Kaiden followed Shuu at a steady pace. He reached out to touch Shuu a few times, but pulled back every time he got too close to him.

Shuu’s annoyed expression made him flinch and realize that touching his companion right now would not be the best idea.

He knew he needed to leave Shuu alone for now and that it would be the best decision for him. But he could not do that. He could not bring himself to leave Shuu alone, no matter what...

Sigh

"Did you know about all this beforehand? I mean, about the prophecy and the selection of new companions?"

Shuu asked, and the Emperor felt his heart skip a beat. Just the fact that Shuu was talking to him and not ignoring him made him feel like he was floating.

He almost missed the question Shuu asked him because of this, but he quickly gathered himself and replied back to him.

"I... did not know... alright, I did know about it. But I only found out 2–3 days ago. But I have no intention of participating in this prank the goddess is playing on her."

Emperor Kaiden assured Shuu without a hint of doubt on his face. His eyes looked at Shuu with sincerity and there was no hesitation in them.

And truthfully, it was not hard for Shuu to believe the Emperor.

Not once had Emperor Kaiden’s eyes left Shuu’s this whole time. Even when the ’new companions’ were introduced, the Emperor kept looking at Shuu and paid them no attention.

He only had eyes for Shuu.

But that was what terrified Shuu as well.

’What if these eyes turn away from me one day and turn toward someone else with the same intensity? Will I be able to take it? What will happen to me then...?’

It was a question that plagued Shuu a lot these days. He knew that he should pay no attention to it, but the ’what-if’ seemed close now.

"Look at me, Shuu. Do you truly believe I can cheat on you?"

Emperor Kaiden asked with a sincere look in his eyes and Shuu wanted to believe him. But he also recalled what happened to Lady Sera and how quickly the Emperor had forsaken her...

Surely, the same will not happen to him... Maybe I can run away before that...

"What are you thinking so hard about? Are you thinking of running away? Where would you even go? My mark is on your skin, so you will never be rid of me, no matter where you go."

Emperor Kaiden’s voice got darker and scarier each second. His breath hit Shuu’s neck and he arched his back. Teeth nibbled at his mark and Shuu felt his legs go weak.

A hallway was obviously not the place to be doing all this, but that did not seem to deter Emperor Kaiden from doing what he wanted anyway.

"W-We shouldn’t do this here... anyone can-"

"I don’t mind letting people see... no, maybe I do mind them seeing you. But I also want everyone to know that you are mine... so how about you allow me to fuck you in front of the court with a curtain in between to hide your body but not your form? It will be fun-"

"No way-! Don’t you dare..."
