"As you all can tell, today is a special day for many. So I would like to share something important with you all as well. Apart from the royal couple, there is another couple I would like to announce-my son, Alfred, and Lady Canarie."

Confusion filled the people at that declaration and they clapped out of their desire to not feel awkward.

But no matter how well they tried to hide it, the people could not figure out what was happening and why the Duke was telling them all this at such a time.

"Duke Inferno, now is not the time-"

Princess Danielle tried to interject but the Duke ignored her and continued to speak.

"Before you all question why I am telling you all this now, I would like to tell you the reason. As someone chosen by the goddess, Canarie has the right to choose the next emperor. That is the role given to her by the goddess and I have proof from the temple. As such, my son, whom she has chosen, now has the right to compete for the throne as well."

Duke Inferno’s words made everyone pause. It suddenly became clear why he was saying and doing all this.

Thousands of eyes turned from him to the royal couple, wondering what they would do next. Would they take this lying down? Or would they attack back?

But Emperor Kaiden looked like he did not care about anything the Duke had to say to him. He just yawned and buried his head into Shuu’s shoulder and snuggled harder into Shuu.

That irked the Duke, but he decided to use Emperor Kaiden’s lack of response to his advantage.

"See, even Emperor Kaiden knows that I am right. His silence speaks volumes for our situation. Now, would you all-"

"Shuu, I am bored. Can you entertain me? This annoying fly keeps buzzing around me, but I cannot kill him because I promised you not to. But can I go back on my promise, just this once?"

The emperor, once again, paid no attention to Duke Inferno and spoke to Shuu. People turned to look at Shuu with curiosity as well, wondering what he would do next.

This made Shuu feel embarrassed and he immediately looked aside.

"I...I don’t know. This is not something I can decide. You can ask Prince Yunn-"

Shuu tried to divert attention away from himself and toward someone else, so he named the first person he could think of.

Prince Yunn looked taken aback by this but he simply smiled at Shuu’s words.

All this time, Lady Canarie and her ’fiancé’, Alfred, were being ignored by everyone and that made her twitch. Her eyes looked scary and she gritted her teeth as she looked at the scene in front of her.

Her inner thoughts were a mess and the longer she went ignored, the more annoyed she looked.

’Why is this happening? Why is the emperor ignoring me like this? He is supposed to pay attention to me. I even got engaged, but he is still not looking at me-’

"Emperor Kaiden, do you truly not care if I marry someone else who is not you?"

Lady Canarie asked in a low voice. Her eyes looked at Shuu with an intensity that made him flinch, but they did not even linger on him for a full minute before they went back to look at Kaiden beside him.

Kaiden just scoffed at Lady Canarie and his indifference showed clearly on his face.

"Why would I care? I told you-I had someone who was close to me since the start and I refuse to look at anyone else, lady. You are the one who made up delusions inside your mind about everything."

Emperor Kaiden’s words caused something inside Lady Canarie to finally break. She felt the feeling rising inside her and she knew that there was no way to stop this surge, no matter how much she tried.

"I am your destiny. The goddess chose me and we fell in love-"

"Canarie, stop it. You are embarrassing yourself and me as well. The goddess did not choose you, neither did it choose that other girl. You were just being used by it all. These feelings you feel...they are fabricated as well."

Princess Danielle stepped forward to stop her cousin and expose the truth of the situation. But her cousin only scoffed as she looked at the princess.

"Ha, clearly you would say that. You are just jealous of me, aren’t you? Just because you did not get chosen, you are slandering me like this. But I am not going to fall for all this. I know what I am feeling and-"

"So do I."

Princess Danielle took off her glove to show the mark on her hand. It was the same mark Lady Canarie had and it made her stagger.

"Canarie-"

Alfred tried to catch her, but Lady Canarie shrugged off his touch and gave him a glare.

"Don’t touch me-!"

She suddenly looked unstable and she let out a strained laugh.

"You had the mark as well, so you knew what was happening? And you still allowed me to be as I wanted to? Tell me, was it fun to fool me and my feelings? Was it fun mocking me like this?"

Lady Canarie asked and Princess Danielle sighed.

"This is your problem, Canarie. We all kept telling you to pull yourself together, but you never did. Now, you will have to deal with the consequences."

"Hahaha...what a load of bullcrap. I won’t agree to this fate...never. If I cannot have him...then I will make sure no one can have the emperor either-"

Lady Canarie suddenly headed toward Emperor Kaiden. She pulled her hidden dagger out before anyone could move...

No, something was preventing everyone from taking action. And that force was strong enough to even stop Emperor Kaiden for a moment.

’What is going on-?’

Kaiden wondered but he had no time to ponder upon this mystery when Lady Canarie immediately appeared in front of him and her dagger came down.

"If I cannot have you, then no one can-"
