Black Online-Chapter 122: Late-Night Call
Scribble~ Scribble~
The sun was already down, and since he forgot to turn on the light switch, it had also become quite dark in the room.
Fang Raon, with the help of the light coming from the computer screen, was writing in his notebook.
He’d been watching different kinds of videos for the last two hours and had taken notes about what he should do.
’I think I’ve a decent understanding about what I should maybe do.’
Fang Raon thought, put the notebook on the drawer, and then stretched his arms above his head.
He then finally noticed that it was quite late and walked over to the light switch and flicked it on.
’I should also probably start heading to sleep. I want to wake up earlier tomorrow and head straight to the game.’
Fang Raon thought.
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!
As soon as he was about to lie down on his bed, his phone started vibrating as he was receiving a phone call.
’...Who?’
Fang Raon took his phone from the desk and checked the number.
When he saw the name calling him, his expression softened, and he was also quite surprised.
’I didn’t think that she would already call me today! I am not complaining, though...’
He answered the call, pressed it against his ear, and hoped that his heartbeat wasn’t loud enough for the caller to hear.
"Chaewon?"
He said.
"You answered~ I was wondering whether you might be inside the game, and you wouldn’t be able to see my call."
Chaewon said with a giggle from the other side of the phone.
"No, I didn’t play today... Had some stuff to do. I didn’t expect you to already call me today."
"I just wanted to ask... When’s a good time for me to call you? I know you’ll be most of the day inside Black Online."
Chaewon asked curiously.
"...Around nine in the night, if that works for you?"
"I’ll call you at 9:30. I should be at home by then from work, so you better answer me, hmph!"
"That sounds good."
Fang Raon said with a smile, and he then lay down on the bed and rested his head against the pillow.
They didn’t speak and were just listening to each other’s breathing.
"Can we FaceTime?"
Chaewon asked.
"...FaceTime? Sure, but why?"
Fang Raon asked curiously.
"...I want to see your face, of course, you silly."
Fang Raon shrugged his shoulders, put the call on speaker, and then activated FaceTime with her.
In that moment, he was able to see Chaewon lying on her soft-looking bed. Her hazel-brown hair was spread out across her pillow, and she looked like an angelic sleeping beauty.
"Your eyes are so blue..."
Chaewon said.
"Really?"
Fang Raon said with a raised eyebrow.
"Giggle~ You got your vision back, and you haven’t even looked at yourself in the mirror?"
Chaewon asked with a laugh.
"I did look at myself in the mirror, but I guess I forgot to check the color of my eyes... How blue are they?" 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Fang Raon asked.
"Really blue. I think that color is aqua? It’s like I am looking at the sky on a clear day. It’s really beautiful!"
Chaewon said passionately.
"Oh... That made me remember something from my past."
Fang Raon said with a nostalgic expression.
"What is it?"
Chaewon asked curiously.
"When I first lost my vision, I always had my eyes closed since I couldn’t see anything anyways, but my sister, Anna, told me to keep my eyes open.
"Something about my eyes looking too good to keep them hidden or something like that. I can’t recall the exact words.
"So I just learned to keep my eyes open even without having any vision."
Fang Raon said.
"...Have you told your sister that you’ve been discharged just yet?"
Chaewon asked.
"No, and I have no intention of doing so. I was kicked out of the Fang Village because my father believed that my ’disease’ might be contagious.
"I thought it was a stupid as hell of a reason since I had already stayed there nine years without anyone else getting it.
"When my symptoms kept getting worse, and I was about to lose the ability to walk, he decided to kick me out.
"Now that I am healthy again..."
Fang Raon trailed at the end.
"You’re scared that they might want you to go back there?"
Chaewon asked.
"If they want to, they can definitely force me to go back there even if I don’t want to. Thus, I’d like to keep this as a secret."
Fang Raon said.
"Mmh, you’re fine, I think. I know that the head nurse was planning to call your sister since she is your ’guardian,’ apparently, but don’t worry, I deleted her phone number from the list of contacts."
Chaewon said with a proud smile.
"...You did?"
Fang Raon said in surprise.
"Yup, I had a hunch that you didn’t want her to be informed. They always kept her updated regarding your condition since she is your guardian, so last night, I removed her phone number."
"I appreciate that... But wouldn’t you lose your job if they find out? That is a very risky thing to do..."
Fang Raon said.
He really appreciated it and didn’t really know why Chaewon would go THAT far for him, but it made him feel sweet inside.
"I made sure to be sneaky."
Chaewon said with a smile.
"...Mhm, you could be a really good Assassin in Black Online."
Fang Raon said jokingly with a smile on his face.
In that moment, Chaewon looked elsewhere as she heard the shout from her mother, and she then turned back to look at the camera.
"It looks like it’s my turn to head off to the showers. I’ll call you tomorrow again, alright?"
"Alright, good night."
Fang Raon said.
"Good night!"
Chaewon approached the camera, pressed her soft pink lips to the screen and blew a kiss, and then ended the call.
"..."
Fang Raon froze with his eyes wide open, and he then slowly closed the phone and put it aside and just stared at the ugly ceiling in silence.
"...Hmm."
