Chapter 146: Devil With Speed

’It feels like he is a completely different person now—no more the lighthearted jokester, but an actual Assassin.’

Fang Raon thought.

He knew that Assassins were an extremely good class in one-on-one combat, but he wasn’t all that worried.

He also believed in his own skill.

In that moment, Lock leaned forward, like he was about to kiss the ground, but then—he kicked off into a sprint!

Fast! Very fast!

"?!"

Fang Raon’s eyes even widened in shock because in just one quick burst, Lock was already within the attacking range.

There wasn’t even any time for him to think!

The dagger came. Fang Raon tried parrying it. It was too fast for it to be parried, and the dagger’s blade dug into his shoulder.

The dagger’s blade was sharp. It cut straight through. Flesh and bone alike. The arm got cut clean off.

Thud~

With a bloody thud, the arm dropped to the ground—it was still holding the shield—the hand still tightly clutching the handle.

’This is how he managed to destroy his opponents so quickly... By overwhelming them with this insane speed.’

Fang Raon thought with a pale face.

If his Speed Attribute was around 10, Lock’s would be 150 without a doubt. It was ridiculous how fast he was.

’Hard Slash!’

Fang Raon mimicked the slashing motions of the "Hard Slash" skill, and his sword came crashing down on Lock.

Swoosh!

The dagger in Lock’s hand flashed. The wrist of Fang Raon’s sword-wielding hand was cut.

"Ah..."

In front of his eyes, he saw his sword flying past his eyes—the hand still grabbing the hilt—and it also fell to the ground.

Gush~ Gush~

With two bloody stumps, blood gushed out—from the shoulder and the wrist—it was a shocking sight.

Fang Raon only felt numbness.

There was a feeling that he could still move his fingers, but nothing moved, as if he still had some phantom hand and arm attached to his body.

’I...’

Before he could think of anything.

Lock slashed the dagger across his chest—from shoulder all the way to the opposite hip—and the blood shed.

He slashed again. Again. Again. Again. And Again.

Fang Raon fell backwards and dropped to the sea—he sank straight down—and he saw as the platform got further away.

In that moment, the darkness took over his vision—almost like he had turned blind again—and his corpse started sinking.

This day.

In the Black Online Tournament, hosted by the Smart Guy’s Gaming Land, Fang Raon got completely destroyed in the semifinals.

...

Swoosh!

Fang Raon fell out of the pod, and he collapsed onto the ground with a shocked look.

And he immediately looked over his right hand and the left arm—they were still attached to his body.

’I... lost.’

He thought.

It wasn’t just a loss. It was so one-sided. There was nothing that he could’ve done against Lock.

At that moment, the second Virtual Reality Pod opened, and Lock stepped out with a smile on his face.

"Good match, aye? Don’t feel disheartened. You’ll get better with practice. There are not many people in the world who can defeat me.

"You aren’t the only one, so don’t worry~ Good luck in the bronze match."

Lock patted his shoulder and then walked out of the room—he was whistling a tune—as if he had gone back to his lighthearted persona.

"..."

Fang Raon looked at the ground, and then he slammed his fist onto the ground and stood up with a fierce expression on his face.

He walked out of the room, sat down on one of the empty chairs, and crossed his arms over his chest.

"...I didn’t think that even he would be defeated without being able to do anything."

The young woman whispered over the desk to her co-worker, the firm-sounding man.

"This tournament was intended for amateur players—which is why the low prize money—but I didn’t think in my wildest dreams that Lock Manchester would come to compete in such a small tourney."

The man said with a serious look on his face.

"Who is he?"

The young woman asked.

She knew that he must be an amazing player since her co-worker showed very big surprise when he walked into the store and registered for the tournament.

It was the first time she had seen him show so much emotion.

"Only the strongest Assassin in all of Black Online. The newest member of Dead Redemption, Lock Manchester, the Devil With Speed."

The man said with a serious look.

The young woman’s eyes shook in shock, and she looked at Lock Manchester as if he were some kind of boogeyman.

She wasn’t playing Black Online all that much, but even she knew about him and about the reputation of Dead Redemption.

The members of the Dead Redemption were more famous than most A-list celebrities.

It was already shocking enough to find out that one of the members of Dead Redemption lived in the Megaworld Apartment, but even more shocking that someone like him competed in this small tournament! 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Lock didn’t need money. Dead Redemption members made millions every week. This was just chump change.

’Why did he decide to come to participate? Did he expect to get some challenge? Nah, that can’t be. It is just a small amateur tournament, and he must’ve known that.’

The young woman thought.

In that moment, the first room’s door opened, and one of the women stepped out with a smile—the other one looked dejected.

The one that was smiling was Anselma Rocha—after a grueling fight with Lourdes, she finally came out as victorious.

"Who am I going against?"

Lourdes sat down and asked.

She was looking between Lock and Fang Raon—it soon dawned on her who won—since only one of them was smiling.

She turned to Fang Raon and nodded.

"Let’s have a good match."

"Mmh."

Fang Raon nodded, but honestly, he couldn’t really care about the incoming match, as he only remembered the crushing defeat.

’Will she do any better?’

He wondered as he looked at Anselma Rocha, who was definitely a good player, but was she good enough to defeat Lock?

"The bronze match and the gold match will be held simultaneously. So go ahead, and enter your rooms."

The man said.
