Chapter 132: Save

Turning off the light was a genius move.

Oliver smiled, gripping the drone that floated beside him.

Fifty meters separated him from Lin Yue. The flood dragon, however, was a mere dozen meters in front of her.

He had no time to waste.

Oliver immediately hurled the drone at Lin Yue. His arms glowed golden, and his body recoiled as he imbued the drone with enough force to accelerate it to supersonic speed.

The drone’s propellers creaked and shattered under the sudden acceleration, scattering into pieces. Yet, the body of the drone flew straight towards Lin Yue.

Due to the elders’ interference, the dragon had significantly slowed. Thus, before its giant maw could snap down on her, the drone struck Lin Yue, throwing her body sideways. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

With the abrupt disappearance of light, the dragon didn’t have enough time to react to the change. When Lin Yue’s body was knocked away, the dragon missed its target and flew forward a hundred meters before finally stopping.

"RAWRRR!"

The dragon roared in anger.

It had paid a heavy price in its last attack, only to fail in killing its enemy.

The dragon’s eyes glowed red as its rage reached a new peak.

Meanwhile, Lin Yue regained clarity. The blurry vision and the thought of immediate death vanished from her mind, replaced by a sharp pain in her abdomen.

Something had struck her when the lights went out.

It was fast and incredibly hard.

The pain was immense; she felt as though she had been stabbed.

She turned and stabilized herself before looking towards the glowing golden figure across the way. The object that struck her had come from that direction.

The person there had thrown it to save her. If they hadn’t interfered, she would have lost her life.

Lin Yue stared at the figure with a mix of curiosity and doubt.

Meanwhile, Oliver’s golden body became the most prominent target in the area. In the darkness of the night, the mana covering his body took the shape of armor and glowed brightly.

He appeared as a being of light, ethereal and heroic.

However, this also caused the flood dragon to turn its gaze upon him. While the elders and Lin Yue disappeared into the darkness, he became the dragon’s sole target.

’This armor is back again. It never helps when I’m in danger, but the moment I thought of using it to save someone, it appeared on its own,’ Oliver mused.

’The damned thing is crazy.’

Oliver silently complained, looking at the flood dragon.

’Well, I saved her. Now, who’s going to save me?’

He had no plan whatsoever.

Although the dragon was injured and barely standing, Oliver knew he wouldn’t be able to break its defense and kill it.

’Should I buy some time for the others to reorganize themselves?’

Oliver glanced in the direction of the elders and Lin Yue.

Lin Yue seemed to have recently reached the threshold of becoming an A-ranker. She lacked the experience and skills to truly assist him, and furthermore, she didn’t even know how to properly use her ability.

So, Oliver didn’t seek her help.

The only one he could realistically expect assistance from was the elder who could manipulate stone. He had the highest defense and was thus the least injured.

"Root, turn on the lights," Oliver said into his earpiece.

The bright light came on abruptly, catching everyone by surprise.

Oliver used this chance to move towards the flood dragon. His body crouched, muscles compressed, as he used mana to power his jump.

The branch he stood on disintegrated as he leapt forward.

The flood dragon’s eyes took a few seconds to recalibrate. By the time it blinked twice, Oliver’s golden figure was already near it.

He seemed to have traveled more than 100 meters in a single second.

"Root, don’t forget your promise," he said, punching the dragon’s snout.

Already injured, the dragon’s face was covered in thick gashes. His fist struck directly into one of those wounds, sending a wave of searing pain through the dragon’s body.

A creature’s snout is highly sensitive due to its high nerve density, and the same was true for the dragon.

It let out a blood-curdling scream and wrenched its head away. At the same time, its giant body attempted to crash into Oliver.

Oliver generated golden tentacles from his armor and pushed against the dragon’s body, sending himself flying back slowly, thereby dispersing the force.

"Switch off the light," he commanded.

Immediately, Root extinguished the light and repositioned the boat to precisely cover the area where the dragon and Oliver were located.

Oliver smiled and used the tentacles to latch onto the dragon’s tail, which was moving away.

"The light trick is working, so let’s keep using it until it stops," Oliver told Root.

"Okay."

"You can turn the lights on and off randomly. You don’t have to worry about me," he added.

"Okay, boss."

Oliver trusted Root, knowing the kid could execute his orders. His focus returned to the dragon.

The tentacle latched onto the tail and felt a tug as he was pulled closer to it.

’Close combat really isn’t my strong suit. I don’t have the power to unleash incredible skills with high attack power. But with the golden armor, I can endure a lot. Maybe there’s hope.’

Oliver could heal his injuries quickly. As long as an injury didn’t kill or debilitate him, he could continue to fight like a machine. After all, his strong suit was his limitless endurance.

He wore his usual smirk and pulled himself closer to the dragon. Then, he released a thin layer of blood filled with mana. To see in the darkness, he was going to use it as a marker, just like when he battled the demonic monkey in the sewers.

The dragon sensed something grabbing its tail and swung its head around, turning to look behind itself. Noticing the glowing golden body, it furiously roared and lifted its tail towards its head, attempting to bite him.

Oliver patiently waited for the tail to reach its head.

Just as he saw the giant head enlarging before him, the light was switched on. And the boat was positioned to focus the light directly onto the dragon’s eyes.

Without even needing to say anything, Root did what Oliver wanted.

Oliver grinned and leaped up.

The dragon’s eyes, blinded by the light, failed to perceive Oliver’s movement. Before it could react, something sharp pierced into one of its eyes.

Reflexively, the dragon jerked its head up, throwing away the person who had attacked it. Fortunately, it had condensed mana into its eyes before the attack, so the blow failed to damage them. Only a skin-deep red line appeared on the dragon’s eye.

’That’s a bummer,’ Oliver thought, his body flying away.

Still, he wasn’t disappointed. By attacking the eye, he realized that the dragon’s mana reserve was running low. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have even left a scratch on the dragon’s bulging eyes.

"The dragon always protects its core organs and critical spots with mana. The fact that there’s less mana in its eyes means it’s running low," Oliver said aloud. "Ask the lady and her elders to prepare if they wish to kill it."

Then he waited for a second.

"If they fail, they will lose the chance to kill it. Any second now, it will regain its sanity and try to escape," Oliver added.

"Okay, boss. I will relay the information."

Another drone ascended from the boat and flew towards Lin Yue and the elders. While Oliver was distracting the dragon, she was helping the elders. One of them, the close-range fighter who had first attacked the drone, was seriously injured. The rest were in similarly poor condition.

Lin Yue carefully helped the seriously injured elder sit up and fed him a pill. It was a condensed herbal medicine that could prevent injuries from worsening. The other elders also took their own medicine and gazed at the sky.

Through the thick treeline, they could sense the battle unfolding above. The flickering lights and golden figure were easy for them to track. However, the dragon, locked in close combat with the person, couldn’t do the same.

The person wearing the golden armor wasn’t skilled in close combat. His defense was passable, but his attacks were weak. Yet, he was using golden tentacles sprouting from his body to position himself in the dragon’s blind spots, and his evasive maneuvers were artistically beautiful. This allowed him to run circles around the creature, which was much stronger than he was.

"Who is he?" the stone manipulator asked.

"Guild leader of the Nemesis Guild. The one and only bare minimum hero, Oliver Thorne," a drone descending from the sky replied.

"Bare Minimum?" The elder was confused. "Wasn’t he the Supreme Hero of the Sea?"

The drone stayed silent for a while. It avoided the question and then stated, "The dragon is about to flee. The boss asked you to participate in the battle if you want to catch it. Do you want to catch it?"

Lin Yue stepped forward. "Yes," she replied, hope rekindling in her heart.

Then she jumped onto a tree and climbed towards the sky. One of the elders, the stone manipulator, followed her up after glancing at the others. The others nodded.

They all knew who could participate in the battle and who couldn’t.

The drone Root controlled flew up with them.
