Blood Nemesis-Chapter 230: Incompatible

Day one of hiding within a remote corner of the red light district, Oliver felt his body slowly change.

For some reason, he could feel everything happening inside his body with great clarity. It felt to him as if his senses expanded.

However, while his senses improved, his physical fitness was going into a downward trend. Oliver could notice the decrease in his weight from the previous day.

He was losing both muscle and bone density with each passing day.

From what he could understand, it was as if he were ageing rapidly.

'Well, hair loss, weight loss and low energy all correlate to senescence.'

This thought once again brought Oliver in touch with mortality.

He used to consider himself an immortal being. So, the sudden change in his body and rapid ageing scared him a little.

Still, Oliver decided to wait for a few days before concluding on any one cause. At the same time, he resumed his meditation training to reach his mindscape quickly.

If there was one person who could give him an answer to his odd situation, it might be the dragon, he thought.

Like that, another day passed by.

On the morning of the third day, Oliver stood in front of the mirror and looked directly at his body. The physique he built through hard work and training was gone, replaced by a sickly pale body. He could even see the shoulder blades and ribs poking out.

'Fuck.' He cursed aloud.

But even the curse came out a little weak as he wheezed and coughed.

'Am I really dying? No way…' Oliver wondered, startled. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

To him, death was not something to look forward to. His eyes squinted as a frown appeared on his face just thinking about the consequences of his death.

All the hard work.

Everything he had done to secure the future of his family and friends would come undone.

Although he had backup plans, information about the future safely stored somewhere only Root can access, it might not be enough to save the world from the demon.

After all, there was no shortage of prophets and seers in this world. And yet they failed once because of the cunning demons. The information he had prepared would be meaningless without someone willing to risk everything to fight against them.

For now, Root or any of his cohort was not ready to take on that heavy responsibility. So, Oliver had to live.

He had to find a way to cure his peculiar affliction.

On the fourth day, Oliver decided to consult a doctor. A doctor who treats the black market employees and questionable patients.

The meditation didn't help him much, so there was no other option left but to visit the doctor.

So, with Grizzly's help, Oliver went to an isolated building and met the doctor. This was his first doctor visit after gaining the blood regeneration ability.

Cautiously, he straightened his hunched back and waited for the body scan and blood test results to come out.

As expected, the result was anything but promising.

The doctor explained to Oliver that his cells were undergoing a continuous cycle of random dying and healing.

Oliver could understand why it was healing because his regeneration ability was kicking in to keep him alive. But why were the cells dying in the first place? There was no answer to that question.

So, the doctor decided to do further tests. A test which analysed tissues from each part of his body, including the spine, muscles, neurons, stomach wall and everything in between. And the result this time was slightly different.

Certain regions of his body were dying at a faster rate than the rest. And some other cells were also surviving without any problem.

The middle-aged doctor was amused to see the result.

Upon studying it closely, he made another shocking discovery.

Oliver's regeneration ability was creating incompatible cells, which spread throughout the body, causing widespread mayhem.

'So, you are saying that the regenerated cells are incompatible with the surviving cells, creating a kind of disharmony. So, it causes my body to overreact in unexpected ways. Simply put, I have an allergy to myself…sigh…'

Oliver sighed deeply before taking in a deep breath. What the doctor said makes some sense.

After all, Oliver could guess what the reason for the incompatibility was.

'Evolved cells that can use mana vs cells that can't. Both of them are fighting inside my body.'

When battling the blood beetle, Oliver had tried his best to heal and evolve his cells to use mana rapidly. It could be the reason for the incompatibility.

In his past life, the cells evolved at a much slower rate. At the same time, the healing solution also played a crucial role.

But this time, it was Oliver's own regenerative ability that came into play. Also, the evolution of the cells was rapid.

Therefore, the difference in conditions could have caused the incompatibility issue.

'That must be it.' Oliver nodded after thinking for a while.

'The feeling of senses rapidly improving was because of the mana.'

'The feeling of weakness was because of the allergic reaction.'

'It does indeed make sense….All of it.'

'So, what should I do now?' Oliver wondered.

For some reason, the regeneration ability was creating both evolved and non-evolved cells in tandem. He had to find a way to regenerate only the ones that can use mana.

After all, he had spent months trying to evolve his cells. So, he can't possibly give up on that.

The doctor heard his worries and suggested that he find a way to stop his regeneration ability. At the same time, he procured some illegal mana suppression drug, giving it to Oliver.

The suppression of regeneration was vital because it worked by sampling the cell composition and replacing injured cells. Once it stops, either one of the cells will emerge as the winner.

However, it would result in Oliver's death. So, they had to suppress the mana at the same time to prevent the cells from attacking each other. This would technically prevent his condition from worsening. Once slowed down, his body might just adapt on its own.

The doctor had greater than zero confidence in what he just said. And it was enough for Oliver.

After all, the revive ability still existed. Although using it meant a complete reset of the evolved cells or reverting to his current condition, he was sure he wouldn't die easily.
