Blood Queen Reborn-Chapter 9: Beast Weapons Class
Quinn and Peter walked out of their dorm room, ready to head to the cafeteria, when Quinn got another notification that caused him to jump slightly.
[Erin is being hit by direct sunlight. All stats will be halved]
{Erin} Why is your dumb book making me weak to the sun?!
[New quest: stay out of direct sunlight for 8 hours]
{Erin} Great. So now it gives me this quest.
{Erin} If I had gotten this quest last night, I could’ve gotten another 5 exp.
{Erin} Not that it matters, it’s such a small amount. How am I meant to level up?
{Quinn} This seems really strange for an ability book.
{Erin} Obviously. Ability books aren’t even meant to remove abilities.
[Erin is no longer being hit by direct sunlight. All stats will return to normal]
{Erin} Finally, I can think straight.
Quinn really needed to figure out a way to mute the messages.
"Did you say something?" Peter asked.
"No—it’s nothing," Quinn quickly replied back.
The two arrived at the cafeteria, and got in line While Quinn was waiting, he saw someone with a level 5 watch walk closer to the front, and cut in line. The students around this kid looked clearly uncomfortable, but they didn’t want to cause any trouble.
He almost didn’t notice it happening because of how often it occurred. Under normal circumstances, Quinn would’ve called them out, but he just joined the line, and was nowhere close enough to get their attention.
’It’s like they think they’re better than us just because no one wants to stop them,’ Quinn bitterly thought.
While the line was trudging along, Quinn decided to look more at the system screen.
There was the shop tab that he still had yet to unlock, along with an empty inventory, and the messaging tab. When looking through the messaging tab, there were settings to not have the messages read out to him, but he couldn’t seem to disable the "ping" notification sound. He didn’t want to test out the empty inventory just yet as he was sure Peter would notice if something in Quinn’s hand just disappeared.
{Quinn} There’s a button to turn off the messages being read out loud.
{Quinn} Just check the settings.
Erin opened her side of the system, searching for whatever the settings might be.
{Erin} Where is the Settings button?
{Quinn} Top left, there’s a gear symbol, if you focus on that there are some check marks
[Messaging settings]
[Have messages read out loud]
[Yes] [No]
{Erin} Found it.
{Erin} Send something.
{Quinn} Is this the only time you’ll want me to speak to you?
{Erin} Finally, I won’t have your voice constantly play in my head.
Quinn shook his head, and ordered his food from the cafeteria worker. He wondered where Erin was at in the cafeteria, but with how many students there were, and how large the cafeteria was, it was unlikely that he’d spot her amidst the crowd.
Actually, now that he thought of it, he realized that he hadn’t seen Fex in the cafeteria during the first week they had all gone to this school together.
"Hey Quinn, I’m kinda struggling with learning the earth ability," Peter brought up, "And I noticed that you haven’t learned an ability just yet... I was just thinking..."
"What was it you were thinking?" Quinn asked.
"Well... It might help if we both learned the earth ability together...?"
Quinn didn’t respond right away, as he was thinking about it.
When he had arrived at the military school, he brought his family ability book with him, and rejected the military’s offer thinking he would be the one to open it. Even though he had struggled to open it until last night, he was hoping to not have to rely on the military to grow stronger.
One of the things Quinn had done a while ago was do research on the military’s free earth books. What he had found was that they would hoard all the higher leveled earth ability books, making it so that you had to work for the military in order to even get an ability stronger than a level 4. However, his ability book went to Erin, and now the two were linked together. It’d be a lie to say that Quinn hadn’t considered taking the military’s free ability book offer, but as soon as he learned the earth ability, he wouldn’t be able to learn another one.
"I’ll have to think about that," Quinn eventually responded.
That morning, he and Peter went to their morning class, where they sat in the back with Fex. Soon, Layla and Erin joined, sitting closer to the front.
Their homeroom teacher, Del, didn’t really have anything interesting to say, making Quinn impatiently tap his foot, waiting for the class to end.
"By the way, have you guys all picked out the combat classes you want to stick with for the rest of the year?" Del mentioned,, "Remember, today is the last day to change your mind."
The students began chattering among themselves about what classes they chose.
"I chose the elemental class," a student said, looking proud of himself.
"My ability is all about transforming, so I kinda didn’t really have a choice."
"I decided to go with the forging class. I know it’s not really fighting, but I’ve always been interested in beast-weapons."
Del’s smile became very tense as he had to clear his throat loudly to get everyone’s attention.
"Just because I mentioned your combat classes, doesn’t mean you can start talking in class," Del spoke through gritted teeth.
Everyone soon became quiet, and the rest of the morning’s class passed without an issue.
Peter and Quinn had actually chosen different classes to go to. Because Peter had a very elemental ability, he decided to head to the elemental class. Since Quinn did not have an ability, his next best option was to practice his fighting skills as it was his only way to go up against any ability users that thought of him as a weak target.
After the morning class was done, Quinn went to his combat class, where he had fallen in love with the art of fighting. Beast Weapons class.
The class was a large single room, one with a ceiling that almost went up to two stories, and looked like an ancient dojo. On the walls were windows that allowed for the sun to light up the room, and it also had an elevated area in the shape of a circle near the back of the room. Standing on this elevated area was their teacher.
This teacher was named Leo Suiyan, a bald-headed man who wore leather armor. He always had a long katana blade at his waist with a jagged rough blade. It was almost like it had been forged from an alien animal, known as a beast. Whenever class started, he would close his eyes and wait for everyone to enter.
As everyone entered the class, Quinn saw Erin enter the room. The two made eye contact for a few seconds before she moved over to her part of the class, a quiet corner.
This had unfortunately gotten the attention of a nearby kid.
"Holy shit, you stared at the ice queen; and she didn’t freeze you? I wish she could’ve done that to me!"
Quinn just nervously laughed and didn’t respond to the student, hoping to ignore him.
Aside from Erin, there were others in the class that Quinn also knew. The first being Fex, one of his roommates, and the second being Layla.
Once Leo heard that everyone had entered, his eyes opened wide, revealing two milky-white eyes.
"Are we sure he can actually fight?" a student whispered to another next to him.
"If you knew who that is, then you would not be so disrespectful to our teacher;" Erin butted in, overhearing the student. "Perhaps if I told you his war name, then you would know. That man is General Leo, or known as the Blind Swordsman."
"Wait, he’s here at THIS school?" the student replied.
He had only transferred to the beast weapons class today unlike the others; so this was news to him. The blind swordsman was a well known name as he was a great hero during the first Dalki War.
With that, the boy was enraptured by Leo, and listened very intently.
"For those of you who are just now joining the class, my name is Leo," he said before pulling out his katana blade and pointing it toward the class, "We’ll continue to practice with our chosen weapons. Remember, you cannot always rely on your ability, as when you run out of MC in the heat of battle, the only thing you can rely on is your own skills. Now go and choose one from the walls around you."
