Chapter 231: Infinite Food Glitch

Jimmy had four buttons in front of him, that to his surprise, the syringe had flashed in front of him after it transformed.

The control panel was rather simple. It was small, for one thing, and the buttons were squeezed together in a square. Two at the top, and two at the bottom.

Pressing any button whatsoever was highly experimental, he expected everything to happen at random, but that wasn’t enough to make him nervous. He was used to experimenting, and today, when he needed a miracle the most, when he was trying to avoid cloning himself, there was near to nothing that could intimidate him!

He was willing to try every possible alternative to cloning himself, likewise, he went ahead and pressed the first button. He was hoping that the Compy clone wasn’t going to die during the short experiments that were to follow, but if it did die, he wouldn’t quite be bothered by it. He didn’t want it to die, but sometimes lab rats had bad luck.

If not anything else, the jacked up Compy was a decent food source, full of meat and muscle.

"I guess I never considered the cloning room as an infinite food glitch?" He muttered, "Maybe it didn’t cross my mind, cause it’s inhumane to clone a creature just to kill it afterwards? Hmm... I guess I’ll consider it in the future, assuming we don’t get fucking annihilated tonight! Cloning our food has got to be easier than hunting for it."

Anyway, once he pressed the first button on the line, he gave the syringe, and the Compy clone some time to do whatever it was the two of them were supposed to do.

He didn’t rush it, he didn’t spam-press the button several times, as he knew how unproductive that could be. He was dealing with an advanced control panel, after all, advanced technology, and so he didn’t want to risk breaking a tool that he hadn’t yet figured out.

Jimmy waited for two minutes, and that was when he noticed that something about the Compy clone was changing.

At first the clone was whimpering, as coherently as a dinosaur could whimper, and he immediately assumed that it was in pain! He didn’t want to interrupt the process, but he couldn’t bear the thought of a simple, nearly mindless creature suffering because of his experiments, so he did in fact intervene shortly after.

"I didn’t think the fucker suffering would mess me up more than him dying..." He grunted. "Yeah... I don’t have the guts to clone farm."

He tapped into its heartbeat, then its brain, and he intended to use every bit of mana he had to rid the clone of pain. All ten-percent of it. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

However, as he analyzed the clone’s brain, he noticed that the lobes in its brain that were supposed to interpret pain, were not quite active. They were neutral, and he was happy that he picked up on that fact in time, otherwise he would’ve wasted his mana trying to get rid of pain that did not exist.

"Are you nervous, big boy... or girl? I don’t know what gender you are, it’s hard to tell." He said, and then he stroked the clone’s back, "Don’t worry, it doesn’t look like the syringe will cause you any pain."

Jimmy kept stroking the Compy clone. He wanted to help it feel comfortable, but after another half a minute, he began to understand why the clone was nervous, or scared. It was shrinking!

The shrinking process was rather slow, and from the looks of it, it may take another five minutes until the process was over, but otherwise it was impossible not to notice that the clone was shrinking, because even though the process seemed slow, the clone was on the roadway to losing half of its size! Mass, muscle, bone seize, and everything else! The clone kept shrinking!

"Relax..." He lowered his voice, and even gained the courage to get his head close to the clone’s. "It’s almost over."

The Compy clones were designed to protect Jimmy, and everything he cared for even if their lives depended on it, but in its current condition, it was still a huge risk to stand so close to it, nevertheless put his head within its biting range! The clone was loyal, but since it was nervous, it could bite him at random, and any bite would cause him great damage, no matter what size the Compy was at that time.

Jimmy didn’t care, he comforted the clone throughout the process, intimately, as if he was guiding a mother who was halfway through giving birth. Some might say that he cared too much, but he wouldn’t want it any other way. Although a clone, this poor creature was as real as any other dinosaur was.

Anyway, once the shrinking process was over, the clone finally relaxed, and so Jimmy had the chance to make an assessment.

"Takes an awfully long time," He sighed, "The cloning room was never this slow. It shrank, and buffed clones up almost in a snap."

He then took a few steps back, observed the clone further, and added, "He did shrink a lot, though. He’s almost as small as any other Compy, damn it, he’s a nudge over two feet tall."

Jimmy was albeit spooked by how a simple syringe could undo close to two ’size buffs’ that the cloning room implemented on this particular clone. It didn’t seem natural, and of course, it wasn’t natural.

The intensity that the syringe inflicted was more aggressive, at least in comparison to whatever he could get in the cloning room.

"At this point, if I shrink him again, he might just disappear." He added, "But this can work out really well... if the second button jerks their size up, that is. I can take the syringe with me, and buff up every clone out there. Assuming they don’t explode after two size buffs, we might just have a chance to wipe out half of those damned, hairy bastards."

Jimmy got excited the more he thought about the matter, and likewise, he went ahead and pressed the second button on the control panel without much hesitation. He didn’t want to put the Compy clone through any discomfort, but if the panel worked like he wanted it to, then he just found himself a significant advantage over the enemy, regardless of the fact that he didn’t have a lot of Compy clones to tamper with!
